Hi, I am running Seq24 with Jack, Hydrogen and ZynAddSubFX, all properly linked in Jackctl according to the guidelines found here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToSeq24Introduction Everything works fine, and I can hear the ZynAddSubFX instruments and Hydrogen drumkit in the pianoroll editor, but playback produces no sound (after having created a song pattern of course, having configured the output bus settings and having enabled the midi playback). Here is the output I get from Hydrogen when I hit play: [WARNING] Hydrogen [audioEngine_process] trylock != 0. Frames = 66560. Lock in Hydrogen::addRealtimeNote I have only just started using Seq24, and haven't been using Jack for a very long time either, so if this sounds familiar, or if I'm making an obvious error, could you please point me to the right direction? Many thanks, Demetra |

Greetings all, I've been messing around with Seq24 and JACK-based linux audio experimentation for about a year and a half now. Seq24 is a simply brilliant bit of software, thanks to all involved. The feature I'd kill for would be MIDI triggering of start/stop. In the same vein, being able to trigger start repeatedly, so every time it's triggered, the loops jump back to the beginning (pressing play while Seq24 is already playing does nothing now...). This would be extremely useful for syncing manually when DJing (sooperlooper has this feature, and it's the only thing that keeps me using it). - Bjorn Westergard http://www.phrontist.org |

Hello, step by step seq24 has become the center piece of my musical performence system, along with ecasound. Almost perfect, it would be great if opening a new midi file on the file would change the suitable tempo. And I suspect that opening a midi file on the fly is really buggy, it survives, but the time take to seq24 to completely load the midi file gives stranges sounds ;). (loading a midi file "on the fly" means while seq24 plays back) I would like to help for this project as high as I can (perhaps the french translation ?) Best regards Philippe |

Hi Rob, I was hoping you would accept the two patches I have attached to this email. -- seq24-label-fix.diff This one-liner simply shows the MIDI bus number on the main window on a scale of 1-16 instead of 0-15. This is more in line with the MIDI channel number display, as well as in the menus for the MIDI bus, where they are numbered 1-16. I have been using seq24 a lot in the past few weeks, and this gets a bit confusing sometimes. If I check via the box label what bus a pattern is playing on, when it says 10, the actual bus is 11, and so it throws me off because 10 is the one I want (since this is where I have connected Hydrogen via JACK). It's just a consistency fix, to help get rid of some confusion. -- seq24-menu-changes.diff As I said, I have been using seq24 a lot in the past few weeks, and it's been bugging me that to quickly change the MIDI channel that a pattern is playing on I have to either right-click and Edit and then change from the menu there, or right-click and go to Midi Bus > [same Midi Bus I already have selected, which is numbered differently than what is labeled on the box, hence the above patch] > new Channel Number. I frequently forget and change the bus by mistake. So what I did with this patch was broke the thing into two menus, MIDI Bus and MIDI Channel. Now you can change either/or very quickly and easily. The only thing better than this patch (that I could think of) would be to point the cursor at a pattern box, hold CTRL and mousewheel to change the bus, or hold ALT and mousewheel to change the channel (but this is beyond my programming skills at this time..). -- I Ccd the user list in case anyone else finds these patches useful. They apply against the latest 0.8.7 release and compile cleanly (they are very minor changes, really). Thanks for the consideration, Rob. And I'm sorry that my first patches weren't something more spectacular that you have been requested for more often. :) Dana |

Hi A while back we talked about a bug involving user names and --manual-alsa-ports flag. Has that been fixed, and if so could I get this from cvs/svn somewhere? A number of issues + wishes: 1) If I select all notes with "select->all notes" and press delete the selected notes (all notes) will not be deleted (unlike if I select them by drag-select). I guess this is a bug... 2) I think the following keyboard shortcuts would be really nice: C-a: select all notes C-q: quantize selected (or all if none selected) space: start/stop playback Others nice keyboard shortcuts would include. "select none", "invert selection", "strength quantize" "set quantize note value", and "set grid snap value" (could be using some combination involving 1-9) and "delete selected pattern (on song editor) (delete key comes to mind). 3) How is the round robbin feature coming along? I see this (and other useful stuff) implemented here: http://www.desfonema.com.ar/index.php?page=software. Is that something that is being merged into the main source? 4) When running seq24 alone (no ardour) I really, really miss the ability to start playback from a certain point in the song editor. A way to start playback from loop start (key shortcut could be "C-space" or "return") would be ideal, when you're working on a certain section of a track. Looking forward to hearing what you all think... -- peace, love & harmony Atte http://www.atte.dk | quintet: http://www.anagrammer.dk | compositions: http://www.atte.dk/compositions |

hello erverybody, here is my problem: midi-clock works fine, but mmc does not work perfect. sometimes it does, sometimes, it starts, but not in sync (but clock signal is still coming). tested with korg electribe sx and yamaha motif6. do not have these problems with muse, so alsa-sequencer should work fine... anybody else, who has this problem? any ideas that could help? thanks and greetings l.chaos |

hi fellow seq24 users. Here are a few functions that would be really cool. 1) Dragging and dropping track position in the pattern and song editors. This would make it easy to put similar patterns near each other when you're sorting a messy pile o' patterns. 2) Multiple pattern selection. This would allow you to instantly assign multiple patterns to the same midi bus. If I could do that, I might just open up a separate seq24 instance for each intrument! cheers, capsid |

Are we sure its seq24 shooting off midi early and not the click being delayed? If you have seq24 send out some midi to a drummachine or something and record that back in ardour, how are the waves lining up when zoomed way in ? seq24 triggering early would look like this: ardour timeline: |0 |1 |2 |3 |4 |5 recorded wav beats: |=3D- X=3D- X=3D- X=3D- X=3D- X=3D- it should look like this: ardour timeline: |0 |1 |2 |3 |4 |5 recorded wav beats: |X=3D- X=3D- X=3D- X=3D- X=3D- X=3D- Rob >Hello there, > >yesterday I did my first real recording with Ardour and seq24. > >I need to set jackd to a buffer of 1024 samples in order to avoid xruns. >However, when I do not run seq24, I can go down to 256 samples without >getting xruns. > >But that's not the issue. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello there, yesterday I did my first real recording with Ardour and seq24. I need to set jackd to a buffer of 1024 samples in order to avoid xruns. However, when I do not run seq24, I can go down to 256 samples without getting xruns. But that's not the issue. The issue is: Notes from seq24 are too early. (I have an external sampler connected to an M-Audio Midi Sport Uno interface.) seq24 is sync'ed with jackd and Ardour is the time master. All notes come in before the click. This is especially annoying when I want to record some audio to the not yet recorded drum track (which I have in seq24). After recording I can manually move the track, but that's not as intended. I can't plan the entire drum track ahead without knowing how the piece will go. Is there a way to delay the output of seq24? Furthermore, is there a way to have this adjusted automatically? I'm using realtime-lsm, Kernel 2.6.17.11 on Gentoo, Ardour 0.9.33, jackd 0.100.7, seq24 0.8.7 and an RME Hammerfall Digi 9636 soundcard. there is a rectangle, between the pianoroll the velocity pane.
here you can add new events (of type: you selected it just before) just
like you do for adding new notes, then you can change their value in the
velocity pane
