2025 UPDATE: we have finally moved to Git!

https://forge.a-lec.org/speed-dreams/speed-dreams-code/

This SourceForge project will be kept as a read-only archive and will be eventually removed!

Speed Dreams is a Motorsport Simulator featuring high-quality 3D graphics and an accurate physics engine, all targeting maximum realism. Initially forked from TORCS, it has now reached a clearly higher realism level in visual and physics simulation, thanks to its active development team and growing community. It mainly aims to implement exciting new features, cars, tracks and AI opponents to make a more enjoyable game for the player, while constantly pushing forward visual and physics realism. It is also intended for any research, study or teaching activity, around physics and AI, thanks to its GPL V2+ license, and the clear and modular architecture of its C/C++ code base.

Features

  • 3D real-time motorsport simulator for gamers and researchers
  • Accurate physics targeting maximum possible realism
  • High Quality graphics
  • 21 HQ tracks to race on
  • 82 HQ fine-tuned cars in 16 balanced and consistent sets
  • Many more cars and tracks available from the community
  • 4 first class AI opponents for thrilling races
  • Fully open to any research, study or teaching work (physics, AI, graphics, ...)
  • Support for many input devices (keyboard, joypad, joystick, wheel/pedal ...)
  • Runs under Windows and Linuxes and Mac OS X

User Reviews

  • This project has moved, and the content here --except for the forum-- is obsolete. But the small number of reviews and nature (weight dispersion) of the ratings surprised me. So, I thought it prudent to leave a glowing review. It took me a while to figure out even the basics, but the effort pays off. (And I've actually also learnt a lot about my 'new' OS, by p****rvering in tweaking this game/sim to my liking and hardware. If you want to go all-out and have a great simulator, you might need to spend some time -- but it's worth every minute that I spent on it since the end of 2024. Also -- the single-file, double-click AppImage really did the trick for me, getting the wheels rolling fast. I've not had to build or install anything; it all worked flawlessly from v2.30 through the current 2v42. I don't play console npr retail race games, but I do know they can easily look better these graphics -- granted. But this is FOSS all the way, and still being developed; and personally, I am quite happy with what's already here. For now, I've used keyboards, mice, and touchpads; but I'm cautiously considering buying a wheel (and spending a little more money, since it really seems that force feedback actually works) especially for this game. Keep your engines running!
  • This is a Great game! Keyboard and mouse controls feel good depending on the vehicle of choice.
  • A nice project with a great potential.
  • This simulator has a lot of potential to be unleashed yet. For now, it's a great simulator, although graphics aren't "triple A" standard. On the bright side, the physics are best than most "triple A" sims sold for abusive prices. This is free, goes natively on Linux, and is still improving through time,
