I've just started out on my family history and have been using phpGedView for a few weeks but am now wondering how best the use the sources facility. It's possible to quote the same source many times in many areas. For instance, if I have an image of a census return, this could be a source for each person's date of birth, their occupation and residence. Where do I cite this source? It's possible to place a reference against the family, against the residence, census and occupation of each individual but I'll have sources all over the place. Similarly, a birth certificate can be referenced as a source within the birth event for that individual or the individual or both. Does anyone know of any guidance notes or perhaps a model site which I could look at? -- Iain M Lee ############################################### This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner using the f-prot AV engine and is believed to be clean. ############################################### |

I upgraded to the Newest version of phpgedview, and php5 I Reinstalled the gedcom file. I had to manually locate each occurance of 60 second time outs (What kind of machines y'all got than can do this work in 60Minutes, let alone 60 Secs? The initial page would then fail, but I found were the gedconconfig.php had been reset to 60s. I set it to 0 and it now does lists in under 300s, and some pedigrees in as little as 20s. The performance improvements are prety good. It does this using the index typ database. when I try mysql it keeps complaining of a lot of missing db extensions. I don't know what it is talking about, but I will find out. It did convert the users (authenticate) files with sql extensions. Unless it missed one,... Any way Thanks John for the hard work. Hi Rodney, You might want to check and make sure that the ufpdf directory and files have Read permissions set. They should have the correct permissions, but you never know. I can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't be able to find the file. You could try changing line 33 to use the full path to the file instead of the relative path. Hi Dennis, If you use the "Add Gedcom" option, then you need to enter the path to the file on your host server. This means that the file needs to be uploaded to the server via FTP or some other way. So if you uploaded the gedcom file to your home directory so that it looks something like this: /home/users/username/gedcom.ged /home/users/username/public_html/phpGedView Then you would enter "../../gedcom.ged" into the gedcom path field. You could also enter the absolute path "/home/users/username/gedcom.ged" If you are running a windows server, you should use / instead of \ or you will have to escape it and enter \\. For example: C:\\Documents and Settings\\username\\My Documents\\gedcom.ged C:/Documents and Settgins/username/My Documents/gedcom.ged --John John Finlay PhpGedView Project Manager http://www.phpgedview.net -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... Hi Keith, The Welcome Page and MyGedView pages are generated by the database, specifically the pgv_blocks table. It looks like the function names have been corrupted and you will need to clean out the table or erase the blocks.dat file. There were some problems with the updated blocks code that have been fixed in the CVS. I plan on releasing beta 3 later today which will have these fixes in it. --John John Finlay PhpGedView Project Manager http://www.phpgedview.net -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... Yes I have "Contact Support User" set to me & "Support Method" set to "internal messaging with emails". I do get emails when they click on "For technical support or genealogy questions, please contact Dennis". Maybe it's my spam filter, I will try setting it to an email address with no filter. I know if the "from: & to:" is the same most spam filters will delete it. If anyone knows what the "From" is I can manually exclude it from the spam filter. I need to start packing to move, so I might not be online for 1-2 weeks. Thanks for all the help. Did you set both contact method AND support method on "internal messaging with emails"? It is working fine at my page that way, I always receive emails. Hi Dennis, concerning gedcom I'm afraid I can't help you. Concerning getting emails: there is an option somewhere, I think somewhere in the config, where you can define whether you want to be contacted solely through your website (internal message, appears in "MyGedview") or both internal AND email. I have had problem with Legacy gedcoms importing into other program correctly, usually with notes in the event field and detail text in my sources. I don't know if that could be the problem? Dennis |

Hi John, The closest thing to an Ahnentafel Report is the Ancestry chart. There are plans to add these reports to the reports menu in a future version. Part of the delay is that these reports are very text heavy and make providing translations in different languages harder to do. But we hope to add them soon. --John =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D John Finlay PhpGedView Project Manager ya...@us... http://www.phpgedview.net =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... Yes, but it requires adding a custom block by editing the = functions_block.php file. Just thought I drop a line about a problem - I must admit of my own making - that I came across when taking a "look" at the phpGedView 3.3 Alpha. I suspect one or two others may experience the same if they, like me, are using MySQL and test new versions of the software alongside the "live" version to compare and contrast. I'm sorry if this is a known problem already reported, and please excuse the misuse of any technical phraseology. Does the module authentication_mysql.php module for 3.3 read/write to a MySQL database differently that for earlier version? After having installed (in a separate directory in my webspace) and configured 3.3, I tried to enter new users using the "older" version (3.2.1) that is currently "live". Although it was indicated that the addition had been successful, an SQL error message appeared at the top of the "useradmin" page and no entry appeared in the list. [What was worse, if I tried to edit any current users details, they were "deleted" from the user list - as I have over 100 signed-up user this was a potential catastrophe.] However, after much trial and error I have found that directly replacing the "old" authentication_mysql.php file with that from the 3.3 Alpha version has rectified the problem. I hope that this is of some help. Regards Nic Wilson n.t...@sh... Wharfedale & Craven Genealogical Study www.wharfegen.co.uk |
