Wow, what more can I say. I just downloaded Pilot-DB last night and already have about 5 full-blown databases created. I used to use MobileDB and List. Each served their own purpose, but neither one is needed anymore. Being a techie geek, I really like this program! I have a few newbie questions though. Hope someone can help. 1. In filters, I want to show all records where %field not null. Can this be done and how? 2. I use DVD Profiler to track my current DVD collection. I'm exporting the collection to a CSV file and then importing it using DB-Editor. I'm pretty sure I know this answer, but will the views and filters that I create be overwritten each time I want to update my database using a new CSV file from the DVD Profiler? 3. In linked fields, using the DVD collection as my example, I've created a table for movie studios. When editing the linked field in my DVD collection, I realize that the studio I am looking for is not currently in the studio table. Is there any way to add it right from the DVD collection table, or do I need to exit the current database and go into the studio database to make the addition? 4. Is there anyway to change the column headings without changing the name of the field? I'd like descriptive names, but they just get cutoff when listing records. It would be nice to keep my descriptive field names but show abbreviations on the list view. 5. Do most people use filters or list views to show different record sets? Going back to my DVD example, I think it's cleaner to have a list view that runs a script which shows a filter (which lists all DVDs on my wish list). I would think most people without db experience would be unfamiliar with filters but almost all pda users are familiar with list views. 6. (And last question.) Referring to question 5, if list views are the way to go, is there an easy way to copy a list view? I have one table with about 30 fields. I'm only showing 3 fields in the list view. I'd like to have 3 separate list views defined. Each view would contain the same fields but would use a different filter. There has to be an easier way to do this other than recreating each list view. Thanks for your time and I'm really sorry about the length of this. I'm just really excited. This is way cool! Hi, I am new to pilot-db, and have only just downloaded and installed it. I'm = currently working my way through the documentation. I noticed in the docs that sony palms with 320x320 res (I have a clie = T615-C) should ask when the app is first started if you want to use tiny = fonts. This didn't happen when I ran DB for the first time, and was = wondering what the cause may be. Can anyone help? Regards, Craig. <cab...@do...> <ca_...@ya...> =20 |

Question 1 Is it possible to add an item in a list once the base has been created ? The list appears empty in the modification menu. Peux t-on ajouter un élément à une liste associée à un champ liste ? Celle ci appariat vide lorsqu'une opération de modification est initialisée ? Question 2 How to change the size of the columns in the main view (only 2 columns are displayed) ? Comment changer la taille des colonnes affichées dans la vue principale (seules 2 colonnes apparaissent) ? Thanks for your answer. Raoul Ros. |

Excellent program guys, one beef though. An About box frequently appears saying: Pilot-DB is developped by: Tom Dyas Marc Chalain Scott Wallace ... you don't have to tell the user every time they go into the program and open a database I hope this is a bug that causes this behaviour on my Clie, if intentional, it seems the height of arrogance You may say...it's open source, just re-compile it for yourself to get rid of the "About" That's even more arrogant, why should you assume that any user of the Pilot-DB program is able, or has time to do this. Hi, Pilot-DB crashes with the error DB (1.1.0B1) called SysFatalAlert with the message: "drivers/db3.c, Line:1453, out of Memory" after displaying an informative form after I've deleted some records in a plugin that I've written. Briefly, the plugin is run when a list of records is displayed. It inspects all records in the datasource and deletes those that it doesn't like. When it's finished, and just before exiting, it displays counts of the total number of records and the number of records deleted. The crash occurs after the the informative display is dismissed. I know this because the crash occurs after the first informative message if I try to display two informative messages in a row. The crash is independent of whether I call FrmUpdateForm(formID_ListView, updateChangeView); before displaying the informative message. The crash is contingent upon what is deleted. If the plugin deletes no records, there is no crash, and if the plugin deletes ALL records there is no crash. The database from which records are being deleted is small: 12KB in size, and the handheld lists free space as being 7.5M of 7.7M so I don't understand why pilot-db is complaining about being out of memory. I'm using pilot-db from sourceforge CVS taken today (12 May 2003). I'm running platform41_Vx_Dbg_enUS.rom on pose under Linux. So, is this a bug? I don't believe that I'm doing anything wrong because I'm not doing anything different from what happens in src/list.c when it deletes all records. I can send a tarball of my plugin if that would be useful. The source code is included below. The location of the crash is denoted with the comment CRASH OCCURS RIGHT HERE. Thanks, Dick /* Begin */ #include <PalmOS.h> #include "plugin.h" #include "db.h" #include "enum.h" #include "enum-DeleteUnseen.h" /* Return true if at least one boolean or integer field exists and if no boolean field is true and no integer field is > 0. */ Boolean NotTicked(DataSource * source, UInt16 recnum) { DataSourceSchema schema = source->schema; UInt16 i; DataSourceGetter getter; void * row_data; Char datum[STRING_MAXCHAR]; Boolean unticked = true; Boolean notfound = true; source->ops.LockRecord(source, recnum, false, &getter, &row_data); i = 0; while ( i < schema.numFields && unticked ) { if (schema.fields[i].type == FIELD_TYPE_BOOLEAN) { notfound = false; ConvertFieldToString( source, &getter, row_data, i, datum, STRING_MAXCHAR); /* if (getter.GetBoolean(source, i)) { */ if (datum[0] == '1') { unticked = false; } } if (schema.fields[i].type == FIELD_TYPE_INTEGER) { notfound = false; ConvertFieldToString( source, &getter, row_data, i, datum, STRING_MAXCHAR); /* if (getter.GetInteger(source, i) > 0) { */ if (StrCompare(datum, "0") != 0) { unticked = false; } } i ++; } source->ops.UnlockRecord(source, recnum, false, row_data); if (notfound) unticked = false; return unticked; } void MyCallBack( void *plugData) { UInt16 recnum = 0; UInt16 totalcount = 0; UInt16 deletecount = 0; char strtotalcount[10], strdelcount[10]; DataSource * source = Plug_GetSource(plugData); if( source->ops.Capable( source, DS_CAPABLE_LISTVIEW_FILTER)) { source->ops.SetFilter( source, dbNoFilter, false, NULL ); } FrmAlert(alertID_AboutBox); while (1) { if (! source->ops.Seek(source, &recnum, 0, dmSeekForward)) break; if (NotTicked(source, recnum)) { deletecount ++; totalcount ++; source->ops.DeleteRecord(source, recnum); } else { totalcount ++; } recnum ++; } StrIToA( strtotalcount, totalcount); StrIToA( strdelcount, deletecount); if (deletecount > 0) { FrmUpdateForm(formID_ListView, updateChangeView); } FrmCustomAlert(alertID_SummaryBox, strtotalcount, strdelcount, ""); /* CRASH OCCURS RIGHT HERE */ FrmCustomAlert(alertID_SummaryBox, strtotalcount, strdelcount, ""); } void MainPlug(void *plugData) { Plug_SetDriver(plugData, NULL); Plug_SetAboutAlert(plugData, alertID_AboutBox); /*Plug_SetAction(plugData, ActionRunWhenListViewOpen, MyCallBack);*/ Plug_SetAction(plugData, ActionRunInListViewSelector, MyCallBack); } /* The end. */ |

