I had a little trouble getting used to this at first, too, but it 
actually makes sense after you figure it out: the three little buttons 
in the bottom-right of the editor window control, from left to right, 
whether data dumps from the pattern *to* the midi bus (the pattern 
"plays"), whether incoming midi is passed *through* the editor, so that 
you can hear notes as you play them, and whether incoming midi is added 
to the pattern being edited (the elusive Record button!)... the fact 
that you can toggle these individually is nice, but maybe not 
immediately intuitive for people accustomed to "tape recorder" style 
transport controls - just remember, the little rectangle in on the 
buttons represents the pattern editor, and the midi can flow out of, 
through (or more correctly "past"), or into it, one button for each.

Is that a muddled enough explanation? :)

That's normal - seq 24 listens to the midi bus as a whole, from what i 
can tell, and it likes to select the device that it sends to in it's 
own editor window (top right corner).

P.S. The information above is based on version 0.6.0-rc5, since that's 
the last version I've had a chance to try out; Hopefully none of what I 
mentioned has changed in the last version, which I hope to have time to 
play with soon.
