It seems that OmegaT's auto detection for encoding of HTML files only works for HTML 4. It would be good to enhance it to HTML 5. See the following bug report for details:

    I removed "auto" in the title, to avoid the ambiguity with the charset auto-detection.

    Note that in OmegaT 3.4 and later the encoding will most likely be correctly detected anyway by the juniversalchardet library.
