I have imported the DB 1.1 Beta into the sourceforge's CVS if anyone is interested. Marc has introduced a new (and better) directory structure into the project. Since CVS doesn't deal well with modified directory structures, I've created a new module for future development. To download the latest from cvs: cvs co pilot-db I will prepare a binary release in the next week or two, but it will still be in a /beta/ phase. -Scott |

I really don't use the link feature very often, and marc built it, so I only have a basic idea about how it works. And I guess I'm not sure exactly what is happening. if you do ./configure --help configure will print out all sorts of build options (e.g. --enable-icons, etc). Some additional developer options (such as the way marc and I frequently build db) are not documented in the help screen but can be found by looking at the configure.in file (e.g. --enable-scott) -Scott On Wed, 2002-09-04 at 20:26, KANE Peter (CA) wrote: > > is there a flag setting in the configure command that you can set the > version? > (sorry about the double posting, I forgot to do the subject) |

Hello, I had build some db's which were linked. Now I want to delete some records. I open the record and delete it. After deletion the palm db jumps to the table overview. I can repeat it until the last record. These record can't be opened. I must delete it over the menu. Is it correct? I mean I can only edit the record, if I add a second record. With best regards. Just FYI, I managed to build db-tools_0_3_4 (the flatfile part anyway) on Mac OS X 10.1.5. OSX 10.1.5 uses GCC 2.95.2 which has outdated C++ support, and I had to use an add-on GNU sstream from: http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/libstdc++/2000-q2/msg00700/sstream which I had to edit it to typecast the signed/unsigned comparison on line 171: if( buf.size() - rpos != (unsigned) n) I also had to add -Wno-long-double to CPPFLAGS in various Makefiles. -- Chris |

I get an "Unable to open database" error for databases created with csv2pdb when I try to load them into pilot-DB (generated using the default 0.3.x DB format). Oddly enough, if I create a JFile3 format DB (--type=JF3) and load it, it works (but I want to use list fields which JF3 doesn't support). This is with db-tools 0.3.4 and pilot-db 1.0.2. I built db-tools on Mac OS X 10.1.5 (see following msg) and also tried the pre-built binaries for DOS/Win, both with the same "Unable to open database" result. Any idea why this is happening? -- Chris Here are my test files which I built with "csv2pdb -i Test.info Test.pdb": ------------------------ Test.info --------------------------------- title "Test" field "Category" string field "Item" string view "Category" "Category" 46 "Item" 30 csvfile "Test.csv" ------------------------ Test.csv --------------------------------- "Car","Brush" "Car","Coolers" "Engines","Helmets" "Engines","Oil" "Engines","Gas" "Bike","Clothes" |

Not really. A linked field looses all of its type information in the main database. So your ints are actually turned into strings. You could do string operations on these fields, but that's it. Perhaps in the future this will change, but for now it is a relatively low priority. -Scott On Wed, 2002-09-04 at 11:26, Kaldewey Malte wrote: > Hello, > is it possible to calculate some fields, which where stored in more than one > database? > > For example: > There're 3 databases which contains some values. Hello, is it possible to calculate some fields, which where stored in more than one database? For example: There're 3 databases which contains some values. Each db with some integer fields. Now I want to calculate in the 4'th db all the fields from the 3 dbs. Is it possible? Malte |

Well, I've done it. thanks for all your help. I compiled a version of db and it loaded into the POSE emulator! If I wrote a paragraph on how I installed cygwin etc, where do I send it to get included in the documentation? I was going to try and look at a few (seemingly) little items first. I want to add a few options to the date drop-down list, similar to the date drop-downs in the to-do program, specifically the ability to enter today's date without selecting the calender first. I'll give that a go. M4 installed OK, after a few tries. It is in the 'interpreter' section. I had to try a few download sites to get it, and then had to install directly from the internet, rather than download to my pc first. -----Original Message----- From: Scott Wallace [mailto:swa...@ee...] Sent: Monday, 2 September 2002 22:07 To: KANE Peter (CA) Subject: RE: [pilot-db-list] Help - compiling in windows/Cygwin No sweat Peter, I think your cygwin install is probably ok, but I really don't have a ton of experience with cygwin, so bear with me. m4 is a macro preprocessor tool, its likely to be a separate package. This means you'll need to run cygwin's setup tool and find it in that huge list to update your install. Its likely to be in "development tools" or "scripting languages" or something along those lines. In the future, if you want to copy a file (like multigen) to a new location or a new name, you can just make a symbolic link (like a shortcut in windows, only way better) like this: ln -s <source file> <new file> e.g. ln -s m68k-palmos-multigen multigen Also, if you want to capture the output of a program, you can use the '>' operator. so: make > make-output will dump all of make's stdout terminal output (probably most stuff) to the file make-output. if you see a bunch of stuff still get's printed out to the terminal, it's probably actually being sent on another channel (stderr) you can capture both stderr and stdout and send it to a file like this: make >& make-output if you do this, you really shouldn't see anything print out. Then you can open the file, look at it, and hopefully send it to me (if everything isn't fixed once you install m4) good luck -S On Sun, 2002-09-01 at 21:11, KANE Peter (CA) wrote: > > Thanks for helping me so far. Hello, I had build a database, which had some links and shortcuts to some other databases. Now I distributed these databases to some people. These people told me, that the links are defekt and they must manually relink it. My question. Are this links stored in this databases or in an external database? With best regards Malte |

The original compile problem was because I installed the update to SDK 4.0. After that change it compiled all files ok. After that things got worse again. The multigen file does not seem to have been setup correctly, or at least the ./configure did not set up 'makefile' correctly. The makefile entry for this is empty, ie MULTIGEN= but when I replaced it with the following: MULTIGEN=/usr/bin/m68k-palmos-multigen the make command went further, seemed to link all the files needed, but then stopped with an error message: m4: not found make: *** [ts-res] Error 127 It seems like it is looking for a file "m4" I can't find this one anywhere. Is there some extra cygwin command or configuration that I need to do? I tried not installing the update. No success. However, before I got this error message, when I did the ./configure, there was a warning configure: WARNING: "Unable to find multigen" what does this mean? I couldn't find multigen as an installation option for cygwin. I have managed to compile and make some simple palm apps from sample code, so things are almost working for db. -----Original Message----- From: Scott Wallace [mailto:swa...@my...] Sent: Thursday, 29 August 2002 21:34 To: KANE Peter (CA) Cc: 'pil...@li...' Here we are accessing a system structure which is frowned upon by palm. As I recall, they made this more difficult with the 4.0 update, and so some small sections of our code no longer compile. I think the easiest thing to do is reinstall the 4.0 sdk. good luck. -S This e-mail (including any attachments) may contain confidential or privileged information and is intended for the sole use of the person(s) to whom it is addressed.
