Hello Is there any way to make the auto type entry to pause/wait for a while without effecting the type speed? I am having some difficulty for web sites who display their authentication sequence across several pages. I tried something like \u\n\d999\d999\p\n\d999\d999\<some other auth info here>\n but it takes ages to complete the sign-on and the sign-on may fail depending on the vagaries of the connection, say, if it takes longer than 2 secs for the subsequent pages to load. Thanks |

Hi, This is to announce the release of PasswordSafe version 3.09. This is a minor release - some annoying bugs have been fixed, some minor features have been added or improved upon. Thanks to DK his work on this release, zcecil for his fix, and to the folks who tested pre-release versions, especially mycroft237. Bugs fixed in 3.09 [1748665] Number of passwords to remember (password history) can now be set to more than 99 by typing rather than only by spinbox. [] A note on possible problems with the autotype functionality and some 3rd party popup-blockers. Thanks to mrttoo for the heads-up. [] Protect user from losing entries in case of non-unique uuids in read database. [] Compare fixed so that 'X' indicating differences are in the correct columns and data copied to clipboard ends in CRLF not just LF [1739364] Window location issue fixed [1620423, 1754189] Focus on search text in Find Dialog - thank to zcecil for the fix for this one. [1738477, 1630400] A version for Windows98 is now installed by the installer on machines running Windows98. This version is NOT part of the binaries in the zip file. [] The installer will detect and notify the user if attempts to install on an unsupported version of Windows (95 & ME). [1735290] Configuration file works with non-ASCII user and host names. [1733911] File mode encryption/decryption (-d/-e) works again [1743706] Fix random showing of user and passwords if started in silent mode. [] Fix Edit and View in main menu not being reset after open after close [1727871] Found items remain highlighted if another entry selected - note that found items now ddisplayed in bold font rather than highlighted. [1728612] Column sort arrows, in Flattened List mode, correctly removed [1728945] Importing a subset of text data now fixed [1728945, 1741787] Version 2.x databases now read correctly [1733740] '-s' option no longer causes sporadic display of passwords in tree view. [1752318] Fixed duplicate/mislabeled columns problem in list view New Features for 3.09 [1739979] Add URL column to flattened list [1732198] It's now possible to override the username and hostname used to load and store preferences, as well as specify an alternate preferences file, via new command line options. [] Implement "Advanced" option for Find [1751451] Add extra warning when deleting entire group, including the number of entries that will be deleted. Changes to Existing Features in 3.09 [1732163] Date/time displayed throughout in the users "Short Date" format. The U3 version will be available soon from http://software.u3.com/Product_Details.aspx?productId=294&Selection=7 (Owners of the U3 version are invited to contact me for an update) The release may be downloaded from https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=41019&package_id=3316 9&release_id=523268 (http://preview.tinyurl.com/2zg9gt) SHA-1 checksums: 4ee448c758d5608acc0803fc1c9ef029acdddf25 pwsafe-3.09.exe 8f136947a83273cf3f014ec99bfe28878a27282e pwsafe-3.09-bin.zip c28b44c7fca2e5ff4b8b5297ee4925b7cec5b791 pwsafe-3.09-src.zip Note that this release also includes PGP/GPG signature files of the respective packages. Hi, Glen and guys on the Java port are pleased to present PasswordSafeSWT 0.6 for download. While still needing to catchup some important UI changes, this significant release adds v3.0 file format support, Mac Universal binary support, and much broader support for various Linux display managers. Many thanks to Neil Greenwood for some nice work on the Tree layout, and to Jim Kalafut for providing lots of testing assistance for the new v3 file format. You can download it from https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=41019&package_id=1649 07&release_id=478850 (http://preview.tinyurl.com/ykr55q) Note: The Java port is still beta, and mainly of interest to developers and people who want to try PasswordSafe on non-Windows platforms. Hi, Since the last couple of releases had a few annoying problems, I've decided to pre-release new versions to subscribers of the passwordsafe-users mailing list. If you're not interested in trying out pre-releases, just unsubscribe from this mailing list. (passwordsafe-announce is the list where formal releases are announced.) PasswordSafe 3.05.02 fixes some of the problems that came up with 