All, We really need to come to a desicion of how this should be implemented if I am to get a fix done in time for 1.1.3. Currently I see two ways to solve the problem: 1. Add setConstructorArgs(Object[], Class[]) to ProxyFactoryBean 2. Attempt to locate the <constructor-arg> definitions of the target bean, although I think this involves iterating over the bean definitions attempting to match to the target. Also when using anything but a SingletonTargetSource the match might not succeed. I am taking a break this week but I will be around for discussion on this - just won't be starting it until Monday. I think that file got corrupted in CVS. Jurgen uploaded it again I think. Rob Darren Davison wrote: >should the tests for JasperReports be working at the moment? Hi J=FCrgen. I can't see this modification in cvs yet. Did you commit it? /rob j=FCrgen h=F6ller [werk3AT] wrote: >Indeed, this doesn't work if there's no Errors instance in the model. Well, all I can say beyond that JasperReports is not tied to a web = environment: check out the JasperReports docs at = http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net - standalone usage of JasperReports = does not have anything to do with Spring. The only convenience that = Spring offers is the JasperReportsUtils class, which you may or may not = choose to use for rendering a report - the plain JasperReports API is = not too hard either in that respect. =20 Juergen =20 ________________________________ Von: spr...@li... im Auftrag = von Andy Depue Gesendet: Mo 22.11.2004 19:57 An: spr...@li... Indeed, this doesn't work if there's no Errors instance in the model. = The fallback of looking for the plain command object always looks for a = request attribute. I would think so, especially since there is a workaround for the current
version of Spring.

Hello, I'm developing a reflection and conversion library that is more = powerful and flexible than PropertyEditors and Commons BeanUtils. I = wanted to post a message letting Spring developers know because Rod = Johnson mentioned in his first book that there really wasn't a good = reflection library out there. Here's a (temporary) link until the SourceForge project is started: http://www.crystalcognition.com/sgarlatm/morph/ Here's some more information on the approach I've taken - In place of a registry that tries to 'pick' the right converter (e.g. = - PropertyEditorManager, ConvertUtils.register), I have the Converters = themselves say which objects they can and cannot convert. The user = assembles these converters (programmatically, or via an IoC framework) = in whatever order they like into a mega-converter, if you will, that = will function more similarly to the ConvertUtils.convert method in = BeanUtils. This 'mega-converter' conforms to the simple Converter = interface like every other, 'non-mega' converter. - In place of BeanUtils.copyProperties there is a Copier interface. It = is very similar to the Converter interface, but it's original intent was = different: to copy data from one location to another, where creating a = new object doesn't make sense. For example, let's say we want to store = information from a Map or an object graph as separate attributes in an = HTTP request. We can't just create a new HTTP request object... it = already exists! So we use a Copier. Basically, Converters are for the = simple stuff like primitives, Dates, etc and Copiers are for fancier = things like Object[] -> List. You can always take something that is = written with the Copier interface and expose it as a Converter but not = vice-versa (The net.sf.morph.converters.CopierConverter class exposes a = Copier as a Converter). - While working on Copiers, I realized I needed to be able to pull = information out of various different types of things: objects and maps = are simple examples, but I might also want to be able to pull info from = HTTP request parameters, etc. This is what Reflectors are for. They = help Copiers get the job done. A lot of these ideas are still being fleshed out. I would love to hear = any comments you may have. Thanks, Matt |

Good suggestions! Actually, an "exposeToolAttributes" method has already =
been factored out since 1.1.2.
=20
I've also implemented your second suggestion: a factored out =
"doRender(Context, HttpServletResponse)" method that determines the =
template instance via the "url" bean property and delegates to the =
existing "mergeTemplate" method for the actual merging of template and =
Velocity context.
=20
"mergeTemplate" needs the template parameter because we support fresh =
fetching of the template instance from the VelocityEngine for each =
rendering. The VelocityEngine itself will cache the template, so this is =
a viable strategy. If turning the "cacheTemplate" property to "true", =
VelocityView itself will cache the template instance too (which is =
slightly more efficient than Velocity's own caching, but doesn't check =
whether the template file has changed).
=20
In your case, you should be able to override "doRender" and call =
"mergeTemplate" for each of the templates that you want to render. The =
template model will already be complete when passed into "doRender", so =
should not need to worry about exposing the helpers and tool attributes.
=20
Please have a look at the current version of VelocityView in CVS and =
check whether it meets your needs! I'll commit it promptly, so it should =
be visible in public CVS by tomorrow morning at the latest.=20

