Hi there !!! I've just got FastATA cards hardware specification (register layout) from Elbox. Can someone tell me about writing ide-driver for linux ??? I'll start writing it as soon as I compile 2.4.18 and it stops waiting to infinity at ide startup (in other words when it starts working). Krystian Baclawski aka Cahir/Whelpz |

Exist any tutorial for a good KDE2 installation on AmigaPPC with LinuxPPC= ? Thanx for all and good work. Emanuele. P.S.: Excuse me for my bad english.= |

The good news is that /usr only contains system files which can be restored from packages (unless you put something else in /usr/local). The bad news is that /usr contains all binaries, so you'd need some kind of rescue system to restore it. > I'm concerned If I have to install a fresh Debian Woody, because the > installer didn't like my CV643d and the only way I had to install > Debian was by installing Potato and then upgrading everything to=20 > Woody a cumbersome and very tedious task ! The problem occurs because virgefb sets LineLength to 0, which should be easy to change. It wouldn't be hard for the installer (the bogl library to be exact) to work around this either, but it's probably too late for any changes to the woody boot-floppies now. --=20 Earthling Michel D=E4nzer (MrCooper)/ Debian GNU/Linux (powerpc) developer XFree86 and DRI project member / CS student, Free Software enthusiast |

It may be easier to update to XFree86 4.2 if you had debian.. Oh, or, for a quick fix, when you have your old setting up and running: change partitions to ext3, so you can at least skip the fsck'ing. This is 10 to 20 seconds... Hi! I think it's a common problem, because I have it too. Maybe it's caused by FastATA (PowerFlyer1200 ???). When I start driver from AmigaDOS, even bootstrap refuses to start. Maybe someone should convince Elbox guys to give hardware specification of FastATA. Last time they upgraded their home page, and there is developer section, afaik only for registered developers. Reading mail archive I found that someone tried to fix it and made a partial solution patch. Who is responsible for that patch ??? Is it difficult to write driver for ide controller ??? (I'm quite experienced C-developer.) |

My SuSE PPC7.1 handbook tells me that, when you configure the system with yast in System Administration > Login configuration it will automagically set the default runlevel fro runlevel 3 to runlevel 5. But it also tells, that, if runlevel 5 serves another purpose on your machine, then neither XDM nor KDM will be activated (whatever that means). So I think on an out-of-the-box system, runlevel 5 should behave as it is normally wanted to behave as. Maybe you should retry to configure it (just repeat the steps in yast), or you edit /etc/inittab, as it also tells in the manual (page 78, some lines under the picture). You should change the initdefault line to runlevel 5 instead of 3 (without "runlevel", just "5" I think), see manual page 388! If that doesn't help, you should maybe have a look at /etc/init.d/rc5.d. I assume there should be a script in it to start either XDM or KDM. Hope I could help a bit. -- Best wishes, Andi |

Is anybody managing to use the SurfSquirrel serial port with the 2.4.9 kernel? Looks like the whippet module is built into that kernel, so I'm a bit baffled at why it's not working. When I try to access /dev/ttyS1, I just get some error message (not a serial device or something like that), but if I reboot with the 2.2.10 kernel (the one that was on the Amiga Active CD) I can access /dev/ttyS1 and lights on my modem flicker accordingly (although I guess the driver is broken in that version because serial communication gets messed up, and so is unusable). To cut a long story short, 2.4.9 was the most recent kernel that I could find that will actually boot on my system - I was hoping the SurfSquirrel support was fixed in that version, but alas I can't access it at all now :( I also noticed some errors about missing pcmcia modules from /lib/modules/2.4.9/pcmcia (dir is empty here) when booting. Is there something I need to do to get /dev/ttyS1 to work? BTW, I'm using a fresh 2.2r6 install from the Debian CDs (gave up on trying to get the Amiga Active version working adequately :) -- Oliver Roberts - http://www.oliver-roberts.co.uk/ - ICQ: 34640231 IBrowse 2 mailing list ==> http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ibrowse |
