Hello All;
I find myself in the same position as Mathieu when it comes to libgpod support for the nano 6g. As I understand it, Apple changed the way that iTunes computes the library checksum on the 6g nano (and others) and that is why libgpod no longer works. Is someone currently working the super fun task of reverse engineering the hash-generation function? What can I do to help.
I am a SW engineer as well.

Evening, I have uploaded the release candidate to sourceforge. Please could people test and give feedback. A few bugfixes went into the beta, eg. normalization actions. Translation po files have been updated as a consequence of the changing codebase so it would be great if people could have a look at them. I have found the transifex client in fedora 15 which makes syncing with the transifex site trivial. It may help people ... It would be nice for some po files to become 100% again (italian for example). Probably try and release before the New Year. Otherwise, for those that celebrate it - Happy Christmas! phantomjinx -- "I know exactly who reads the papers ... The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country. "Ing. Ricardo Pérez" <ric...@gm...> wrote: Ok, I've been thinking about it. Let's see. If you go to a "Edit track details" tab, and then go to the "General" tab (the first one), at the end, you can see a "media type" selectlist, can't you? In there, you have several options, including "audio" and "video", for example. Now, if I understand well, the "smart playlist" only are "smart" in the computer, NOT In the iPod. Why do I say this? Because, if I have a smart playlist where I say "put in here all the songs that have been played only once" (for example), then iTunes automatically puts all the songs that fit in this filter, inside of the playlist. BUT if I play a song in my iPod, and it's the first time I play it, that song won't be added to the smart playlist until I plug mi iPod to the PC and open the iTunes. In conclusion, is iTunes who updates the smart playlists, no the iPod itself, nor something in the songs. Now, why am I telling all this to you? Because if gtkpod is able to set the media type of an element in the "edit track details" tab, I would think that it is able too to read it. And if it is able to read it, it could be used in a smart list. By the moment, I'm trying to find some info about that thing that you told me about the "special manner" that is used to handle the selector in itunes db. I'll be reporting to you, may be something of it could be useful. We're in contact Ricardo 2011/12/18 phantomjinx <p.g...@ph...> The problem with the playlist combobox is a trivial fix and I will upload it shortly. The Media Type selector is more problematic. The lack of this field is a direct reflection of what libgpod currently provides, ie. it is not part of the smart playlist fields. In addition, it would appear that the "video kind" selector is handled in a special manner by the itunes db and again there is no provision for a media type selector. Thus without understanding this a lot further, I am hesitant to modify this at this stage of a release cycle. teuf, if you can provide any insight into this, it would be most helpful. Cheers PGR The media type in the edit details window is where I started basing an implementation of a smart playlist on. However, smart playlists and their settings are part of the iTunes database, according to the libgpod source code. There are specific bits that get set when such a playlist is created. There is currently no smart playlist rule for media type hence the need to consult teuf, the libgpod dev. Any further info you can glean is most welcome. Hello everybody I'm currently a owner of an ipop nano 6g (the touching one) and a software engineer. As i can understand, this version is not currently suppported? Why this model make problems? Is there people working on it? if so, do we have a chance to get this feautre in the future. And the most important? How can I help? Can i contribute to the source? i'm pretty noob about any iDevice programming. Hope not disturbing you all. Mathieu Westphal |

The best way to approach this problem would be to first try to see if music syncing is done similarly as what was done in iOS4, that is by updating sqlite3 databases located in iTunes_Control/iTunes/iTunes Something/*.itdb and a Locations.itdb.cbk file containing hashes for the Locations.itdb. From what I heard, it's now doing something quite different, so the next step would be to figure out what it's doing, if it's changing some files on the iPhone, or using a dedicated protocol at the libimobiledevice level, ... Feel free to come to visit on IRC if you want a live discussion about this (irc.freenode.net #gtkpod), or to ask more questions as it is just a quick summary Christophe |

Hi, I've had a look around the repository, website and mailing lists and can't really find much information about what is required to get libgpod syncing music with the new v5 database on iOS5. I have an iPad2 with iOS 5.0.1 and would like to help with getting this working if possible. I'm a professional programmer (mostly C and C++) with reasonable experience with Linux/Unix programming and some Mac (but I'm mostly Windows). What would be the best way for me to get involved with this particular aspect? JD |

Yeah this part is a bit messy, the ipod name can be found in the fat filesystem label, and it's also the master playlist name. We can change the latter, but I don't think there's an integrated way of changing the former. If Nautilus uses this, this explains why it can't be changed. > > 3.) Hmm, I'd have to dig in the code to figure out why it's doing that. Fwiw, I've seen your questions on IRC, but you were present between 2am and 6am my time, so not the best time to find me awake :) In particular, the case sensitivity of smart playlist rules has changed in 0.8.2, see http://gtkpod.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=gtkpod/libgpod;a=commit;h=b35c72da7e3a73d031cdf4200eadc3145436336b Hope that helps, Christophe > > If these could be addressed, that'd be great. > > Scott Ringwelski > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > All the data continuously generated in your IT infrastructure > contains a definitive record of customers, application performance, > security threats, fraudulent activity, and more. I've found a few bugs while using libgpod: 1.) Liveupdate does not work. This can be tested using gtkpod. 2.) There is no way to rename iPod names (the name that is shown in nautilus in the mount list). 3.) For some reason, if you create a playlist with parameter is_spl=true, it will automatically add a SPLRule that is field=Artist, action=Contains, string=null. If these could be addressed, that'd be great. Scott Ringwelski |

