Hello everybody, sorry for my probably mean question, but I want to know if there is another possibility getting latest APUS kernel sources besides downloading the whole CVS tree. Due to the fact that I only own a 56k modem doing the above mentioned would block my phone for hours (at least)! Unfortunately I'm not very common using CVS but I think that there is an option that allows downloading only changed parts compared to an locally existent version (the latest source version I own completely is something around 2.4.9)!? Do I have to use sshell while connecting to CVS? Or maybe there is another possibility to get the sources probably as a whole archived and compressed file (than I would be able to use the download manager function within IBrowse, that allows me to continue an aborted download)? Many thanx in advance Kind regards -- ================ René Thol ================ Ren...@gm... GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net |

Ok problem number one :) : I have setup a clean drive with amiga OS 3.0 ,the ppc.lib and the latest APUS boothack in the C:. I can boot kernel version 2.2.10 and i have installed Debian woody on the linux partition on the end of this clean disk ( its linux only , basic amigaos install to get linux going ). When i try and boot any 2.4.x series kernels ( i've tried a few ) the Blizzard vision ( the aga output promoted to the bv via one of its options ) has the boothack output with the last line being inhibiting filesystems , the AGA output is a light white/grey colour as when booting 2.2.10 , it stays like this for a while and then resets :( The 2.2.10 kernel boots fine , with just a few unresolved symbols on the modules , i'd be gratefull for anyideas on that , but the system works fine without um as i've been using bitchX and lynx all day. Problem 2: When i have got a kernel booted (currently 2.2.10) i want to run X and windowmaker , so i installed the Xfree86 package from the Debain Woody CD and downloaded a config file from the contrib folder and copyied it in , issuing startX reports unresolved sysmbols in glint.o , being a linux newbie i kinda don't know where to start with fixing it. Altough i did set it up to use a framebuffer and the server started and crashed leaving mess on the bottom half of the screen. It then did it ever time i booted so i had to reinstall. Any help is gratefully recieved :) Thanks -Daniel Palmer _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com |

Hi, when I try to run esd I get '/dev/dsp: no such device' even if all permissions are set properly (it gives the same output if ran as root). I also installed alsa drivers, but had no results. Hi I'd like to know which version of the 2.4.17-apus kernel is in the woody .deb. As far as I can see, there have been three revisions of 2.4.17 for apus (yeah, thanks again Michel for compiling the CONFIG_BUFFER stuff into it to have it workink with DHCP). Therefore I am currently using 2.4.17-3 and want to install the modules the proper way (say using the .deb), but I don't know if there would be conflicts if I install a .deb with an older kernel version, and therefore maybe having CONFIG_BUFFER as a module as well as compiled into to kernel itself. PS: Michel: Woody does now seem to be definitely releasable, as it has undergone all my stress testing without failure (and you know what stress testing means :)) )!! -- Thanks, and best wishes, Andi |

Most software you can just apt-get install, no need for tedious compiling. --=20 Earthling Michel D=E4nzer (MrCooper)/ Debian GNU/Linux (powerpc) developer XFree86 and DRI project member / CS student, Free Software enthusiast |

Hi all, I have a number of Linux format Cd's and would like to use some of the programs on my AmigaPPC running Debian Linux. I have not yet compiled any software from source, I am unsure where to find out how. I don't know whether I need source suitable for my PPC. I need the whole process explaining in a simple manner, with my PPC in mind, I assume x86 code is useless for me? Can anyone help or point me in the direction of some simple tutorials on how to do this. As an example I have the source for Opera 6 (off a LF CD) and would like to get this software to run on my system. I have a slow online connection, so I don't really want to have to download debs unless that's the only way. Anyway I want to be able to do this myself. Hi, Ricardo Fitzgerald wrote: > those packages ? and if it is what do I need to uncompress .deb ? > What is the safest way ? You need of course some executables, you can extract a package with "ar p <deb> data.tar.gz | tar xvfz -". As soon as you have everything to execute dpkg, you can use that to reinstall everything. bye, Roman |

Even my /usr partition is lost I have my .deb packages under /var/cache/apt/archives, is it possible to restore it by reinstalling those packages ? and if it is what do I need to uncompress .deb ? What is the safest way ? Regards, Rick Amiga 1200T Registered Linux User |