3.05, specifically: [1606265, 1609291] No longer terminates after edit when username and/or hostname starts with a digit. [1609759] "Show Password in display list & tree" setting now persistent across application exit. [1608191] Tree view's state is now preserved across timed lock and when starting with '-s' flag. [1612881, 1577505] Notes now appear consistently. No new features have been added. If you wish to try this release, you may find it in: http://passwordsafe.sf.net/tmp/pwsafe-3.05.02-bin.zip (zipped executables) or http://passwordsafe.sf.net/tmp/pwsafe-3.05.02.exe (installer) sha1 hash values are: 75b2797157124089de4ce1cd1ac8e4bdd1ef4e85 pwsafe-3.05.02.exe b5581048cfdf03af3c16621c23ba878007516bca pwsafe-3.05.02-bin.zip Please drop me a note if you've any problem with this release. If all goes well, I'll release it "formally" in a few days. Cheers, Rony |

Hi, PasswordSafe 3.05 was the first release built with a new development environment. As such, there were a couple of mistakes that were made that caused the installation to fail for some users. This re-release of PasswordSafe 3.05 fixes those mistakes, and a couple of other minor bugs that have crept in. No new functionality has been added. Specifically, the bugs fixed in this re-release are: [1606026] Missing manifest files added, application no longer requires vcredist_x86.exe [1606237, 1606232] View preferences now work correctly [1605389] Read-only flag now updated correctly Thanks to all the users who have reported the bugs in a constructive manner, and helped track down the causes rather quickly. HUGE thanks to DK, who has put in long hours searching for workarounds, fixes, and general moral support. In order to try to avoid repeating re-releasing, I'm going to change the release procedure a bit: Starting with the next release, I will pre-announce the release on the passwordsafe-users mailing list. Folks who are interested in testing the release are encouraged to do so. Once the release has been pre-tested, I'll make it into a "formal" release and announce it on passwordsafe-announce as well. The release may be downloaded from: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=41019&package_id=3316 9&release_id=467694 (http://preview.tinyurl.com/yzgcvq) SHA-1 checksums: 789d57dbd87d32f7f5f9700c94cdb30572416d8e pwsafe-3.05.exe 2a80979383243e5b28c34890e4724599815f33d7 pwsafe-3.05-bin.zip f2c99469722375db05ffc24af135e7c7937129d8 pwsafe-3.05-src.zip Note that this release also includes PGP/GPG signature files of the respective packages. Hi, It seems that some folks are having trouble running PasswordSafe 3.05. The reason is that we switched to a newer version of Microsoft's development environment, and apparently didn't set up the runtime redistributables correctly. Until we fix this, you can workaround this by downloading (for free) and installing Microsoft's latest runtime environment from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13- 9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en (http://preview.tinyurl.com/odssp) Sorry about the inconvenience. Thanks to Karel Van der Gucht, Mateusz Dobrowolny and especially to DK for the work they've put into this release. New Features for 3.05 ===================== [1452303] Support multiple automatic backups [1504327, 1600626] Portable (e.g., USB stick) installation supported (configuration information stored in .cfg file instead of registry). [1452303, 1303548, 912724] Option to start Password Safe minimized at login [1600626] Ability to specify alternate browser for URLs - useful if Firefox is your default browser, but you need to access a site that only works with IE, for example. Changes to Existing Features in 3.05 ==================================== [838450] The undocumented backup to .psafe3~ has been replaced by the multiple automatic backup mechanism. Bugs fixed in 3.05 ================== [1578171] Hotkey works again if window just obscured [1521684,1504527] Old (V1) databases now read correctly. Greetings! I began advocating among clients and friends to use Password Safe shortly after discovering it several months ago. Besides using it in Windows XP, I also use it in Linux - under Wine, the Windows emulator. I'm aware that there are several related projects written for Linux and I've tried most of them. Though all are quite good, they lack many of the features of Password Safe. But the biggest problem: database compatibility. When I used those Linux password managers, I had a devil of a time keeping my password databases synchronized. Using Password Safe in Linux allows me to share the very same database file between both operating systems. This works well! I'm hoping to build some interest among Unix users (Wine supports other Unix'), so I am maintaining Password Safe in Wine's application database, AppDB, here: http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=4017 As you'll see if you check the Version->3.04 at that site, there are just two features not working under Wine - Autotype and Help. This really highlights the excellence of both Password Safe and Wine. Jim Showalter |

