Dear all, We are very happy to announce the new release of our open source predictive text entry system - Anumaan. This release includes new version of standalone flavour of Anumaan i.e. Anumaan-standalone-0.2. This version has been released as part of the activities of project "Enhancing Accessibility for FOSS Desktops" under NRCFOSS-Phase II being carried out at CDAC, Mumbai. Anumaan gives predictions based on preceding text/words used by the user in his/her text and user can use these predictions, while composing text. By incorporating predictions, user can improve his/her rate of text entry to a great extent. Anumaan is mainly intended to help persons with motor disabilities, specially ones facing problems in hand and finger movement. Such persons face difficulty in using regular input devices like keyboard for text entry related tasks. Anumaan can help such persons immensely in their text entry related tasks by way of predictions. However, It is equally useful for common users also and can support them in creating mails, letters, documents etc. in less time. Salient features of current version include: More user-friendly and simplified interface for easy interaction and navigation.Re-oriented layout of text entry area and prediction display in order to reduce visual and cognitive overhead. A single comprehensive prediction list combining predictions from all relevant grams for easy selection.Keyboard support for selecting predictions from prediction list. It reduces time taken in selecting and committing predictions to text. Larger text entry area compared to previous version for easy text entry.Integrated context-sensitive help. Re-oriented menu bar for easy access and navigation. All these features are intended to improve user interaction and experience for motor disabled people. Anumaan is developed on java platform and supports UTF-8, so it can effectively be run on any platform. Newly released version of Anumaan can be downloaded from http://www.cdacmumbai.in/anumaan. Details about project "Enhancing Accessibility for FOSS Desktops" can be accessed at http://www.cdacmumbai.in/accessibility. We will appreciate if you can use the application and send us your valuable feedback. Feedback, bug reports or feature enhancement requests about the application can be sent to os...@cd... or pre...@gm... Thanks & Regards Anumaan Team, Open Source Software Division, CDAC Mumbai. Hello everyone, This is a bit old thread but I am still stuck with the problem described in previous posts. First of all thanks to Mahesh ji for his replies. Increasingly, I believe, Mahesh ji's recommendation about hiring a consultant is a viable option for me. I would highly appreciate if anybody here on this forum suggest/refer/recommend a consultant with knowledge in this area either a volunteer (as this is a non-profit project) or paid. Best regards, -Atul PS. Excerpt from my original post describing the main problem is mentioned below. I am trying to introduce new characters (I'll design its glyph) in an Indian language font and make it behave (in terms of conjugations - sanyuktakshar) properly. In other words, the new alphabets will be slightly modified version of original alphabets (in terms of glyphs) to denote subtle variation in their sounds but will behave exactly same in terms of conjugations. In my opinion what I am trying to accomplish is similar to addition of accented characters in Latin alphbets. The only difference or complication here is that of generating combined or conjugated letters (a common feature in Indian languages which is missing in many European languages, if I am correct) . As far as I understand, I need to create new codepoints for new characters and then write rules for their rendering (especially conjugations) into pango for this. Is this correct? Can experts please shed some light on this and give me some hints how to accomplish this project? Is their any tutorial or resource to learn how to add new valid codepoints in fonts. Also, how to make a testing system for pango, so that I can modify and build it on ubuntu. If their is some better approach or if the approach that I am suggesting is incorrect please advice me some right approach to solve this problem. I am using scim and m17n as input method and work on Ubuntu 12.04. On Wed, Jul 4, 2012 at 9:09 PM, Mahesh T. G, Hey, that would be great! If you like, have a look at FreeFont. (I'm the admin of that project.) The last (May 2012) includes lots of improvements to Indic ranges. It was mostly tested in Linux (primarily Pango) and Windows XP. Indic font rendering has changed a lot recently, so the Indic doesn't work well with Windows 7 or with Harfbuzz in Linux. My current thrust is to improve the Indic ranges for those rendering systems. Cheers! Hello, The Wiki information hasn't been updated, nor have I seen a reply to this. Should I update the info myself somehow? I see a "log in" button on the Wiki. But I haven't found how to *register* for a new login. If one of you is to do it, please note I did most of the work in the included HTML. I expect this will take you no more that 2 minutes to fix.
