Hi, I started to have difficulty downloading the list of plugins, and it turned out that jedit.org is no longer registered: http://jedit.org/ Are there any plans to recover the domain? Best, Dietrich |

Yes, auto detect is turned on. Maybe I should just change the default encoding from Cp1252 to UTF8 on Windows. Ideally it would be nice if I could tell JEdit to automatically use encodings based on glob patterns, and use the default encoding whenever a glob pattern is not matched. I am assuming in that ideal case that a glob pattern might extend to a full file spec so specific directories could be part of the pattern. > > Dale > > > > On Mon, Nov 18, 2019, 7:30 AM Edward Diener <eld...@tr... > <mailto:eld...@tr...>> wrote: > > On 11/18/2019 5:31 AM, Moti Ben-Ari wrote: > > Use File/Reload with Encoding to use a different encoding for an > > individual file. > > > > Note that there are a large number of encodings which can be a pain > > since utf8 is near the end :-(. Unfortunately, there isn't a built-in way to do that, and I'm not aware of a plugin that provides that feature. The jEdit API doesn't really provide a way to set encoding by file type, rather it uses bytes from an input stream and doesn't give access to the file itself, so without an API change, a plugin couldn't do what you're asking. I'm assuming you have the auto detect encoding turned on? I am fully aware that I can open an individual file with a particular encoding using File/Reload with Encoding. But if you read my OP below that is not what I asked about. I want to have the ability to automatically open certain file types as defined by file globs and a file location with an encoding that is not the single default encoding defined by Global Options | Encodings | Default Character Encoding. In other words I find the single default character encoding, applied to all files for which I have not changed to a different encoding, to be a very limited way of specifying what encoding I want for files. > > On Mon, Nov 18, 2019 at 8:03 AM Edward Diener <eld...@tr... > <mailto:eld...@tr...>> wrote: > > I do not see anything the JEdit settings that lets me control the > character encoding which certain types of files, or certain types of > files in certain directories, should be opened with. Use File/Reload with Encoding to use a different encoding for an individual file. Note that there are a large number of encodings which can be a pain since utf8 is near the end :-(. Go to Utilities/Global Options/Encodings and drag to Selected encoding(s) the ones you need. I do not see anything the JEdit settings that lets me control the character encoding which certain types of files, or certain types of files in certain directories, should be opened with. Does this exist in JEdit ? I only noticed a global option for the default encoding. Have a I missed something, or does JEdit, or perhaps a JEdit plugin, let me control the character encoding with which certain files are opened. While the default encoding under Windows, Cp1252, works well for the vast majority of files there are a number of files which should be opened with the UTF8 encoding instead. In particular nearly all git files in git repositories are UTF8. I did notice that once I changed the character encoding for a particular file that JEdit retains this even between sessions, so evidently JEdit can associate a character encoding with a particular file whenever I edit the file. But what I am looking for is the ability to say that all the files of a particular file glob within a particular directory/subdirectories should be opened with some encoding which is not the default encoding. |

Dear jEdit users, I'm trying to get ctags and CtagsInterface working in my favourite editor, however with no success so far. As the (original?) author Shlomy Reinstein does not seem to be around anymore I was wondering if anybody could help me out? I got myself three different versions of ctags.exe, one of them is the latest build of universal-ctags (https://github.com/universal-ctags/ctags-win32/releases). I set up all necessary plugins in a fresh installation of jEdit and figured out how to define "origins" (file index sources) via ProjectViewer or FileBrowser + Lucene. However tagging the origins via CtagInterface does not seem to work, the tagging progress dock opens but nothing seems to happen. Calling the various ctags executables directly from the Windows console while providing the same parameter seems to work just fine, the tag files are correctly generated. Should CtagsInterface still be working correctly with the current version of jEdit? My setup: • Windows 7 x64 • jEdit 5.5.0 • CtagsInterface 2.8.0, LucenePlugin 4.2, ... • ctags in various versions, e.g. "universal-ctags/ctags-win32 2019-11-08/be621aec" Many thanks and best regards Jakob |