Hi, PasswordSafe 3.04 fixes an annoying bug that crept into the just-released version 3.03: Edits to password entry's Notes field would be lost if the "hide notes" feature was enabled. Although a workaround is possible (by disabling this feature), we felt that this was sufficiently annoying to warrant a quick response. Thanks to n0tig, mrttoo and aevernon for reporting the problem and confirming the fix in short time. A couple of other minor issues were fixed as well. Bugs fixed in 3.04 ================== [1575432] Hidden notes no longer lost after edit [1575279] Database now marked as "changed" after performing PWHistory operations [1575415] Weak master password allowed on password change as well as new safe. Hi, This is to announce the release of PasswordSafe version 3.03. Version 3.03 is a maintenance release, fixing some bugs and adding some minor new features, as detailed below: New Features for 3.03 ===================== [1302047] Enable Maximize/Window button [1511833] Better formatting of plain text export files. Only the order of entries during export has been implemented. Both export to "Plain Text" and export in "XML Format" will export the database entries in the order as displayed in the "Nested Tree Mode". [1249433] Startup state for Nested Tree mode - User can now select startup as (a) All groups collapsed (previous behaviour); (b) All groups expanded; or (c) Same state as when the database was last saved (could be either all collapsed, all expanded or a mixture of some groups expanded and others collapsed). Hi, I'm glad to annonce the first non-beta release of PasswordSafe version 3. This release is a major upgrade, both in terms of user-visible features and "under the hood". Among the user-visible features: [] Creation time of new entries is now recorded [726518] User can configure an expiration date for entries and be notified accordingly. [726508] Modification and access times now optionally recorded. [737878] It's now possible to copy Notes to Clipboard [1162051] Toolbar additions (Autotype, Browse URL, Copy Notes to clipboard) [1465395] Password can now be (optionally) viewed in Nested Tree Mode [] Ability to clear "Recent Database List" [] Browse to URL now starts a new instance of the user's default browser rather than taking over an existing instance Internally, the password file format has been redesigned to provide better security. Specific issues raised in reviews have been addressed, and the underlying cryptographic algorithms have been updated (from Blowfish and SHA-1 to Twofish and SHA-256). This version of PasswordSafe reads databases from previous versions, and by default stores them in the new format. It's also possible to "export" databases to the old format. The following bugs fixed since the second Beta release: [1482002] Generated password no longer trashed if > 127 bytes [1495670] Find now searches new URL and Autotype fields [1495556] Restore after minimize now works when system-tray not used. [1472332] Read-only command line argument bug [] Help file now reflects 3.0 new features. [1490985, 1423020, 1398936] Microsoft redistributable dlls now included in installation and zip file. Should fix all "MS*.dll not installed" problems [1440951] Can now close application after minimize w/o system tray. Thanks to the brave folks who tried out the Beta versions and gave valuable inputs, thanks again to the gang on the passwordsafe-devel list for help in hammering out the new file format, and special thanks to DK for implementing the new features! Hi, what I do to avoid inconsistent databases on various locations is: I hold the passwordsafe with its database on my USB-stick, and start = looking for passords always from there. I only hold a backup from the stick on my local computer. This has the disatvantage, that you always have to carry the stick with = you, but the advantage is, that you don't have to worry about = synchronising various locations. If you don't have a stick always with you, simply copy the up to date = mySave.dat file to your locations. Overwriting the disk blocks several times with random bit patterns information, or something like that -- there are programs that do this kind of thing for you, some even claiming to implement US government standards of wiping. sroushdy, You should be able to just copy the database file itself. I do the same thing. In fact, I frequently just e-mail the Password Safe database from work to home (or vice versa).
