I'll put in the key start / stop keyboard commands in. It's just something that was overlooked. As far as muting and unmuting more than 2 tracks, that is a hardware problem with computer keyboards. You will notice that if you are using any software (such as a text editor) and you mash down 4-5 keys, they will not appear. Adding Latency would be a good idea. I'll put that on my TODO list. cheers rob >Hi, > > >I just replaced my roland mc-50 with seq24. There is currently no way for seq24 to sync up via external midi clock.=20 I'm not ceratin if other jack transport apps can sync to midi clock which seq24 could then slave too. I don't think there are. There is so much jitter in midi clock. And few jack transport apps handle tempo change well. It's a fairly hard problem if you want really good timing. cheers rob >Hi! > >For our live sets I would need to sync seq24 to an external midi clock. >Is that possible with seq24? Hi, I just replaced my roland mc-50 with seq24. What a GREAT app! 2 minor problems: It's great to control the patterns with the cumputer keyboard for live performance, but do I really have to start seq24 with my mouse. Enter should start the player, space for pause and 2 times space to restart all loops. It looks like seq24 has problems to (des)active more than 2 tracks simultanously with the computer keyboard. Anyone has the same experience? P.S. It would be nice to give some latency to certain patterns. This should be usefull to synchronize external devices with jack-audio-connection-kit applications (and other devices that have a little latency). Greetings Hendrik -- Hendrik Wouters <hwouters@pandora. be> |

Hi! For our live sets I would need to sync seq24 to an external midi clock. Is that possible with seq24? If I use jack transport, there is still the problem how to sync jack to an external midi clock. Thanks! Christoph -- www.alfadeo.de www.alfadeo.de/in-silico/ |

I had similar issues and resolved them by installing the dependencies from source. Takes ages but it works... In my case, the issue was caused by the pkgconfig files being installed to /usr/local/* instead of /usr/* I should add that although being very IT proficient (10 years professionally) I am a total *nix newbie, so this could be bad advice... But it did work for me (on FC3) Good luck Todd -----Original Message----- From: seq...@li... [mailto:seq...@li...] On Behalf Of seq...@li... Sent: Tuesday, 8 March 2005 3:24 PM To: seq...@li... Hi list, unfortunately seq24 frequently crashes during jam sessions, therefore makes live a bit hard. I have the newest version installed so I wonder whether someone has the same problem. The thing I do is simply record midi-in from one device and send clock from seq24 to another. what could be the problem? It crashes with a segementation fault when I run it in a shell. someone similar experiences? thnks. karsten |

I had a little trouble getting used to this at first, too, but it actually makes sense after you figure it out: the three little buttons in the bottom-right of the editor window control, from left to right, whether data dumps from the pattern *to* the midi bus (the pattern "plays"), whether incoming midi is passed *through* the editor, so that you can hear notes as you play them, and whether incoming midi is added to the pattern being edited (the elusive Record button!)... the fact that you can toggle these individually is nice, but maybe not immediately intuitive for people accustomed to "tape recorder" style transport controls - just remember, the little rectangle in on the buttons represents the pattern editor, and the midi can flow out of, through (or more correctly "past"), or into it, one button for each. Is that a muddled enough explanation? :) > I don't see seq24 in the list of readable or writable clients in > qjackctl. Is that the problem? That's normal - seq 24 listens to the midi bus as a whole, from what i can tell, and it likes to select the device that it sends to in it's own editor window (top right corner). Hope that helps. P.S. The information above is based on version 0.6.0-rc5, since that's the last version I've had a chance to try out; Hopefully none of what I mentioned has changed in the last version, which I hope to have time to play with soon. -- yawfle |

I would really like to be able to choose time-signature in the performance editor, i really am a sucker for odd time signatures and it would be of great help, since for example 7/8 is already supported in the main program it would be very nice. the ideal solution would be to be able to change time signature mid-song, if i want 3 parts 4/4 and then one 5/4. maybe this is overkill and not in line with seq24s idea, but hey, you asked= ;) /kristoffer str=F6m On Wed, 23 Feb 2005 00:18:13 +0100, Federico <xa...@in...> wrote: > On Tue, 22 Feb 2005 13:29:35 -0500 (EST) > "Rob Buse" <rc...@fi...> wrote: > > > > > hey everyone > > > > seq24-0.6.1 is up. > > I just changed a little of the drawing code in note editor and added > > some tools (quantize, transpose, and harmonic transpose), more on the > > way... > > how do the tighten/quantise funcions work? > > > If anyone can think of operations they want added to the tools menu, > > let me know. > > user editable scales! :-) > > in the arranger: something to reset sync of a part in a specific point > > -- > Federico > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide > Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. > Discover which products truly live up to the hype. Here comes one of those questions I usually ignore when I see them on lists: Where's the record button? I'm trying to record MIDI events from vkeyboard, and have them play back on amSynth. I can open the sequence editor and write a note into the grid with the little pencil, but how do I record from vkeybd? I don't see seq24 in the list of readable or writable clients in qjackctl. Is that the problem? Even if I did, I still can't find the record button... Thanks, chris |