Hi All, I'm working on a specialty plugin, and I want to access values in pilot-db records. I have declared DataSourceGetter getter; When I use getter.GetBoolean(source, i) I get rubbish. Ditto for getter.GetString. But, when I use ConvertFieldToString( source, &getter, ...) I get the correct representations of data in the record. My question is: why can't I sue getter.GetBoolean, getter.GetString and getter.GetInteger? Thanks, Dick Repasky |

Hi, I wonder which is the last version of Pilot-DB to download: version 1.1 Beta is dated 2003-01-16 even though it is a higher number than 1.0.4 (dated 2003-03-19). Thanks, Alexis -- Powered by Debian GNU/Linux - http://www.debian.org - |

You're not the only one to report this. Others have already done so over the last few days. May I humbly suggest to the developers that there is something wrong with the pdb2csv application? To my dismay, I am getting an error message of "<dbfile>: record is corrupt" when using the pdb2csv program. I had the pilot-db application give me an error message this weekend, but aside from corrupting a single record, it didn't seem to damage the database, which is relatively small. Is there any way to repair the database? I have tried the latest version of pdb2csv. I am currently running pilot-db v1.02I (19 Jun 2002). -- Jeff |

I'm having a problem compiling the source for db, which I believe is due to a problem with the path to the sdk. I think my problem is caused by my environment and isn't specific to db, but I'm hoping it's ok to ask about it here. The failure is shown here: db$ make /usr/bin/m68k-palmos-gcc -Wall -Werror -O2 -g -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti -DGLOBAL _ACCESS -include "config.h" -c main.c main.c: In function `PilotMain': main.c:648: `sysNotifyVolumeMountedEvent' undeclared (first use in this function) Up until now I've been dabbling in PalmOS development using sdk v3.5. (I hadn't installed the upgrade 1.) I have a symbolic link "sdk" to sdk-3.5. My makefiles typically have the -palmos3.5 option in the compiler command line, and I've been avoiding any v4 features in the applications I've been building up until now. I'm using prc-tools version 2.2. I recognized the offending function call in the error message above as new to v4. So I downloaded and installed sdk-4. I updated the symbolic link. (From within the .../palmdev directory: rm -f sdk; ln -s sdk-4 sdk) From my db project directory I ran "./configure", then "make". If I remove the "sdk" symbolic link I get the same compiler error. If it were using the link to locate the sdk, I would have thought the error would have been different. If I modify the makefile and add the -palmos4 the compiler reports "No genuine PalmOS.h found". If I temporarily rename directory sdk-3.5, I also get the "No genuine PalmOS.h found" error. It's apparent that the compiler is looking within sdk-3.5 for includes. What am I doing wrong? An unrelated, and probably irrelevant question: why the -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti compiler options in the makefile? Those only apply to C++ files don't they? Thanks for any help. Stuart |

This file appears to be corrupted. It will cause memory conflct on the Palm; your DB-Editor cannot open it. |

I have a DB-format .pdb that I'm trying to convert with pdb2csv. pdb2csv reports "record is corrupt", but it doesn't tell me which record, or give me any other indication of the problem. I've verified that DB can read and edit the db, and I've hot- synced to make sure things are up-to-date. I created a small test db using all the data types that I use in my real db (string, date, boolean, int), so that I can be sure that I understand the format of the .ifo file. I'm able to convert *that* db just fine. My command line is > pdb2csv seeds.pdb seeds.csv seeds.ifo seeds.ifo is format date %m/%d/%y title "Seeds" field "Crop" string field "Variety" string field "Family" string field "Indoor" date field "Outdoor" date field "Parents" string field "Source" string field "Year 1" integer field "Box" string field "Maturity" integer field "Planted 2003?" boolean field "Notes" string field "Order?" boolean csvfile "seeds.csv" Any tips on how to debug this problem? Norman Walsh is writing some perl based conduits for pilot-db. jpilot-db is written in Java. I've misplaced the author's name at the moment. Brad Barclay mentioned that jsyncmanager is a syncing tool written in Java - I don't know whether anyone has written a Java conduit for it yet or not. -- Tcl - The glue of a new generation. <URL: http://wiki.tcl.tk/ > Larry W.
