Solved! Javier Kohen wrote:* my guess is that gtkpod is compiled against version .26 for 64 bits, but you only have the 32-bit library for that version.* I suppose Javier was right, although maybe some more investigation would be nice... so let me write some info and the solution. This is my architecture from uname -a: *Linux merlinux 3.0-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 17 21:55:57 CEST 2011 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux* This is the gtkpod binary which got called before the solution: file `which gtkpod`: */usr/local/bin/gtkpod: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.27, BuildID[sha1]=0xa36d237faab8ee584adfd3358edaff2068d1b748, not stripped *And these were the versions of the modules involved in the problem before applying the solution: file `which */usr/lib/libgnutls**`* /usr/lib/libgnutls-extra.so.28.0.1: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=0xf4f5b366b0f307a581415ea231b403b0283c9621, stripped /usr/lib/libgnutls-openssl.so.27.0.0: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=0xc9d5d8a06e295abf1f963a52b4a4382931faf80c, stripped /usr/lib/libgnutls.so.28.0.1: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=0xa4da4f2d7e5220e653894ae91a0808064f8c0b63, stripped /usr/lib/libgnutlsxx.so.28.0.0: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=0x9b68cd9c8547edcf20a1e75f0e5f10a4a56cd5c7, stripped* file `which */usr/lib32/libgnutls**`* /usr/lib32/libgnutls-extra.so.26.18.10: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, stripped /usr/lib32/libgnutls-openssl.so.27.0.0: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, stripped /usr/lib32/libgnutls.so.26.18.10: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, stripped /usr/lib32/libgnutlsxx.so.27.0.0: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, stripped* The gnutls packages I've got installed are (shown by pacman -Qs gnutls): *local/gnutls 3.0.1-1 local/lib32-gnutls 2.12.2-1* Before describing what solved the situation, I apologize! You can point at me your finger, because I found the solution before I could do your tests... so I have the solution, but really I don't know much about why it worked! :( I simply compiled and installed libgpod and gtkpod from sourceforge repository (0.8.2 libgpod and 2.1.0 gtkpod). They both recognized x86_64 as architecture in ./configure phase. After that, i run gtkpod expecting the "libgnutls.so.26 not found" error, but the program just launched fine......... Maybe all this confusion was caused by the fact that, before putting the sourceforge libgpod, I had the Arch repos version installed: so trying to put the git version of gtkpod with libgpod from repos caused the error. What can I say, sorry for all the time I stole to you, I promise to be more careful next time. Thank you all again, Riccardo Merlotti |

I'll give a try to both solution attempts proposed, many thanks to all of you! I'll write back here the output of "uname -a" (I'm under Win here @work so I've got to wait until this evening) and let you know if I solve or if I discover something more interesting... Thanks again! I develop on fedora 15 which is currently at 2.6.40 kernel so not experienced your problem yet. This is the layout of my libgnutls libgnutls-extra.so -> libgnutls-extra.so.26.16.14 libgnutls-extra.so.26 -> libgnutls-extra.so.26.16.14 libgnutls-extra.so.26.16.14 libgnutls-openssl.so -> libgnutls-openssl.so.26.16.14 libgnutls-openssl.so.26 -> libgnutls-openssl.so.26.16.14 libgnutls-openssl.so.26.16.14 libgnutls.so -> libgnutls.so.26.16.14 llibgnutls.so.26 -> libgnutls.so.26.16.14 libgnutls.so.26.16.14 libgnutlsxx.so -> libgnutlsxx.so.26.16.14 libgnutlsxx.so.26 -> libgnutlsxx.so.26.16.14 libgnutlsxx.so.26.16.14 As you can see there are no 28 versions there. Can you try removing the 28s temporarily, recompiling and running. I am thinking that it may be compiling against one version but running against the other?? Although, only guessing... It seems that in at least one case an error wasn't being propagated correctly in 0.8.0. In parse_fimp, when looks_like_itunesdb fails, it could set an error on the FContents, but that never makes its way back to the FImport. Here's a patch, but I don't know if it's necessarily in the right place to handle it: https://github.com/fadingred/libgpod/commit/4cd4c60840f860089ea249d9c5ce65ad05267880 Whitney Young FadingRed wb...@fa... www.fadingred.com |

