Hi again, I was looking for a way to plot a horizontal histogram, i.e. a histogram with horizontal bars at the y-axis. The solutions I found so far: http://gnuplot-tricks.blogspot.ch/2009/10/turning-of-histogram.html This describes creating "normal" histogram and rotate the plot afterwards. Since I would like to use such a horizontal histogram together with other plots in a multiplot environment I guess that this solution might become pretty complicated. or http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11266452/horizontal-histogram-in-gnuplot Using the plotting style "boxxyerrorbars" as a workaround. You don't happen to have any similarly clever tricks that would work on
Windows, do you? (Gnuplot on windows does not support capturing system(),
``, etc.)
I've seen requests before for an option to disable gnuplot warnings (not
errors, necessarily, as recovery could be tricky). The noise can be
excessive when running in batch mode to create a large number of plots,
where empty data files or single-value ranges (for example) are not
worrisome.

Hi all, I tried to skip one or several plots in a multiplot. For example, in a 3x3 multiplot I would like to skip arbitrarily e.g. 4 of the 9 plots. Nevertheless, I would like to keep the 3x3 grid. multiplot layout 3,3 do not plot File00 plot File01 do not plot File02 plot File10 plot File11 plot File12 do not plot File20 plot File21 do not plot File22 Instead of an empty plot with axes etc. I would like to have empty space and nothing plotted at this position. In this example, defining a 5x1 multiplot and arranging the individual plots with appropriate offsets and sizes seems to be a pretty painful workaround. Any better ideas? Thanks, Theo. |

hi,
just in case you simply want to check that you have a filesize > 0
test -s FILE would do the trick.
An other funny trick is to use stat.
stat -c "%s" FILE
It read the file system information instead of scanning the whole file.

The situation is as follows: I have many plots to draw from many computer-generated data files. The script file is itself generated. Now, some data files are ill formed or non-existent, due to some experimental error (say, the program that generates the data crashes). But I would like to have the plots for all the other datafiles. I could manually edit the generated script file and remove the "bad" plot commands, but this will be tedious (I have many of these). Thanks for any advice on the best way to handle this. |

Hi, I have been trying to plot frequency-like plot for my data but failed with both smooth kdensity/frequency approaches. The input data are in the range of 0-15000, each value can be present multiple times. I tried to use the traditional trick for histogram plotting: bw=10 set boxwidth bw bin(x, width) = width*floor(x/width) + bw/2.0 plot [0:15000]"data" u (bin(\$1, bw)):(1.0) smooth freq w boxes The problem is that instead of boxes I need just top line connecting the middle point of each histogram bin. Of course, just using "with lines" in the above won't work - in case some bin is empty, the line does not go to zero but connects to first nonempty bin, which gives wrong result. Any idea how to workaround this? I tried to use smooth kdensity, which would give me similar enough representation but clearly bandwidths like 1,5,10 are too small for ranges around 10^5 and the output graph is just garbage. I guess that's because I got under sampling frequency used by some interpolation functions behind the scenes. Any way how could I increase that sampling value? Thanks for any hints, Pavel |

I wanted to bring everyone up to the most current code I am working with and what's left for me to figure out. I have only one remaining issue: My data file does not have a first line as x axis tics. Our raw data file will /normally / look like: 1.3e8, -95, -110, -105.... 1.4ee8, -97- -103, -102... ... with there being 601 columns of Z data (time) by 8192 rows of frequencies. This is a page allocation chain in sybase.
I tried to plot it with GnuPlot like:
gnuplot> plot "/Volumes/Data/PROJECTS/Fragmentation/2013-4-5/dem/c_textword.txt" using 3 with dots
and got this:

P.S. I am able to plot smaller files of similar nature , the next in like is a 5.9 MB file and gnu plot did it. But looks to me it is choking on the 39.2MB one.

Hi everyone I have been trying to make a combination of a stacked and a clustered histogram. The end result should look something like this: <http://gnuplot.10905.n7.nabble.com/file/n17285/eimIntegrated.jpeg> But the difference being that the bars should be grouped together in pairs, preferably over the same point on the x axis. The point of this graph is to compare estimates versus actual values. (E <--> A) The x-axis representing time. I have tried searching for something that could achieve this but I have found no answer so far, all help is much appreciated. If something is unclear about what I am asking please tell me and I will try to make it clearer. So in order to plot it, you need to do a little pre-processing. I tried that and end up getting no data to show up in the plot (and it
appears to be 2d)
gnuplot> set view map
gnuplot> set datafile separator ","
gnuplot> unset ytics
gnuplot> set xrange[1:600]
gnuplot> set yrange[*:*]
gnuplot> set cbrange [-200:0]
gnuplot> splot 'wf.csv' matrix with image
GNUPLOT (plot_image): Image grid must be at least 2 x 2.
And a flat 2d image was shown with no data plotted
tried again with:
gnuplot> set yrange[1:8192]
gnuplot> splot 'wf.csv' matrix with image
warning: No usable data in this plot to auto-scale axis range
z axis range undefined or overflow

I think I might be missing a range, but not sure where to put it, here is
what I get now:
gnuplot> splot for [sec=1:600] 'wf.csv' using 1:(sec):(column(sec+1)) with
impulse lc palette
warning: No usable data in this plot to auto-scale axis range
repeats (I'm guessing 8192 times)
All points x value undefined
My x range should be from 135000000 to 160000000
My y range should be from 1 to 600
My z range should be around -120 to -60

The first column is a frequency label, the first row is shown below but doesn't actually exist in the data file, neither do the spaces, they are shown just for ease of reading. Frequency, Sec1, Sec2, Sec3...Sec600 1e8, -95, -90, -92 1.1e8, -100, -101, -103 ... The data represents 600 seconds of fft data. I would like the plot to look something like the attached image. The x axis should be the columns of data (time), the y axis should be each row (frequency). The z axis is intensity and I'm hoping can be displayed both in height as well as color.
