Sometimes I save a file that does not belong in my project. I get the question "add to project?"
and it also asks me "import automatically from now on?"

Answering "yes" to this question seems to also mean "don't ask me again" but I am confused about whether "yes" means all files or just files of this name. 

I want this dialog to remember my answer whenever it asks me again about a file with the same name and not ask me again but import automatically/not depending on my answer.  Perhaps a checkbox "don't ask me about this filename again".

But then the question is, when I say "don't ask me again" what do I mean? Do I mean all new files that are not in my project already? No, I just mean files with the same name as the one I want to not add now. 

So it would be nice if the dialog was clear about that too.

I installed Jedit (latest) from a macOS .dmg on Ventura 13.2.1. It complains it requires a Java 11 or higher; I have Java 19 on the path.

If it helps, the 5.7pre1 version you provided was able to find java on my system. Here is the Java I have installed:

% java -version
openjdk version "21.0.2" 2024-01-16 LTS
OpenJDK Runtime Environment Temurin-21.0.2+13 (build 21.0.2+13-LTS)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM Temurin-21.0.2+13 (build 21.0.2+13-LTS, mixed mode)

Thank you for the update. I have been looking forward to it as I have been having issues with hypersearch beachballing my system for large files (or taking an extremely long time), I think ever since the move away from Java 1.8. The same hypersearch on Windows completes quickly. (If it is still occuring I will try to gather data and submit as a separate ticket.)

One thing I have noticed with this release is it prompts for access to certain restricted folders like the Downloads, but when I select Allow, the selection doesn't stick between sessions.

I've been seeing some strange behavior within jEdit recently while trying to use it to work on the LSP plugin. Shortly after beginning work, jEdit becomes completely unresponsive to my key presses, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why.

- This behavior normally kicks in as a result of opening the search-and-replace dialog, though I have seen it with other popups too (like Help->About jEdit...). Until I do that, typing works just fine.
- Mouse interaction within jEdit still works.
- My keyboard still works outside of jEdit.
- No plugin appears to be responsible, since I'm able to reproduce it with no plugins loaded.
- No errors appear in the activity log.
- I have seen this with both Java 11 and Java 17.

This is tested with jEdit 5.6.0 running on openSUSE Tumbleweed.

Anyone have any tips on how to debug this further? I really have no idea what's going on, and it's making jEdit borderline unusable.

WhiteSpace doesn't compile with jEdit 5.6. I always wonder: 05.06.99.00 = 5.6, right?

It uses `SyntaxUtilities.parseColor(String)` but this was introduced in jEdit 5.7.

Ignore this email. There were various settings I didn't have set up right
yet. Now windows is working like linux for me.

I'm testing jEdit trunk on linux and windows. java 21 on both systems.
On linux, WhiteSpace properly displays end of line characters and
whitespaces.
on windows, not.

on linux, voxspell works. on windows, not.

Not sure why this is yet, but it might be related to textarea extensions...

Actually, this seems to work on Linux but not for me on Windows, and I am not sure why. Does anyone else notice this? Perhaps we should hold off on releasing it until it works on Windows too.

	I think that this is what occasionally locks up my keyboard also.  In my
case, the keyboard becomes unusable in all open applications, so I have to
reboot to recover.

I've been seeing some strange behavior within jEdit recently while trying to use it to work on the LSP plugin. Shortly after beginning work, jEdit becomes completely unresponsive to my key presses, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why.

- This behavior normally kicks in as a result of opening the search-and-replace dialog, though I have seen it with other popups too (like Help->About jEdit...). Until I do that, typing works just fine.
- Mouse interaction within jEdit still works.
- My keyboard still works outside of jEdit.
- No plugin appears to be responsible, since I'm able to reproduce it with no plugins loaded.
- No errors appear in the activity log.
- I have seen this with both Java 11 and Java 17.

This is tested with jEdit 5.6.0 running on openSUSE Tumbleweed.

Anyone have any tips on how to debug this further? I really have no idea what's going on, and it's making jEdit borderline unusable.
