I do not know if Krename can do this but how do you know the order of the files? How are they sorted? How do you expect to handle uppercase, lowercase, mixed case? Your question is not detailed enough or I see potential problems. M. ---- Ian Petts <ip...@gm...> wrote: ============= Is it possible to rename files using data from an external file? Hello, KRename 4.0.3 has been released today. This release contains a few bug fixes concerning manual changes to filenames and re-adds the subdirectory-sorting plugin from the KDE3 version. This plugin will put your files into numbered subdirectories (01, 02, ...) while renaming and has a few options to control its behaviour. Feel free to report your feedback to our mailing list. I wish everyone on this list and who has helped to work on KRename and improve it a happy new year! I agree that saving the last selection is the better choice, but I currently do not have the 5 minutes to add it. So I think manual is still better than before. Hello, System: Ubuntu 9.10 64Bit krename -v Qt: 4.5.2 KDE: 4.3.3 (KDE 4.3.3) KRename: 4.0.1 1) I am not able to create subdirectories. The syntax "CD[$36;1]/[$37-[length]] - [$12;23]" was working before, now it does not work anymore 2) The sorting does not work properly. By default (at least on my system) the sorting criteria is "Sorting: ASC". This is preset is not working, new files are not (!) sorted. If I select a different sorting criteria and switching back to ASC it's working fine 3) The tab width of the original file and the new files is not set properly by default. Its using only 20% of the available space. Suggestion: Save the percentage of the last setting. 4) the manual rename (double click on a file) is not really handy right now. First it does not save the windows sizes as well, than the default value is to use the krename created file name (in this case why should I double click ?). Suggestion: Save the windows sizes and either default "manual" or (my suggestion) save the last selection. Hi, Good catch. I do not think: "rename processed files again" makes sense after undo - at least not without larger code changes. I disabled the button for now, as the files used after undo were internally in a kind of broken state. Best regards, Dom Am Donnerstag, 22. I ran into this problem will investigating the square bracket issue I just mentioned. If I perform a rename operation that doesn't work as expected, then undo and try to rename the files again, KRename tries to use the "undone" file names for the source files for the second attempt. I know that probably doesn't make a lot of sense, so here's an example: 1. Load the following source file in KRename: 1-07 Take Flight (Wings) [Pocketman].flac 2. Rename with the following template: 1##-[$6-] 3. Get the following output: 101-Take Flight (Wings) \[Pocketman\].flac 4. Realize the issue with the brackets and Undo the operation 5. Try to rename the files again by selecting Rename more..., Rename Processed Files Again 6. Switch to the Filename tab 7. Note that the source file is named: 101-Take Flight (Wings) \[Pocketman\].flac At this point, the file on the filesystem has been reset back to its original name, so the source name in KRename should be reset as well to match. -- Jared |

I just noticed a bug in v4.0.1. If I try to rename files w/ square brackets i the name, KRename will add a backslash before the brackets in the output filename. For example, if I have the following source file: 1-07 Take Flight (Wings) [Pocketman].flac and I rename it with this template: 1##-[$6-] I get the following output: 107-Take Flight (Wings) \[Pocketman\].flac It looks like this is related to escaping special string characters for manipulation, but the escape characters are inadvertently making to the final output. -- Jared |

Great, thanks Dominik. I'll definitely be looking forward to the next version, then. Thanks for the amazingly quick response. :-) I'll try copying over the history manually. If I can at least get some patterns manually added to the list, even if it doesn't update it automatically with the new ones, that'll at least be a good workaround until the next release. Thanks again. -- Jared On 09/26/09 10:42, Dominik Seichter wrote: > Hi Jared, > > Thank you for reporting this bug! Hi Jared, Thank you for reporting this bug! This was a really annoying issue, thanks for uncovering it and sorry for the inconviniences. I fixed the problem in SVN. BTW, you might be able to preserve your template history from KRename 3 if you copy the strings manually from the KRename3 config to the KRename4 configuration file (usually in ~/.kde/share/config/krenamerc and ~/.kde4/share/config/krenamerc). best regards, Dom Am Samstag, 26. I just upgraded to 4.0 (which is awesome, btw. thanks!), but I noticed a problem that's really been causing me some grief. For some reason, previous Templates are no longer saved. For example, say I rename files with a pattern like this: ##-[$6-] In prior versions, the next time I loaded krename I could pull up that same template from the history. In v4, though, it appears that the history is not properly saved (or perhaps it's not properly accessed?). I use krename very, very often for working with various media files, and I often depend on the history to recall complicated previous templates; without it, even fairly simple changes take much longer than the should as I have to type in the full template string every time. Has anyone else noticed this? Anything I can do to help troubleshoot? Thanks. -- Jared |

moin, i was dealing today with: KRename Version 3.9.3 KDE 4.2.4 (KDE 4.2.4) Krename provides two "servicemenues", i. e. for Dolphin or Konqueror - krename_dir.desktop and krenameservicemenu.desktop - in usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenues. Unfortunately none is working. I digged a bit in it, one is missing the correct ServiceType and the other one has different names for action. So this is easy to fix. But as I don't like the naming and want to make a difference between using subfolder or not, I end up with some more minor changes and a third servicemenu. If you like it use it, but the translations besides German have to be rechecked. krename_file.desktop ######### [Desktop Entry] # Sending all kinds of file to Krename Encoding=UTF-8 Actions=Krename Type=Service X-KDE-ServiceTypes=KonqPopupMenu/Plugin,application/octet-stream,all/allfiles X-KDE-ExcludeServiceTypes=kdedevice/*,inode/directory X-KDE-Protocol=!file [Desktop Action Krename] Exec=krename %U Icon=krename Name=Rename file(s) with KRename Name[de]=Datei(en) mit KRename umbenennen Name[es]=Renombrar con KRename Name[fr]=Renommer avec KRename Name[pt_BR]=Renomear com KRename ######### krename_dir.desktop ######### # Sending all kinds of files from a directory to Krename (EXcluding subdirectories) [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Actions=Krename Type=Service X-KDE-ServiceTypes=KonqPopupMenu/Plugin,inode/directory X-KDE-ExcludeServiceTypes=kdedevice/* X-KDE-Protocol=!file [Desktop Action Krename] Exec=krename %U Icon=krename Name=Rename files in directory with KRename Name[de]=Dateien im Ordner mit KRename umbenennen Name[es]=Renombrar con KRename Name[fr]=Renommer avec KRename ########## krename_recdir.desktop ######### # Sending all kinds of files from a directory and ALL subdirectories to Krename [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Actions=Krename Type=Service X-KDE-ServiceTypes=KonqPopupMenu/Plugin,inode/directory X-KDE-ExcludeServiceTypes=kdedevice/* X-KDE-Protocol=!file [Desktop Action Krename] Exec=krename -r %U Icon=krename Name=Rename files in directory AND subdirectories with KRename Name[de]=Dateien im Ordner UND Unterordnern mit KRename umbenennen Name[es]=Renombrar con KRename Name[fr]=Renommer avec KRename ########## No idea, if this interesting for anybody or helping anyone, not even if this is the right place, but anyway, cheers, midsch ______________________________________________________ mailto:mi...@ma... gnupg is cool, secure & easy! encrypt your mails - ask for my key! |
