#354 Art Pen cursor stop to rotate....
Hi dear linux Wacom maintainers,
Bad surprise today after an update, my Art Pen cursor stopped to rotate in Krita and Xorg... same in a Mypaint git version. Cursor do not rotate at all, but pression and tilt are working as usual.
I'm using Antergos Linux 64b (Arch based) with a Cintiq 27.
I tried to downgrade several packages, but nothing worked, and I don't know where to look at. Can you give me some track to follow ?
my current packages :

To complete the bug report, the same pen is working with a Cintiq Companion 2 and the same Krita version (3.3.2), so it's not an hardware issue...

My Ciniq Companion 2 also use Antergos Linux 64 and the packages are :

so only linux and libinput are different, I'll try to donwgrade them again...
Just tried... and downgrading do not solve the bug, despite the sytemctl errors are disapearing... so that must be another package ?

Hi Camille, to figure out the root cause of the issue, you can test the kernel driver first:

If rotation is not reported, you can add some printk statement to input-wacom and trace the issue. If kernel looks right, the next one would be X driver, assuming you are not running Wayland. Please check your /var/log/Xorg.log.0 to see if there is anything related to Wacom. Also, please use xinput ('man xinput' to see the options) to test the output of rotation from X server.
If you could reach this far and rotation werereported properly, the root cause would most likely not be from linuxwacom project

Yes, I use X, Krita do not support Wayland yet.
Here are the results of an evemu-record, Xinput --test and --test-xi2, and my Xorg.log.0 ...I'm sorry, I have no idea how to "add some printk statement to input-wacom and trace the issue". Can you give me some command line to copy an paste, or some documentation ?
As far as I understand:
Is it the ABS_WHEEL event in evemu which is supposed to track rotation ?
If yes, it's not reacting despite I'm rotating the pen.
On the contrary, the a[5] var in Xinput --test, labelled "Abs Wheel" in Xinput --test-xi2 is reacting...
And in the Xorg log, there is only one event related to the pen to add it...

We haven't made any changes to the kernel or X driver that should have broken this, and the logs seem to bear this out: the data sent from the kernel (ABS_Z) and the data sent from X (a[5]) both look fine. It seems that something else has gone awry. I've given Krita and GIMP quick tests locally -- neither seem to be working.
Oddly, I just tested rotation in GIMP a few days ago after hearing a report of it not working and everything was fine... There's not a whole lot common between GIMP and Krita, so the fact that neither work, despite the data being sent from X is very strange.

Back in the office from holidays and taking another look at this. Although I haven't updated my system, it seems that GIMP is working again, so perhaps I just had it incorrectly configured?
Further tests in Krita have been pretty confusing. I tried modifying one of your brushes to rotate based on "Tangential Pressure" (airbrush wheel) and was able to get that working. After restarting Krita and ensuring the brush was still set up to use "Tangential Pressure", however, I could no longer get it to work. The "Tangential Pressure" data is sent by our driver in a[5] just like "Rotation" data is, so clearly Krita can sometimes read it...
I've looked through Krita's code and don't see anything /obviously/ wrong with it, but when I enable tablet debugging (CTRL+SHIFT+T and then watch console output) I notice that although it correctly reports pen pressure and tilt, other information is hit-and-miss. Sometimes I get the pen's unique ID, sometimes its reported as "0". I assume that rotation and tangential pressure would also be reported when it works, but I see "0" for these values at the moment (and haven't figured out why tangential pressure suddenly stopped working after restarting the program).
I almost wonder if Krita is failing to initialize some of its variables correctly, or if it has issues when multiple tablets are plugged in... More things to test...

I tested again today, and it works for me in Gimp too...
It's strange because it was working in the same Krita version previously, so my best guess is that is a Krita dependency that have been updated and broke rotation. I tested with other brushes than mines in Krita (Wolthera Caligraphy Brush in her Inking pack), and it doesn't work either.
Shoukd I report a bug in Krita bugtracker ?

Downgrading Krita doesn't work neither...
Tested with just a single tablet connected to the system after a fresh system update and still don't see any change in Art Pen / Airbrush behavior from my last report.
Reporting a bug in the Krita tracker would probably be best. After you create the bug report, please provide a link to it here so that I (and anyone else) can easily find it to add our own observations.
