Hi, I have a feature request: Each data base should have an optional password to open it. This way one could save passwords and ID's and bank data etc. One could also use a database as a diary - there are surely many possible uses for this. Maybe the source from the OpenSource program KeyRing could be used ( http://gnukeyring.sourceforge.net/ ). Thanks, Hans. |

Although the program works fine and is very stable, there are still a few display problems on my Sony Clie 625-C. a) If one does *NOT* choose the high-res mode: If a database is opened, then the nice standard slim font is not displayed, istead the (ugly) thick pixel-font is displayed. The database list, however, is displayed with the correct and nice thin font. b) if one does choose the high-res mode and then selects the large font in the high-res mode, the spacing between the databases in the database list ist wrong. Does anyone else have these problems? Hans |

Hello All, I just wanted to say that I have now regained the possibility to upload and download files (it seems to have been a problem with the Windows- Front side program ixplore, which is not freeware any more and therefore is not maintained in the freeware version - alone a reason to change! I have now switched to WS_FTP Pro which, since version 7.6 supports the SSH Protokoll). I have already updated the news ticker at the bottom of the site. So please let me know if there are any mistakes, or wrong links etc.. Long Live Pilot-DB!! Hans |

Copies : Date : Sun, 3 Nov 2002 14:11:02 +0100 Objet : DB 1.0.3 Hi Marc, just discovered your DB-tool. Looks very professional and after a while it is handy to use. A couple of questions : I'm trying to have a field contain a percentage. There is no way to format the field for percentages, or even a floating number with one decimal, when using a script. Once I define the field as "calculated" there is no way to format it. A few times, the Palm hung on a script, that had a wrong 'syntax'. Maybe this should be checked by the program, as the only way out was to reset the Palm. Where can I find the desktop application to go with the Palm one ? I looked at the sourceforge-site, but couldn't find it. Which kind of server do you use? UN*X or Windows? If you have a command line tools to make requests on your database you can redirect the output on db-tools to create your Pilot-DB database. An another way is to modify db-tools, I thought to do that but i have not enought time. > Hi there, > > Just a quick mail to say congratulations on such a useful piece of > software! I don't know what Marc is considering for this, but it might be easiest to create a function (or set of functions) to typecast string->integer (integer->string)... That sort of thing. At any rate, I'm glad it's under consideration. The when data is linked into a database it looses its type information and is basically stored as a string. Marc has added some of the code to help change this, but it is still some ways off. I don't expect to add it into the 1.1. beta, but if there is overwhelming interest, I will consider it. I've put a survey on the sourceforge site to see what kind of support there is. This feature is likely to get added to db eventually, but I will have to look into what type of changes this requires. -Scott Survey: https://sourceforge.net/survey/survey.php?group_id=621&survey_id=13740 |

Hi, Great product -- I find it becoming one of my most used Palm apps. I do have a problem, though: I'd like to link to another database that has: Action (String) Points (Integer) ------ ------ Go shopping 5 I'm using the same basic fields in my second database, the first as a "Link" field, and the second as a "Linked" field. So far so good. However, the problem comes when I setup in the second database a third "Calculated" field that adds all the "Points" entries up. Here's what the second database looks like: Action (Link) Points (Linked) Total (Calculated) ------ ------ ------- Go shopping 5 (sort 0 1)(+ %1 (ffr 1 -1 0)) However, the field editor won't let me add in the calculation; apparently it doesn't recognize the linked-in field as an integer and automatically disallows the calculation. Is there any workaround for this, or any plans to change this in a future version? I've created a simple database to keep track of grades for students. It has the following fields: Name Type =========================== Date Date Assignment String Total Points Integer Student1 #wrong Float Student1 grade Calculated Student2 #wrong Float Student2 grade Calculated Student3 #wrong Float Student3 grade Calculated I'm having trouble with the calculated field. I have written a script and rewritten, but with no luck. I have reread the manual under scripts, but can't see what I'm doing wrong. I simply want 100 - ((100 divided by "total points")* "Student1 #wrong") How should I write that script? Thanks for any help that anyone can share with me. mowestusa __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Y! John, thanks for the report. As you've found 1.1 is still in its very early beta phase (thanks for the test run though). The problems you've noticed are now fixed (I believe), and a new snapshot will be available soon. Hi all... Have just loaded the snapshot version of Pilot-DB onto my Handspring, running Palm OS 3.1H3. I've noticed the following odd behaviours with a database I've created in-situ (not using P-Desk yet)... 1. When displaying a set of records selected using a pre-defined filter on a note field, tapping on a record doesn't bring up the field edit screen. 2. When displaying a set of records selected using a pre-defined filter, the up/down scroll arrows don't appear and the buttons don't work preventing access to any records beyond the ten displayed - the reporting function yields the correct statistics. Hope I'm posting these comments in the right place. ...JohnH |
