Hi, I know this question has been asked before but it hasn't been answered in the previous posts I've seen. Is there a way to alphabetize the items in the "Send-To" menu? Thanks, hs |

Sorry, I should mention I'm using the 1.2 version for Debian. Howard Shane wrote: > Hi, > > I know this question has been asked before but it hasn't been answered > in the previous posts I've seen. Is there a way to alphabetize the items > in the "Send-To" menu? > > Thanks, > hs > |

I use the send-to option for quite a few things, including a 'move to Trash' option. Since this feature is simply a directory of scripts, symbolic links, and/or subdirectories, your options for this are limited. Rox displays the directory items as they are read from the directory so the order you created them (seems to be) the order they are displayed. For my setup, I simply moved them into the ~/Choices/SendTo directory in the order I wanted the 'Send To' menu to list them. In my case, this forces the 'Trash' option to be first, then a directory with a few editors (also in order of preference) and then the other items. Hope this helps you. Mike T |

Everything in my ~/Choices/SendTo directory is a homebrewed script or a symlink, and it's getting quite cluttered. It doesn't appear to be sorted by order of creation, file type or frequency of use, and when I move and recopy the items in preferred order as you suggest there's no change, likewise if I alter the file or filename (including capitalizing). This is what my 'sendto' menu looks like now: fax* vim* gimp@ faxviewer fax2lpr mplayer@ mozilla@ guitar@ mpg321@ openoffice@ printer* gpg-decrypt* ...pretty ugly. I'm curious, does the 1.2 version of rox filer allow for the creation of subdirectories (e.g. .images) as outlined in the updated online manual? This would solve some of my problems short of upgrading. This would solve some of my problems short of upgrading. Sorry, I haven't used the 1.2 versions in quite a while so my suggestions may not work. I tested this several times on my current setup with several different file arrangements, even restarting the X session to be sure it worked as I thought it did. Every instance kept the exact file order (in the 'send to' menu, not the directory list, which Rox sorts) in which I created them. My directory is somewhat like yours with a mix of scripts and symlinks. When setting this up, I only used ROX-Filer, moved the links out completely then moved them back, one by one. I can only guess the difference would be the ROX versions. Mike T. |

It probably depends on the filesystem you're using. But using 1.3.9 you can use subdirectories, which should mostly solve the problem. -- Thomas Leonard http://rox.sourceforge.net ta...@ec... ta...@us... This would solve some of my problems short of upgrading. I don't use the .hidden directory method. In my understanding, this requires setting up the hidden directory for the type PLUS a directory (.group) for multiple selections. My method uses subdirectories and I simply select through those via cursor keys or the mouse. I find this much easier than setting up one thing for a single instance and another for group selections. But, this is just IMHO... Mike T. |
