I'm considering a Linux application to synch data from a DB file into a Postgresql database. I need to know what the parameters are for the UniqueID that is part of the PDB file format. Does this UniqueID ever change for a given record? Is this the accepted means of uniquely identifying a record for synch purposes? Cordially, Scott |

I'd like to suggest adding a new field type (rather than breaking compatibility with old database files) of time with seconds. I'm working on a time logging situation and must be able to sort the records accurately by date + time (thus my previous request for sorting on more than one field). If the time is not granular enough, it may put tasks out of order. One second is granular enough but one minute is not. Cordially, Scott |

It would be VERY nice if the time selection had a "NOW" button. SmartLists (formerly ThinkDB) does and I use it a lot in my time log database. Cordially, Scott |

I am using the Pilot-DB to keep track of materials I use in my business. I am using field zero for the name of the material and then use the subsequent fields for cost, mark up, retail price, etc... I would very much like to have the Materials be automatically alphabetized. I would be happy to change the way I have it set up if I would have to to accomplish it. Is there a way? |

If you are using a version of DB with plugins you can use the report plugin. This will let you select a field and for a numeric field it will tell you the highest and lowest values, the average value and (what you want) the total value. This will of course be the entire total and will not help if you want to keep all your expenses in one database, but (for example) get the total at the end of the tax year (you could have a separate database for each tax year and if short of memory run the old years on POSE. For an accumulating total field you need to use a script (calculated field). This would be something like the following: (sort 0 1) (+ %5 (ffr 6 -1 0)) [Quick Translation sort on the first field (e.g., date) in ascending order, then add the current records mileage/expenses (here field 5) to the accumulating total field (here Field 6) of the previous record. If there is no previous record enter a default value of 0. This fuller translation of this code is available from the manual that came with your download or is available on the DB website; Chapter 9 Scripts: Inter-Record Sripts. Obviously you need to do the above separately for totalling your mileage and expense totals. Neither scripts nor the report plugin with work on fields linked from another database, becasue the values in all link(ed) fields are converted to strings. Apparently you can convert the linked string to a float, but I have not got it to work, so I just link that field and then have a float field into which I type the number in the linked field. I do not know of any websites, I worked out how to use the script (after reading the manual by doing a search on the DB Mailing List. Since discovering the report plugin I have removed the Total scripts from my databases. hi 2 all ;- i bought a new tungsten and now i see that some features of the 1.1 Beta 2 version of 20 january aren't supported. 1. 5 way nav button don't function in any way 2. bool fields aren't shown on the list screen, on the detailed view everything is shown 3. the drop down box for the view chooser is shifted to the left when the name of the view is longer than 5 letters, list view names with 5 or less letters are normal right aligned ... my question: is the version 1.0.4 of march 19 2003 better for the tungsten ? so long, ciao hermann |
