The error dialog should be avoided for the folder that we have selected for deletion!

Steps to reproduce:

  1. navigate to /home/elelay/jedit
  2. expand the coucou folder
  3. select the BinEd folder
  4. expand it
  5. delete it
  6. An I/O Error dialog appears: /home/elelay/jedit/coucou/BinEd: Unable to list files in this folder.

This doesn't happen when the BinEd folder is not expanded.

Can confirm. Would be better to do nothing or say something like "Directory deleted".

I was able to replicate this on jEdit 5.7.0, Java 25, macOS 27.2.

Here is a set of replication steps that doesn’t depend on a specific home directory:

Create a test folder structure: test/parent/child/file.txt
Open Utilities → File System Browser and navigate to the test folder.
    Expand parent, then expand child.
Right-click child and choose Delete, then confirm.

Expected: the folder is deleted with no error.
Actual: an “I/O Error” dialog appears: “/…/parent/child: Cannot list directory.”

Note: in 5.7.0 the error text reads “Cannot list directory.” rather than “Unable to list files in this folder,” which may help anyone searching for this issue.