Hi everybody, I'm trying to get gtkpod working after latest update in Arch. The update came up with latest kernel, and now the "uname -r" command shows up: 3.0-ARCH I tried both to pull the git version and download and install the 2.1.0 version from the website, but in both cases after a successful (I suppose!) compiling process (./configure or ./autogen.sh, then make and finally sudo make install) I obtain the same result: gtkpod: error while loading shared libraries: libgnutls.so.26: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I noticed with a locate that the situation for gnutls modules is as follows: /usr/lib/libgnutls-extra.so /usr/lib/libgnutls-extra.so.28 /usr/lib/libgnutls-extra.so.28.0.1 /usr/lib/libgnutls-openssl.so /usr/lib/libgnutls-openssl.so.27 /usr/lib/libgnutls-openssl.so.27.0.0 /usr/lib/libgnutls.so /usr/lib/libgnutls.so.26 /usr/lib/libgnutls.so.28 /usr/lib/libgnutls.so.28.0.1 /usr/lib/libgnutlsxx.so /usr/lib/libgnutlsxx.so.28 /usr/lib/libgnutlsxx.so.28.0.0 /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/misc/libgnutls_plugin.so /usr/lib32/libgnutls-extra.so /usr/lib32/libgnutls-extra.so.26 /usr/lib32/libgnutls-extra.so.26.18.10 /usr/lib32/libgnutls-openssl.so /usr/lib32/libgnutls-openssl.so.27 /usr/lib32/libgnutls-openssl.so.27.0.0 /usr/lib32/libgnutls.so /usr/lib32/libgnutls.so.26 /usr/lib32/libgnutls.so.26.18.10 /usr/lib32/libgnutlsxx.so /usr/lib32/libgnutlsxx.so.27 /usr/lib32/libgnutlsxx.so.27.0.0 Maybe this is the issue? I finally noticed that symlinkig the .26 module in /usr/lib produces this error: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 Any hep would be appreciated, if you need additional info I'm here for you. Cheers, Riccardo |

In general, it is a problem running an up-to-date version of gtkpod on an old Ubuntu since there are many dependencies that use specific versions in Ubuntu dependencies, and backporting gtkpod may break things... Evening, Finally uploaded gtkpod version 2.1.0, successfully migrating to gtk 3, which should help its inclusion in various distros. Thanks for people's help with this release. Much appreciated. All issues posted with the first beta have been addressed in this beta. Most significant issue was the compilation failures on suse and mageia. This has been sorted by removing the gsealed transition instructions from configure.ac, raising the requirements of gdk to 3.0 and removing the backward compatible macros from the source for the drag n drop functions. I'm trying :-) Last GTK2-based version of gtkpod is going to be overwritten by the new GTK3-based 2.1.0 version, once it's ready, packaged and uploaded. > There are unofficial debs of later versions kicking around on launchpad > and on the project page on sourceforge. AFAIK, there's no backports of latest gtkpod against LTS versions of Ubuntu... but I must admit that I hadn't searched too much ;-) Larry, you could try to package by yourself or give me enough time to try to backport it for 10.04 in a cowbuilder environment, even though I can't promise to succeed; I'm not so good with Ubuntu :-P Happy hacking. mfv -- Il messaggio e' stato analizzato alla ricerca di virus o contenuti pericolosi da MailScanner, ed e' risultato non infetto. |

