participate in the testing towards 1.1.3, of course. Due to our new =
nightly builds (http://www.springframework.org/downloads/nightly/), you =
should be able to grab current snapshots easily. Test everything on all =
JDKs and J2EE servers in your vicinity :-)

Devs,

you, in particular the ones with fix version 1.1.3. I've posted specific =
comments on some of them.

I'd like to go straight for a 1.1.3 release by the end of November, =
resolving everything already reported (in particular well-tested JDK 1.3 =
compatibility), and of course everything reported in the meantime.

If we encounter some javadoc to improve or convenience method to add =
during our ongoing book and sample app work, let's get this done too. =
There is no freeze for minor new features yet.

1.1.3 is supposed to be the last release in the 1.1.x branch, so testing =
of old and new features on various JDKs and J2EE servers is very welcome =
too. All that remains will have to wait for 1.2 RC1.

Just keep in mind that pointint to a classpath location, with any 
wildcarding, will break when the app is deployed such that the files are 
actually not on the physical filesystem. For example, WebLogic will not 
expand the entire contents of a WAR or EAR to the filesystem, relying 
instead on a specialized URL handler to get resources directly from 
within the archive. There's nothing that Spring can do about that 
particular situation...

I'm sure I spotted someone mention a custom bean configuration thingy 
that could be used in your Spring.xml to fix this - but tried searching 
the archives and couldn't spot it.

Basically I'd like to be able to do this...

   <bean id="sessionFactory" 
class="org.springframework.orm.hibernate.LocalSessionFactoryBean">
     <property name="dataSource">
       <ref local="dataSource"/>
     </property>
     <property name="mappingResources">
       <list>
         <value>**/*.hbm.xml</value>
       </list>
     </property>

rather than have to name each single mapping file by name. e.g..

     <property name="mappingResources">

etc.

Right now we've put JDK 1.5 specific code into a separate module, 
samples (well, really a project called tiger under there, as there's 
also an aspectj project), which is parallel to the main spring module. 
It could probably go in there.

The best thing to do is to put it into JIRA so it doesn't get lost, as I 
can't do much with the 1.5 stuff until after about the 26th...

I've written an useful spring/hibernate class for usage with
java.util.concurrent from j2se 1.5 ( it's a ThreadFactory that wraps any thread
generated with TransactionSynchronizationManager so that each thread has it's
own associated session and transaction ).

I was thinking of contributing that back into spring, but i assume spring
doesn't get compiled with a jdk1.5 :(

Is there any plans on allowing 1.5 builds ?

[Springframework-developer] Spring 1.1.2 released

I'm pleased to announce that Spring 1.1.2 has just been released. This =
is a bugfix and minor enhancement release. Among the new features are:

* added support for multi-dimensional collections to BeanWrapperImpl =
(e.g. "map[myKey][0]" or "map[myKey][0].name")
* added "getType(name)" method to BeanFactory interface, checking the =
type of object that "getBean" would return
* added "getBeansOfType(type)" convenience method to ListableBeanFactory =
interface, without explicit filters
* added PropertyPathFactoryBean, allowing to evaluate the property path =
of a target bean and expose the result
* allow "bean*" rather than "bean+" in XML bean definitions, i.e. no =
bean definitions in a file (just imports)

* AbstractApplicationContext automatically registers a context-aware =
ResourceArrayPropertyEditor for Resource arrays
* added GenericApplicationContext class, allowing for arbitrary =
definition formats (via a single internal BeanFactory)
* improved ResourceBundleMessageSource and =
ReloadableResourceBundleMessageSource implementations
* added "setText(plainText, htmlText)" method to MimeMessageHelper, for =
alternative texts in the same mail

* added "objectResult(collection,type)" and =
"intResult"/"longResult(collection)" convenience methods to =
DataAccessUtils
* added support for pre-bound Sessions (e.g. =
OpenSessionInViewFilter/Interceptor) with JTA and =
TransactionManagerLookup
* added "load(entity, id)" method to HibernateOperations and =
HibernateTemplate
* added "initialize" and "closeIterator" methods to =
HibernateOperations/Template, following "Hibernate.initialize/close"
* added "queryCacheRegion" property to HibernateTemplate, specifying the =
cache region used for queries

* added ServletContextResourcePatternResolver, to find matching =
resources within a web app even in an unexpanded WAR
* added "defaultStatusCode" property to SimpleMappingExceptionResolver, =
specifying the HTTP status code for error views
* UrlBasedViewResolver supports a "redirect:" prefix now, for convenient =
redirects through special view names
* added "springMessage"/"springMessageText" macros for Velocity and =
"message"/"messageText" macros for FreeMarker

Note that this Spring distribution comes with an updated HSQLDB version, =
namely 1.7.2.7. Unfortunately, the HSQLDB 1.7.2 branch is incompatible =
with 1.7.1 in some areas. While all Spring sample apps have been adapted =
accordingly, please be aware that updating your own applications with =
the new hsqldb.jar requires your HSQLDB server to be updated too (i.e. =
both need to run version 1.7.2). Furthermore, watch out when running on =
JBoss <3.2.6, which ships with HSQLDB 1.7.1 in the server classpath.

The intent was always that the 'ejbtest' and 'integration' apps under 
autobuilds would start being used by the autobuilds script, but I never 
finished the work required for that integration. What I've done over the 
last days, including some work this morning, is move both 'intergration' 
and 'ejbtest' over to a common build system, wher most targets are 
imported from the common build system, and dependency handling for the 
builds is localized.

There is still work required to actually make the projects callable from 
autobuild though, and I won't be able to do that for a while, probably 
2-3 weeks.

That's my mistake, I should have added the bootstrapper in the first
place. Anyway, it's fixed now.

About the nightly build. Colin, I saw you added lots of stuff to the EJB
test application. Do those changes include support for building it with
the autobuilds structure as well? I think it would be nice if we could
add more server tests during the autobuilds. Might take away the a bit
of the need to test all the applications before issuing a release (ok,
fully removing the need won't be possible I guess, but it's nice to
try).
