Hello, Everyone :) Like the subject line states, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that because of continuing issues with Red Hat 9, I will (for the time being anyway) be unable to make Krename RPM's for Red Hat 9. The good news is, the my first RPM for Red Hat 8 is building right as I type :) I will continue to provide Krename RPM's for whatever version of Linux that I may be using (which, will most likely always be Red Hat :)) Hopefully, when Red Hat 9 gets into what I call the "dot" releases, I will be willing to go back to it :) Steven P. Hello, KRename 2.6.1 has been released today, after renaming with KFilePlugins was completly broken in 2.6.0 (including renaming MP3's). Please upgrade. Hi, I am the author of KRename ( http://www.krename.net ). I would like to move this extremely powerful batch renamer into the kdeutils CVS module, so that it can be part of KDE 3.2. I already have a CVS account, so adding it is no problem. I will of course continue to maintain and improve it inside of the CVS. I think it would be a very good addition for KDE, because there is no such tool part of KDE yet and it is extremely useful and powerful. KRename is also bug free, stable and used by many people. Integration in konqueror is possible through a service menu entry and drag and drop. Because most of KRename's features are realized with KFilePlugins which are already part of KDE, no bloat of the source code will IMHO be produced with the import of KRename into the KDE CVS. If you want to try it out, get the latest stable release 2.6.0 from my web page http://www.krename.net . Screen shots and a complete feature list are also available on the web page. Are there any objections against this move? There is no CVS history to import, so I think I can add it to kdeutils by myself (I won't use 'cvs import' :-)). Hello, After 5 month of development I have finished the next stable release of KRename, the powerful batch renamer for KDE. The changes since the last stable version are to many to list here. But KRename got much more stable, much faster and lot's of new great features. Right now there are RPMs available for SuSE 8.0, 8.1, 8.2 and RedHat 9 as well as a Source RPM and the usual Source Tarball. A Gentoo Ebuild will be released soon, too. Please grab all these packages from http://www.krename.net . Thanks to everyone who contributed to this great release and helped me to improve krename. I don't see your "Not for SUSE 8.1" advisory. The problem is that SuSE 8.0 and SuSE 8.1 use a different compiler. As a reason 8.0 rpm's won't work for 8.1. But today is your lucky day, because I finished 2.6.0, the next stable release of KRename. I already uploaded the files, includding a SuSE 8.1 rpm. Get it here and let me know of any problems: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/krename/krename-2.6.0-1.SuSE81.i486.rpm?download CU Dom -- ************************************************************ Dominik Seichter - dom...@we... Up to and including when I click on (or do "tab | enter") the "Finish" button, I have the choice to click with the mouse, or hit "tab | enter" But on the screen that comes up after I click or "tab | enter" the finish button (the "progress" screen), I can tab through the different buttons, but when I hit the enter key on my keyboard, nothing happens. Not the end of the world, of course, but not consistent with the rest of Krename, either. Referring to the message referred to in the subject line of this message, before I made the report, I not only did "rpm -e krename" on the Red Hat 9 RPM I made, but I also made sure that I had sufficient permissions on the files I was trying to rename, and I most definitely did :) I'm looking forward to being the "Red Hat 9 RPM dude." Since my first successful RPM creation (for Krename), I've also made Red Hat 9 RPMS for gqview 1.3.1 and gFTP 2.0.14 :) Anyway, have a Great Day (or Night) Steven P. Ulrick |

Hello, everyone :) I have had the following problem with krename-2.6.0rc2: with every other version of Krename I've ever used (I've used quite a few :)), when I have files ready to be renamed, and I am on the "Filename" screen, I was always able to double-click on a filename of my choice in the "Renamed" column, and a dialog box would come up saying "Please input a new filename:" I would then proceed to change the name to what I wanted it to be, and the name of that file would then turn to red, so that when I clicked "Finish", the name would be permanently changed. That's how it used to work: read below for how it works now. It still works the same up to the point where I click "Ok" on the "Please input new filename:" box. Now, when I make my changes and click "Ok", the box dissapears just like it did in previous versions, but the filename does not turn red, and the file is not renamed. I just did an experiment, and checked the name of the file, just to see if it was actually renamed, but Krename just wasn't accurately relaying that fact. The result was that the file actually was not renamed. Before I made this report, I uninstalled the RPM for Krename that I had made (the new one, the one that hasn't been uploaded yet) and reinstalled from the tar.bz2 file, just to make sure there wasn't a problem with the RPM I made, and I had exactly the same results that I reported above. If you have any questions, or need any clarification, please feel free to ask me. I'm here to help :) Oh yeah, one more thing: I've been using the second version of the RPM I made for Red Hat 9 for a few days, and I am very pleased with it :) Like I told Dominik, I didn't like the first one, because it installed in a non-standard location on my Red Hat 9 machine :( Anyway, have a great day, Everyone :) Steven P. The correct way would have been to change the "Release: " field in the spec file from 1 to 2. RPM would then automatically have created a file krename-2.6.0-rc2-2.i386.rpm. This would garantee that rpm recognizes the new rpm as newer than the old one (because of the higher release number). Hello Dominik :) I just reinstalled Red Hat 9, and I thought I'd download the RPM for Red Hat 9 that I made the other day. When I installed it, it came up "command not found" I proceeded to make another RPM and tried that, and again, "Command not found" I can't remember how, but I found out that the RPM installed fine, but instead of being installed in the path that Red Hat uses as the default for KDE (/usr/bin), I found it at /usr/local/kde/bin. I have no idea how that happened, because before I reinstalled Red Hat 9, I was running Krename from the RPM that I made, and it worked perfectly. Could you let me know how to make an RPM that will install Krename in the path that Red Hat 9 uses by default? Whenever I compile anything from source code, I make the prefix to be /usr, and everything always works perfectly. Unless I've done something really silly, it seems that the RPM I made won't do Red Hat users much good right now. Let me know how to fix it, and I'll gladly make another one :) Have a Great Night (or Day), Steven P. Ulrick Oh yeah, forgot to mention: you might have assumed this, but you can count on me to make Red Hat RPM's for all new releases of Krename :) |

May I send you an updated krename tarball which should fix this problem in private mail? I would like to have the tarball tested by you first before I release a new version. Please check your installation! For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log. Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support! Is this because of some new feature? I've never had any problem's compiling KRename before :) Thanks for your help :) Steven P. Ulrick Almost forgot: I am running Red Hat 8, with all 1400+ packages installed, and with all the official updates installed. |

Hi guys, Just a note that KRename 2.6rc1 can be downloaded from www.krename.net. Please give us some feedback before the 2.6.0 stable release. This version comes with some small changes compared to the last development release: Added icon to service menu entry Fixed gcc 3.x compiler warnings Fixed kfile plugins returning spaces at the end Greatly improved startup time CU Dom -- ************************************************************ Dominik Seichter - dom...@we...