Hello, Thank you very much for pointing this out. As I've stated, my device is an iPhone 3G. I think I'll try the old DBVersion trick and let's see whether it works. AFAIK, the postprocess works fine, at least the logs show that a) the database is written to, and b) the checksum is correct, because iPod doesn't delete the entries from the database, just doesn't show them. When I tried to implement SQL insertions by hand (i. e., without the checksum), the app (or MusicLibrary.framework???) removed the tracks. This is needed to know how the ipod database should be checksummed, and whether sqlite files should be written or not. I think this is the part that is missing in your case. Then, for iOS devices, a series of commands needs to be run on the sqlite databases as a postprocessing step (otherwise you get a long "updating database" screen on the device), and once again libgpod uses libimobiledevice to get these commands. I'm not sure either how to get them from the ipod directly. Last but not least, recent iOS devices are read-only as far as libgpod is concerned, that is everything that went out after the iPhone4/iTouch4/iPad Hope that helps, Christophe |

Hello again,
So I've figured out what's missing: libgpod is only able to add music to the
iPhone's iPod Library if it's compiled with libimobiledevice support.
Obiviously, it's impossible to port libimobiledevice and libusb to iPhone,
so I'm looking for some explanation on how could I get it to work. Which is
the essential part of libimobiledevice which causes the iPod.app to properly
read and reload the library? I'd like to implement this by hand in my iPhone
app.
Regards, Árpád

I notice none of the updates for gtkpod are being released for Long Term Service versions of Ubuntu (latest one is 10.04). Will they be, or do they all require features available only to later versions? |

Dear gtkpod developers,
I'm writing an iPhone application which tries to implement the following
functionality: as there's no official way among Apple's frameworks to add
songs/videos to the iPod library, I'm trying to implement this using
libgpod. I've already compiled libgpod for iPhone (along with libplist, but
obiviously without libusb and libimobiledevice) and now I'm trying to use
it. However, when I add a track to the library using my - at the moment,
command line - application, all previously added tracks are gone from the
library, but only 'partially': the iPod app on the device can't see them,
but Gtkpod does. When I sync my iPhone with Gtkpod, everything goes well and
I can properly add tracks to my iPhone's library using Gtkpod (one single
warning is generated during mounting my iPhone: 'Extended info will not be
used'). Thus I'm assuming that I'm doing something wrong. I've tried to
extract a working example from gtkpod's source (the latest stable release
was which I downloaded), but I got confused... I kindly ask you whether you
could provide me a very simple, very basic but tutorial-like introduction to
the use of libgpod (the API reference didn't help much). FYI, I'm using
Ubuntu 11.04 on my PC and I have an (obiviously jailbroken) iPhone 3G with
the 4.2.1 firmware.
The code which I've written so far:
#include <libgpod/itdb.h>
#include <stdio.h>
int main () {
Itdb_iTunesDB *db = itdb_parse ("/var/mobile/Media", NULL);
// printf ("Db: %p\n", db);
Itdb_Track *track = itdb_track_new ();
track->transferred = 0;
track->year = 2011;
track->title = "Test2";
track->artist = "H2CO3";
track->album = "Carbon8";
track->genre = "Punk";
track->filetype = g_strdup ("MP3-file");
itdb_track_add (db, track, -1);
Itdb_Playlist *mpl = itdb_playlist_new ("New iPod", 0);
itdb_playlist_set_mpl (mpl);
Itdb_Playlist *podcasts = itdb_playlist_new ("Podcasts", 0);
itdb_playlist_set_podcasts (podcasts);
itdb_playlist_add (db, mpl, -1);
itdb_playlist_add (db, podcasts, -1);
itdb_playlist_add_track (mpl, track, -1);
itdb_playlist_add_track (podcasts, track, -1);
GError *err;
gboolean ret = itdb_cp_track_to_ipod (track,
"/var/mobile/song.mp3", &err);
if (!ret) {
printf ("Error: %s\n", err->message);
}
itdb_write (db, NULL);
return 0;
}
What have I done wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Árpád Goretity