Hello,
I am trying to sync smart playlists. However, even though the smart
playlists are added, the rules must be broken as no songs are shown. I
wrote a function to convert my normal smart playlist object to a gpod smart
playlist. Where am I going wrong?
public GPod.Playlist get_gpod_playlist() {
GPod.Playlist rv = new GPod.Playlist(name, true);
rv.splpref.liveupdate = 1;
foreach(var sq in _queries) {
rv.splr_add_new(-1);
unowned GPod.SPLRule rule =
rv.splrules.rules.nth_data(rv.splrules.rules.length() - 1);
if(sq.field == "Album" || sq.field == "Artist" || sq.field == "Composer"
|| sq.field == "Comment" || sq.field == "Genre" || sq.field == "Grouping"
|| sq.field == "Title") {
rule.field = GPod.SPLFieldType.STRING;
rule.action = GPod.SPLActionType.STRING;
rule.@string = sq.value;
}
else if(sq.field == "Bitrate" || sq.field == "Playcount" || sq.field ==
"Skipcount" || sq.field == "Year" || sq.field == "Length" || sq.field ==
"Rating") {
rule.field = GPod.SPLFieldType.INT;
if(sq.comparator == "is exactly") {
stdout.printf("int ex\n");
rule.action = GPod.SPLActionType.INT;
rule.fromvalue = uint64.parse(sq.value);
}
else if(sq.comparator == "is less than") {
stdout.printf("int less\n");
rule.action = GPod.SPLActionType.RANGE_INT;
rule.fromvalue = (uint64)0;
rule.tovalue = uint64.parse(sq.value);
}
else if(sq.comparator == "is greater than") {
stdout.printf("int greater\n");
rule.action = GPod.SPLActionType.RANGE_INT;
rule.fromvalue = uint64.parse(sq.value);
rule.tovalue = (uint64)99999999; // BIG. like that one commercial.
}
if(sq.field == "Rating") {
rule.fromvalue *= 20;
rule.tovalue *= 20;
}
rule.fromunits = rule.tounits = (uint64)1;
}
else if(sq.field == "Date Added" || sq.field == "Last Played") {
rule.field = GPod.SPLFieldType.DATE;
if(sq.comparator == "is exactly") {
stdout.printf("date ex\n");
rule.action = GPod.SPLActionType.DATE;
rule.fromdate = int64.parse(sq.value);
rule.fromunits = rule.tounits = (uint64)(60 * 60 * 24);
}
else if(sq.comparator == "is within") {
stdout.printf("date within\n");
rule.action = GPod.SPLActionType.RANGE_DATE;
rule.todate = (int64)time_t() / (60 * 60 * 24);
rule.fromdate = ((int64)time_t() / (60 * 60 * 24)) - int64.parse(sq.value);
rule.fromunits = rule.tounits = (uint64)(60 * 60 * 24);
}
else if(sq.comparator == "is before") {
stdout.printf("date bef\n");
rule.action = GPod.SPLActionType.RANGE_DATE;
rule.todate = ((int64)time_t() / (60 * 60 * 24)) - int64.parse(sq.value);
rule.fromdate = (int64)0;
rule.fromunits = rule.tounits = (uint64)(60 * 60 * 24);
}
}
}
rv.splpref.checkrules = (uint8)queries().size;
rv.splpref.checklimits = (uint8)0;
rv.splrules.match_operator = (conditional == "any") ? GPod.SPLMatch.OR :
GPod.SPLMatch.AND;
return rv;
}
Thanks for any help!

Morning, Bug fixes, few improvements (multi-select in playlist tree and filter tabs), inclusion of the clarity plugin... Anyone using the unstable builds will have already encountered some of these already. All need further testing so the 2.1.1 release beta 1 has been uploaded. The NEWS file contains the summary of the changes. Translators: The po files will need updating so if anyone has time then contributions most welcome. I will upload a new gtkpod.pot onto transiflex at some point in the next couple of days. Cheers PGR -- "I know exactly who reads the papers ... I made a binding for vala for libgpod, and I can successfully connect to an iPod video database. However, when I try and parse the mountpoint of an ipod touch (2g), it will not recognize it. It says : uncaught error: Couldn't find an iPod database on afc://53bd67116f4e41875559f48e3ca3887500e2415a:3/.
