Say I have ancestor x on my database and you have ancestor y. Y could then be a hyperlink on my side and x would be a hyperlink on your side. I am not sure it will be a good candidate in that it will only handle small data bases. I did get a 25meg to install, but it will not update it. My 25meg is only about 60K. I know several people that have database 2-3 times as many has I have. This discussion has come up a few times before and I have put a lot of thought into it. The idea of linking PGV installations has a lot of merit but there are a lot of things that need to be considered before this can be accomplished, such as caching, privacy, and remote authentication. See the following thread from the discussion forums for more information on what will probably come in the future of PGV: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=3D1205879&forum_id=3D185= 166 --John =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D John Finlay PhpGedView Project Manager http://www.phpgedview.net ya...@us... =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... Hi Ken, There was some recent discussion in the Open discussion forum about getting PGV to work with Postgres: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=3D1195814&forum_id=3D185= 165 The short answer is the PGV v3.2 will not work with Postgres because there are several MySQL specific database queries. The long answer is that PGV uses the PEAR:DB database abstraction to work with the databases and we are working to convert these MySQL specific queries to support for other RDBMS like Postgres and SQLite in v3.3. You can get an alpha version of 3.3 with many of these changes from the Source Forge project page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpgedview/ Thanks, --John =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D John Finlay PhpGedView Project Managaer http://www.phpgedview.net ya...@us... =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... I couldn't find a contact for web site problems. If it is there it isn't obvious. I just registered my site and was dumped back to the previous page. I reloaded my browser to make the name show up and it was there twice. I thought I'd reload it again, and now it is listed 3 times.... Lowther. One listing is enough. I really only did register once. Something must have been cached that kept resubmitting the info. Sorry about that. Ken |

In the php.ini file you should set: max_execution_time =3D 120 memory_limit =3D 128M =20 You will have to restart apache in order for these changes to take affect. On a decent machine (ie Pentium 3 > 1Ghz, 512 MB ram), these settings should be sufficient to run your 30MB gedcom file. =20 Something else you might try is to setup Apache and MySQL on your computer at home where you will have more control and see if you can get it running there. =20 I know that PGV will work with a 30MB gedcom because I recently installed one at www.PGVHosting.com <http://www.pgvhosting.com/> .=20 =20 Something else that has caused v3.2.1 to slow down is a problem in the editgedcoms.php file. See this forum thread for more information about whether this could be the cause of some of your problems: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=3D1202168&forum_id=3D185= 166 =20 Good Luck, --John =20 =20 ________________________________ From: php...@li... I had many problems the first time, but they were related to premature time outs. I finally found all of the places to change the time limit and it loaded using MySQL. It never did work with the index option. I uploaded it using a previous version. I upgraded to the current version, and also upgraded to PHP 5, then because of severe performance problems (up to 2 minutes to just login) deleted php5 and reinstalled 4. My login time dropped back to 12-13 seconds. I have been lax in uploading the current genealogy file, but the online one is defiantly out dated. I will try a small one. Hi Len, I'm not sure why you are having the login troubles. They could be unrelated to the gedcom size. Have you tried testing it with a smaller gedcom to see if you still have some of these problems? There are two ways to update a gedcom that is already in the system. The first is to use the upload gedcom page and upload the gedcom again. Make sure that the new gedcom has the same file name as the old one. Then reimport the gedcom. The second way is to use FTP to upload the gedcom, replacing the old gedcom. Then reimport the gedcom by clicking on the import link in the mangage gedcoms and edit privacy page. Were you able to successfully import this gedcom the first time you uploaded it? Hi John I have done some testing bewteeen 3.1 and 3.2 - I have loaded a new set of MySQL tables for ver 3.2 (using the same GEDCOM file). Lists etc display at more or less the same speed as with the old version, but if I run editgedcoms.php there is a delay of at least a minute whilst the page tries to refresh. Also, when