All: Is there any documentation online about how to pre-program a global script (and attach it to a view) via the .ifo file mechanism? Also, the Front page of this project claims that version 1.1 is available, but all I can see on the download page is 1.1 beta2 from January 2003. Should I be looking somewhere else for the 1.1 stable release, or is that not out yet? If the linked field is an integer, then you might be able to do something like: (+ (int %1) 5) the problem is that linked fields are viewed as strings, not their original data type, so you need to somehow convert them back to their original type. I'd like to fix this problem at its root, but it would require a new database format, and it would be pretty hard to make it robust. -Scott |

I have downlaoded the db-tools and am trying to convert a PDB file to CSV. I keep getting and error saying that there is a currupt record in the db. I have changed the data in the db to just ascii and then to just integer. No matter what I change my data to I still receive the same error. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Brent |

To the developers (Mark,Scott,...): In the "format.txt" file it says, "char*" where strings are part of the fields. In fact this is "char[ ] (NUL-terminated)". My first attempt to coding decoding (before using a hex editor) was to really expect some kind of pointer there. After wondering what a pointer might be in a file and using a hex editor it soon became clear that "char *" is most probably the structure in memory. See you, Uwe |

Hi, as a pilot-db newbie I love pilot-db's open sourced approach doing databases on the Palm platform. Currently I'm using pilot-db on a daily basis (price database, about 700 articles). What pilot-db is IMHO missing is to search using a form entry. This form would be identical to that which you use when you input new data sets. The current search is ok for simple searches. But if you want to do more complex sequential searches you often get screwed by chosing the wrong search fields if you are in a hurry. In addition that new search form might present two check boxes at the right side of each line to switch on 'whole word' (w) and 'case sensitive search' (c). Enjoy! --Hans -- Blind support for Linux - http://www.leb.net/blinux/ |

Uwe Kloss has made an add-on to the Perl p5-Palm module which is coming along very nicely. Mike Meyer has a python script that synchs Pilot-DB bases to Postgresql (which can easily be adapted to other DBs). I've got a script that converts bases to sql format. DB-Editor is a Windows app that lets you edit Pilot-DB databases. Anybody else? Emmanuel |

Hi there, after some more cleanup there's a new version of the Pilot-DB add-on to the P5-Palm package. You can download it from: http://home.t-online.de/home/Uwe.Kloss/DB.pm Available from the same place is a PerlTk database viewer. http://home.t-online.de/home/Uwe.Kloss/PilotDBViewer.pl Any reports on bugs (or no bugs ;-) are welcome. Especially for other versions of Perl and Pilot-DB. It is tested on Perl 5.8.0, P5-Palm 1.3.0 and with Pilot-DB 1.0.3. As the add-on as well as the viewer are file oriented, support for field types that access multiple databases is limited/not implemented. Nevertheless if you don't mess around with the contents of those fields and just write them back to a file this schould work. Please consider both als alpha quality code and work in progress. Don't forget to make backup copies of your precious data before overwriting them. See you, Uwe |

What am > I missing? DB's plugins allow you to access many kinds of databases, such as those in the MobleDB format. The manual refers to DB's native format (DB3), and it's important to note that not all formats support all features. I think that in particular, MobileDB doesn't support multiple views. If you want to use multiple features, you will need to convert the database to the native (DB3) format. You can do this in the 'chooser' screen using the 'duplicate database' menu option. Make sure that the new database is created in the DB3 format, then you should be all set. > > There's one feature that I see in my demo version of MobileDB that > I like. I'm brand new to pilot-db, having just downloaded db-1_0_4.zip. I used the MobileDB plug-in and imported a database. It works great. I'm confused, though, about creating and changing "views". It looks like the documentation that came with the .prc is out of sync and the UI is not intuitive to me on this point. Chapter 6, "Utilizing Views", tells me I should be able to create a new view with the View Manager. When I'm in what I assume is the default view of my db, I tap "All Fields" in the upper right. I tap "Edit List Views..." and I get a form titled "DB:List Views" that looks like the scrren shot it "Accessing the View Manager", except there's no "new" button, just "edit" and "done". What am I missing? There's one feature that I see in my demo version of MobileDB that I like. It's that when I scroll horizontally, the leftmost column is not replaced. In other words, only columns 2 through n are scrolled, and in a circular fashion. That allows the user to keep the "name" of each record in view as the fields are scrolled. Is there a way to set up views in pilot-db to do that? I took a look for these issues in the archive before this posting. I apologize if I'm going over old ground. Thanks. Stuart Blood |

(seq (ffr 1 -1 'n/a') %1) (ffr 4 -1 0.0) 0.0) %3) sort by type then date, keep running totals per type. That is, check to see if the previous record is the same type as the current record (? (seq ffr 1 -1 'n/a') %1). If so, add its running total (ffr 4 -1 0.0) with the current cost (%3). Otherwise add the default value (0.0) to the current cost (%3) If you want to do both of these, then you'll probably want to use the same sort order for the scripts, (i.e. sort 1 1 0 1) or define two views with appropriate sortings for the calculated field you display. Otherwise, one running total might look a bit odd. hope this helps -Scott |

Hello, I love Pilot-DB, and I would love the answer to this question because it would give me the chance to make new databases that would be really cool. I want to know how to use a script to keep a running total going in the calculated field. Example: Field0 Date (A date field) Field1 Type (A list field) Field2 Description (A string field) Field3 Cost (A floating point field) Field4 Total (A calculated field that keeps a running total (or if possible a running total by type?)) I know that you need to use sort( ) and ffr. But the manual left me with unanswered questions. I guess I didn't understand the examples. If someone wouldn't mind explaining this to me I would appreciate it. mowestusa __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier.
