I finally got around to trying the 1.1 beta, and got exactly the same result as with 1.0.2 - Fatal Exception when I tried to make a new record. The PalmDesktop for Mac seems to load only a part of the databases. I can't to help you more that to tell you to test with Windows or Linux. Hello, I am trying to use Pilot-DB to store info on my music collection on my Sony CLIE PEG-SL10. I installed the latest version of Pilot-DB (1.0.2) and then installed one of the sample databases from the site (the Elements database from the "DataBases" page). When I tap on the datbase name in the Choose in Pilot-DB I get "Error: Unable to open database". I tried a few other databases from the DataBases page and I get the same error. I even tried creating my own database with DB-Tools (csv2pdb) and that doesn't seem to work either. I have also tried the "snapshot" build from the sourcepage download page and 0.3.3, they all have the same problem. I'm using Mac OS X 10.2.1 with Palm Desktop (version 4.0) on a Sony CLIE PEG-SL10 (running PalmOS 4.1). Thanks the help, Geoffeg |

Yes, the project would definately benefit from another programmer. One thing you should know is that at this point, DB is under an open source license, so if you plan to include its sourcecode as part of another project, that project will need to be freely available. There was talk at some time about releaseing the plugin interface under the LGPL license so you could link to the files without any restrictions on the licensing of your own application. I don't know if this license ever got put into the distribution, however. We also briefly discussed an API at one point and there was some talk about the possibility of releasing this under the LGPL as well. After you take a look at the code, I would be very interested in your ideas, and it would end up interfacing to another program. My only worry is that the API might look a lot like the driver interface. There isn't a real API to access to the database. But the database drivers use an object architecture, a "struct" must be declared and the fields initialized with data and function pointers. The driver structure: datasource.h The standard functions, not driver specific: io.h The DB driver functions: driver/db3.c But there is a lot of things to do on it. First when we change the driver structure the plugins begin uncompatible with the new version. Second the VFS support is not usefull and DB3 driver specific. I have uploaded binaries of the db 1.1 beta files (what is currently the cvs head). These are listed on the sourceforge web site under the heading 'snapshot' as: snapshot-prc.zip snapshot-plugins.zip included in the snapshot-prc.zip file are 4 prcs. uninstall.prc (remove your old version of db. Install and Run this first!) db-light.prc ( the light version ) db-mid.prc ( a middle weight version ) db-standard.prc ( full version minus handera support, I can't compile for this yet :( ) remember, this is a beta version. You should BACKUP your device before installing and testing it. My development time has been severely limited in the past few months, but I am hoping to continue at a somewhat slower pace. Let me know how this works. (Also, palm os 2.x users, I believe that this has fixed the incompatibilities of the 1.0.x versions. Please let me know if you have success) -Scott -- |

I believe that the problem exists only in the 1.0.1 - 1.0.2 releases. I will soon be posting the 1.1 beta release. I have a Palm Pilot Pro, PalmOS 2.0.5. I just did some Palm Pilot housecleaning & upgraded (finally) to DB 1.0.2. (I think I had 0.3.3 before, though I'm not sure & could be off on that.) Everything looked great - I didn't have any databases currently in use so I started a new one from scratch. It created fine, I set up a bunch of fields, all looked great, then I tried to create a record. Fatal Exception! I looked through the archive & bug reports and didn't see anyone else reporting this. Is it my ancient Palm Pilot? Has DB finally outgrown OS 2? I hope not! Is anyone successfully running 1.0.2 on this setup (Palm Pilot Pro, OS 2.0.5)? Anne |

Hi, I have run into the following problem: I've got a db containing 3 fields: field 0 Boolan field 1 Float field 2 Calculated If I use this expression in the calc field I get a "Operator unknown" message: (? (int %0)((sort 1 1)(+ %1 (ffr 2 -1))) 0) If I press OK again I get "Unexpected end". Does anybody know what's happening here? Is it that I try to get a field from a previous record who causes the error messages or is it simply impossible to use the "?" function this way? I am using RH 7.3 and prc-tools-2.2-1 I just had to add MULTIGEN=/usr/bin/m68k-palmos-multigen to src/Makefile and it compiled, and a quick browse of my installed DB showed no obvious problems. Since Scott Wallace made the MobileDB support, i never try to build one, and i modify the codes sources to support the new features of Pilot-DB dtabases, then perhaps there is bugs for the MobileDB support.