trying to view pedegree or descendency charts, things run VERY slow and the browser then seems to become unresponsive. I have noticed that my default pedigree chart misses out the fourth geneartion on version 3.2 for some reason. http://www.phethean.co.uk/test/pedigree.php - newly installed version 3.2 http://www.phethean.co.uk/trees/pedigree.php - "live" version 3.1 I have tried this from XP SP2 using IE6 and FireFox 1.0 Regards, Stuart -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... HI I have used phpgedview for a couple of years, In hopes getting under 10 sec performance per screen I switched to php 5. What a Difference. I was able get responses on my internal 100mhz network as quick as 45 Sec. I switched back to php 4 and was able to get 10-30 sec responses, much better. i have used 3.1 and 3.2 and could not tell any difference in speed. I do have a small gedcom database, not a multi million record one like lds.org or ancestor.com, with only 65K records. I think the culprit is the PHP interpreter. I use gallery also and it runs about the same speed, although that performance is supposed to be because of the number of albums and pictures (500, 15,000). if I could get a 50Ghz server with 50Ghz memory, then software speed would not matter. Hi Stuart, =20 This error means that somebody was trying to send a message and the message they entered looked similar to an SQL command so the message was not allowed. This is a security check to make sure that SQL Injections are not able to get through. However the check is pretty liberal and as you can see it sometimes messes up. I have tightened up this check if version 3.2.1 so it shouldn't happen as often as it did in 3.1. =20 --John =20 =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D John Finlay PhpGedView Project Manager www.phpgedview.net <http://www.phpgedview.net/>=20 ya...@us... =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =20 =20 ________________________________ From: php...@li... If I use the original config files it all starts up ok, but I don't want to loose any subscriber data in the mysql database! ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________ Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /files/home2/phethean/test/authentication_mysql.php on line 235 ERROR:DB Error: already exists SQL:CREATE TABLE pgv_users (u_username VARCHAR(30) NOT NULL, u_password VARCHAR(255), u_fullname VARCHAR(255), u_gedcomid TEXT, u_rootid TEXT, u_canadmin ENUM('Y','N'), u_canedit TEXT, u_email TEXT, u_verified VARCHAR(20), u_verified_by_admin VARCHAR(20), u_language VARCHAR(50), u_pwrequested VARCHAR(20), u_reg_timestamp VARCHAR(50), u_reg_hashcode VARCHAR(255), u_theme VARCHAR(50), u_loggedin ENUM('Y','N'), u_sessiontime INT(14), u_contactmethod VARCHAR(20), PRIMARY KEY(u_username)) ERROR:DB Error: already exists SQL:CREATE TABLE pgv_messages (m_id INT NOT NULL auto_increment, m_from VARCHAR(255), m_to VARCHAR(30), m_subject VARCHAR(255), m_body TEXT, m_created VARCHAR(255), PRIMARY KEY(m_id)) ERROR:DB Error: already exists SQL:CREATE TABLE pgv_favorites (fv_id INT NOT NULL auto_increment, fv_username VARCHAR(30), fv_gid VARCHAR(10), fv_type VARCHAR(10), fv_file VARCHAR(100), PRIMARY KEY(fv_id)) ERROR:DB Error: already exists SQL:CREATE TABLE pgv_blocks (b_id INT NOT NULL auto_increment, b_username VARCHAR(100), b_location VARCHAR(30), b_order INT, b_name VARCHAR(255), PRIMARY KEY(b_id)) ERROR:DB Error: already exists SQL:CREATE TABLE pgv_news (n_id INT NOT NULL auto_increment, n_username VARCHAR(100), n_date INT, n_title VARCHAR(255), n_text TEXT, PRIMARY KEY(n_id)) Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /files/home2/phethean/test/authentication_mysql.php on line 210 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /files/home2/phethean/test/authentication_mysql.php:235) in /files/home2/phethean/test/session.php on line 313 Best wishes, Stuart __________________________________ Stuart Phethean Hampshire, UK Family web Pages: http://www.phethean.co.uk <http://www.phethean.co.uk/> _____________________________________ -- No virus found in this outgoing message. However, since I wrote the query, I > find other .jpg files created this way also have a problem on the web, > but not on the desktop. Older files are OK. Any ideas? Did you use the "lossless rotation" option in PSP after scanning your=20 pictures? I suspected PSP, so I looked on their forum site and it seems=20 using this tool can cause corrupted image files. My advice is to try using something like Gimp instead of PSP. It's a=20 superb bit of software. I've only ever used it on Linux, but there is a=20 Windows version if you don't have access to a Linux box. Here's a=20 link: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/ =46rom the FAQ I see that there are two packages to install - the "GTK+=20 Runtime Environment" and "The Gimp installers". I think you need to=20 install GTK+ before installing The Gimp.
