Preface (email sent to dev list)
Google Summer of Code is here again!
GSOC generally provides means for projects to acquire students to do some coding for feature ideas. Google pays the students for this, maybe pays the projects themselves some smaller sums, too - but the main purpose of participating for SD would be to draw public attention and more developers in our project.
It was Eckhard who proposed to have a shot at it and I think it really deserves 1-2 meaningful days in our project's life. I've offered JP to coordinate this effort, so as a first step, I would like to ask all of you, my fellow developer members, to think thoroughly a bit about small, well-defined features that you would like to see in SD after 2.0.
For some starters, look at our Wiki, namely "Feature Ideas In General", "Towards 2.0" & "Past and Scheduled Meetings" to see if there exists a nice future small-size project.
Students can do the coding between 23 May and 22 August, so this is the maximum timescale of such a project: 3 months. However our feature ideas must be submitted by the end of February so I ask you all to answer in the following days for sure. I will collect these ideas in the wiki and we will decide about them after that.
The Ideas are now were listed on a separate page.

subject Thank you for your application
Hi kilo,
Thank you for submitting "Speed Dreams" organization application to Google Summer of Code 2011. Unfortunately, we were unable to accept your organization's application at this time. We received many more applications for the program than we are able to accommodate, and we would encourage you to reapply for future instances of the program.
Best regards, Google Open Source Programs
So this means we weren't selected. I thank everyone who've helped with his input in putting together the application, especially Jean-Philippe who has helped me quite a bit in a late, last-minute rush.
Nevertheless I think it was a good effort, especially when we look at the ideas page - it helped us to make our ideas more exact, to select the really useful ones.
Now - let's work on them :)