Because of the way jack transport is implemented, you need to specify if you want seq24 running in live mode, or performance mode. I suspect your wanting to use it in live mode, and it defaults to performance mode. Add --jack_start_mode 0. rob > hello, > > I could not find anything similar to my problem on the list, so I > think its ok to ask you now about a particularly annoying behaviour of > seq24 when in --jack_transport mode. > the problem is (and I did not have that before!) that the boxes (the > loops) can't be turned on anymore (resp. they are immediately turned > off) when jack transprort is running. > > I tried to edit the rc-file to filter out the information, but did not > succeed, although this clearly could be traced back to my insufficient > understanding of the sequencer.... > :( > however, I hope you have a tipp, or a solution, that would be very > much appreciated! > > thanks, > > karstn > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide > Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. > Discover which products truly live up to the hype. I am new to seq24. I got it to work with fluidsynth and alsa virtual-midi. However it's taken me three days to figure out that to add notes or events in 'draw' mode you have to simultaneously (1) hold down the right-mouse button and (2) click with the left-mouse button on the pianoroll or the event strip. Could you please update that in the documentation. By the way, would you be interested by the documentation being re-formatted in HTML with screenshots? Once again I think seq24 is a smashing tool. I am now going to test it with PureData. Yours, Stephan |

hello, I could not find anything similar to my problem on the list, so I think its ok to ask you now about a particularly annoying behaviour of seq24 when in --jack_transport mode. the problem is (and I did not have that before!) that the boxes (the loops) can't be turned on anymore (resp. they are immediately turned off) when jack transprort is running. I tried to edit the rc-file to filter out the information, but did not succeed, although this clearly could be traced back to my insufficient understanding of the sequencer.... :( however, I hope you have a tipp, or a solution, that would be very much appreciated! thanks, karstn |

hey everyone. There is yet another release. This time I changed some font drawing code to really speed things up. I finished the remote midi control, so you can now change bpm, screen sets, and use all the ctrl, alt, shift mod keys via midi. I removed the midi control stuff from the options dialog, you now have to edit your .seq24rc file to change your settings. The dialog drawing was way too slow so I just removed it. how are these releases working for everyone ? cheers! rob --------------------------------------------------- http://filter24.org art + technology |

hey everyone.
I revamped the jack transport stuff a little bit more.
It is now turned off by default.
It should also be a bit more solid.
here are the flags you need to be concered with when you run seq24.
--jack_transport : seq24 will sync to jack transport
--jack_master : seq24 will try to be jack master
--jack_master_cond : jack master will fail if there is already a master
--jack_start_mode <x> : when seq24 is synced to jack, the following play
modes are available (0 = live mode)
(1 =
performance mode) (default)
these will all be added to the options menu shortly, but for now just use
the flags.
cheers!

Currently the way it is set up, you can't do tempo changes when you are jack sync mode/transport master, it can however sync to ardours tempo changes. It's in the queue to be fixed, when I figure out how. :) It's much better to let someone else be master if your going to be recording. Also, it will always run in the performance mode (using the on/off boxes from the perfomance editor) when synced to jack. if you don't want jack transport, run with --without_jack flag. I think I might change that as well. It's seems if its enabled by default its causing problems. thanks rob > i just compiled seq24-0.6.0-rc3, thanks! > > i am having a issue where tempo decreases 10bpm when using seq24 and > jack together. i don't have this problem when jack sync is disabled. > > start jack: jackd -R -dalsa -dhw:0 -r48000 -p1024 -n2 > start seq24: JACK transport master > > ef > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > The SF.Net email is sponsored by: Beat the post-holiday blues > Get a FREE limited edition SourceForge.net t-shirt from ThinkGeek. > It's fun and FREE -- well, almost....http://www.thinkgeek.com/sfshirt > _______________________________________________ > seq24-users mailing list > seq...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/seq24-users > --------------------------------------------------- http://filter24.org art + technology |
