Hi Philip, In general, you're right, of course. The strength of the tool is only as strong as the passphrase used to protect the data. What Juergen may have had in mind was that a command-line tool may be = used to create a file with all the database entries decrypted. Such a file = would b a real security risk, since deleting the file by normal means still = leaves the data floating around on the disk if you know where to look. The PasswordSafe application goes through some lengths to ensure that no = more data than is absolutely needed in a given moment is actually decrypted. Rony, Thanks very much for that info, I think it will come in very handy. In relation to the other comments, I agree that I don't see why a command-line option should make it any more or less secure. I have for some time tried to impress upon people the importance of choosing a strong combination pass phrase by referring to the following link which comes complete with source code. I have only tried it on v1 and it worked a treat, essentially you supply a dictionary and it tries it against a password safe. http://members.aol.com/jpeschel3/PasswordSafeCracker.zip Nigel... |

I though the main component of security lies in the choice of key, not in the specific algorithm. After all, decrypting the database by starting pwsafe is also "easy" if you have the right passphrase; I do not see why a command-line decryption utility *that requires you to know the passphrase* is less secure. Hi, PasswordSafe 2.06 is available for download. This release has some nice new features, and a few minor bug fixes: Bugs fixed in 2.06: [1026630] Autotype now works correctly when "lock database on minimize" active. [1028394] Export to text function works again. [1003780, 1026335] Autotype support for AltGr [1039214, 992178] PasswordSafe can now be configured to ignore the Esc key or to exit when it is pressed (Manage->Options->Misc). New Features for 2.06: [958343] PasswordSafe can now be configured to lock automatically after a predefined idle time. [998966] In an "autotype" string, \d followed by up to 3 digits will cause the program to pause that many milliseconds between characters from that moment onwards. [1032149] Adding an entry with a group or item selected will fill the Group field with that currently selected (previously, this only worked on right-click on group item). The URL for this release is: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=41019&package_id= 33169 (http://tinyurl.com/4w439) MD5 checksums: 563dbe8777204149ce81bef5313522b6 pwsafe-2.06.exe 048e9adaeaa49cc0f55aa4bec8faafae pwsafe-2.06-bin.zip 951831873cbdf46358baabf226f08ce2 pwsafe-2.06-src.zip Note that this release also includes PGP/GPG signature files of the respective packages. These were signed with my SourceForge account key, keyid FA175557, key fingerprint = FF77 379D D46D DAA6 6182 B452 1D79 5A91 FA17 5557, available from a PGP keyserver near you (such as http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xFA175557). Enjoy, Rony P.S. If anyone is willing and able to help port 2.x to PocketPC, please let me know (https://sourceforge.net/users/ronys) |

All, I'm trying to resolve a couple of bugs in the autotype code that relate to how it handles not US/english keyboard. Most particular German keyboards. I would like to get this fixed and tested but don't have access to a German keyboard. So if anybody with a German, or other countries, keyboard could help out with a quick test. I have enclosed a TEST, I repeat TEST, version of Password Safe which will hopefully address these bugs. This release has some nice new features, and a few minor bug fixes: Bugs fixed in 2.05: =================== [1007283] Database no longer accidentally erased if modified and then screen lock kicks in before save. Hi, The latest version of PasswordSafe, 2.04, has a new feature, "lock on workstation lock", that causes problems with unsaved data changes in the database. Specifically, if you change (modify, add or delete entries) the database, and the program "locks" before you saved your changes, the changes will be lost. In the worst case, if you save without unlocking the database, the *entire* database will be lost. Until we fix this (in the next release), the workaround is simple: If you use the "lock database on workstation lock" (enabled by default), then enable Manage->Options->Misc->Save database immediately after Edit or Add. Thanks to the users who've reported this. Cheers, Rony |

Then use arrows, Enter or App key (between Win and Ctrl on the right side, for menu). Global hot key may present, but there should be a possibility to disable it. If all applications will have hot keys, keyboard may be dangerous :) With best regards, Ivan Vanyushkin. |

I've always used a hot key to instantly bring up PWS, but rather than rely on each program to institute its own hot key, I rely on a utility called WinKey that allows you to configure which hot key you want to invoke which program. It uses the Windows Logo key in combination with any other key(s) as shortcuts for pretty much any command line you could type. You can even add calling arguments. For example I use Win+P to bring up my personal password collection, but I use Win+Ctrl+P to open my workplace passwords. WinKey is a free download that can be found at: http://www.download.com/3000-2344-913626.html ~Mike -----Original Message----- From: pas...@li... [mailto:pas...@li...] On Behalf Of pas...@li...
