On the redirect issue: it seems I was misled by the prima facie URL, 
http://www.gnuplot.info/download.html

Nonetheless, I think that this page is an unnecessary hostage to 
fortune (do you really want to have to remember to update it after 
every release?), and might better redirect to 
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnuplot/files/