Can this be done using the jedit.exe on Windows or must I start JEdit using the "\path_to_java11\java" command line in Windows ? Sorry to be so late responding to your answer but I have finally installed JDK 11 in Windows 10 and would like to start JEdit so it uses this JDK11. I also noticed that the Oracle JDK11 does not separately install a JRE as the Oracle JDK8 does in Windows. Sorry to be so late responding to your answer but I have finally installed JDK 11 in Windows 10 and would like to start JEdit so it uses this JDK11. I also noticed that the Oracle JDK11 does not separately install a JRE as the Oracle JDK8 does in Windows. I looked into this some more and checked in a fix. If you're comfortable unzipping and zipping the Templates.jar file, you can fix it by unzipping the jar, edit the Templates.props file and make this line: plugin.templates.TemplatesPlugin.jars=oro-2.0.8.jar velocity-1.7.jar look like this: plugin.templates.TemplatesPlugin.jars=oro-2.0.8.jar velocity-1.7.jar log4j-1.2.14.jar Then zip the file (with a .jar extension, of course) and restart jEdit. I suggest that if the printer shown on the “print.lastUsedPrinter” line in the properties file doesn’t exist or can’t be initialized or whatever then it should be ignored, and the printer dialog should be displayed so the user can select another printer. Thank you ! That solved my problem and JEdit is printing again. I think this is a bug in JEdit, especially because JEdit can be used with multiple OSs in a multi-boot environment, with each OS using the same command line -settings=some_path in a shared partition. That is how I use JEdit and the printer names are certainly different in each OS, even if the actual printer is the same. Dale, Over the years I have used Red Hat, Scientific Linux and now Centos 7, i.e. basically all versions of RedHat. Printing never worked on any of them. I always get the pop up message described in the thread, i.e. "An error occurred while trying to print. Invalid print service." I long ago gave up even trying to print from jedit. I tried the suggestion in this thread of editing the properties file by hand and correcting the name of the printer and it didn't help. I just tried it again and, what the ? It worked! First time ever. How did you do that? It occurs to me I may have closed and reopened jedit recently. I normally have it open permanently. Does it only read the properties value when it starts up? Any way it is good news, printing works with jedit . Alex On 16/10/2019 01:25, Dale Anson wrote: Alex, what flavors? I've tested on Gentoo, Ubuntu, Fedora, and Arch, all print fine. Well, the daily build server is down at the moment, can you build jEdit yourself? If so, just get the latest from subversion and give it a try. If not, I'll see if I can upload a copy somewhere public for you. How about just not relying on the last used printer if it no longer exists in the JEdit print logic <g> ? Even if I use JEdit on a single OS JEdit should continue working correctly if I delete a printer at the OS level. Surely not doing so is a bug in JEdit. Switching OS/Platforms while using the same settings directory, and expecting all of your settings to work correctly is not a frequent use-case that we test jEdit for. However, a feature request allowing jEdit to remember or not remember the last used printer might be something that would make this use-case work better when printing stuff. I’ve seen this pop up in the following circumstance: 1. I had a default printer set in Windows. 2. I had printed to this printer from jEdit. 3. I changed my default printer in Windows, and 4. I deleted the old default printer completely from Windows. jEdit started throwing the “Invalid print service” message. To fix it I edited the jEdit “properties” file (C:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\jEdit\properties) and deleted the “print.lastUsedPrinter” line. Invalid print service." and JEdit can not print my current file. The printing function had always been working before so I do not know why it has stopped working. I suspect it is simply because of the low toner cartridge, but I have changed nothing in JEdit to keep it from working. -- ----------------------------------------------- jEdit Users' List jEd...@li...<mailto:jEd...@li...> https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/jedit-users<https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/jedit-users> The information contained in this e-mail message is privileged and/or confidential and is intended only for the use of the individual or entity named above.