Betreff: Re: [Springframework-developer] Subclassing VelocityView
Yes,
a) I would refactor the method renderMergedTemplateModel extracting the =
code
that puts in the Context the different formatters and tools.
Of course, I'd make it protected in order to be overridden.
b) mergeTemplate should not take the Template argument. Template is an
instance variable, so it doesn't need to be passed in.
It could be renamed into "mergeContext" instead. In this way one =
could
use the context the merge more than one templates as in my case nicely.
Hope I made clear my ideas and that they make sense to you all.

OK, I see. I'll add an "isCacheTemplate" getter. Do you have any other
suggestions on how to improve VelocityView in terms of easy subclassing?

Juergen, Rob
Is it possible use jasper out of spring MVC (for instance, in spring rcp) =
and is there any documentation, please ?
Thanks

Jurgen,
I just took a look at what you did - looks cool! This is definitely
ready for inclusion now.

Many thanks for your efforts, Darren! =20 Good that you caught that Commons Collections issue with 0 as initial = capacity. This is a notable difference to the JDK 1.4 collection = implementations, which simply use 1 as minimal capacity in such a case. =20 Renaming test classes to allow for easier exclusion is OK too. I'd just = like to avoid Jdk14* naming in public classes in Spring itself - classes = like JdkRegexpMethodPointcut will work on JDK >=3D 1.4, so Jdk14*-style = naming would look somewhat dated pretty soon. =20 Juergen =20 ________________________________ Von: spr...@li... im Auftrag = von Darren Davison Gesendet: So 21.11.2004 12:13 An: spr...@li... Betreff: [Springframework-developer] JDK 1.3 compatibility (again) After a recent mail about Spring issues in JDK 1.3, I did a little more testing on my own machines, and the SF CF machines. It's quite = important to me as we're one of the laggard companies that still uses it via WebSphere 5.0.x! I ran the entire test suite (built obviously with a 1.4 JDK) on 1.3 and = was actually pretty pleased with the results. There were 6 failures and 24 errors. Here's a brief breakdown for those interested; Of the 24 errors.. * 9 are due to references to java.sql.Savepoint in the test cases, * 7 are due to running tests explicitly designed for JDK 1.4 (for = example Jdk14ControlFlowTests and JdkRegexpMethodPointcutTests) which can be excluded with test.excludes=3D... I renamed = JdkRegexpMethodPointcutTests to Jdk14RegexpMethodPointcutTests if that's ok? Makes it easier to exclude tests by naming patterns. * 2 are in a large test class and reference java.util.prefs - these = tests have been amended to simply return if JDK 1.3 is detected. Of the remaining 6, 2 are caused by the new org.springframework.core.CollectionFactory since it doesn't check the initialCapacity parameter before creating a Commons Collection instance = on JDK 1.3. Commons Collections cannot have an initial capacity of 0. = I've changed the code in this class and added corresponding tests Juergen. = Just committed if you want to check. The remaining 4 errors probably need looking at on a case by case basis = to see if they would cause usage issues or if they are just test code = issues=20 - I haven't had time to check these yet. The 6 failures are all in ResourceBundleMessageSourceTests and are = mildly concerning as I think this would cause a usage failure if anyone = depended on this functionality. It seems (without going into it closely) that = all the failures occur when a resource bundle is referenced with a Locale = that specifies a country, language AND a variant in its constructor. It = seems that the variant is ignored and the resource bundle corresponding to the country and language only is used instead. I'll post more later. Got to go sort out my son's birthday party now. -- Darren Davison Public Key: #DD356B0D |
