I added the following definitions in direct.cfg:
\blacktriangle,{\fs26\u9650?}. \blacksquare,{\fs26\u9632?}.
I also changed the \circ definition to :
\circ,{\f1\u9675?}.
The other definition gave a degree symbol instead of the real circle.

Martin,
So far I have kept unicode out of the RTF. I suppose that getting something translated would be better than nothing.
Why do you specify a particular font size and why don't you use \uc1 as
\blacktriangle,{\uc1\u9650*}.
Thanks Scott

You seem to have CSS turned off. Please don't fill out this field.
Download direct.cfg that is now in CVS. This now contains many new unicode entries. Noteworthy are
\circ,{\u8728}. \bigcirc,{\u9675}.
Your suggestion motivated me to augment direct.cfg. Thanks, Scott
