When I try to reproduce this problem I get an error because
there is a missing quote to terminate "%g". If I add the
quote, then it works with no error. But I had to invent
functions and constants fro ampl Lor_D W and so on.
Can you either provide the full script or reduce the problem
to a stand-alone command?

I don't begin to understand all that but see %u and %w in the strftime
man page. You can get an integer 1-7 or 0-6.

is there a way to plot as function of the weekday or as function of weekday+daytime?
I can plot as function of day and as function of daytime, but haven't yet found a way for weekday or weekday+daytime.
Probably, I have to define a function to convert weekday into a number from 0 to 6 (or 1 to 7) and add the daytime as a fraction? Or maybe I overlooked a simple, obvious way?
In the below example I get "warning: Bad time format in string". Could this be a conflict with locale/language settings?

Thank you. dx is not quite what I was looking for. I wish do do something like: plot "file" binary array=18000x4500 flipy format='%int16 using (($1/50.0)-180):(($2/50.0)-90):3 ........... But I can only do that if I am reading an ascii matrix, but not with a binary. It is just that making the ascii files takes time and space, but the real issue is how long gnuplot spends reading and plotting a large ascii file. The binary is much faster. "fit.gnu", line 97: Function evaluation yields NaN ("not a number")
during a fit. It may by due to a guessed values out of range
setting FIT_LIMIT does not help.

a (strange) workaround might be the following...
Assuming your original data has the following structure:
x y z dx dy dz
you can create a dataset which contains the x,y,z errorbars as data each separated by at least 2 empty lines.
When you plot this dataset, lines will not be connected and will look like x,y,z errorbars.
Maybe this is somehow helpful.

Many possible options. The first three that come to mind are
(1) You can now set line colors to anything you like.
I don't remember what they were for the eps terminal in version 4.0 but for
the purpose of illustrating, let's say it was red, blue, green, magenta.
You can redefine the first four line colors to this sequence by saying
set linetype 1 linecolor "red"
set linetype 2 linecolor "blue"
set linetype 3 linecolor "green"
set linetype 4 linecolor "magenta"
This will affect all terminals, not just the eps terminal
(2) That red/blue/green/magenta sequence is the "classic" one, so you
should get the same result by saying
set colors classic
in gnuplot version 5
(3) The definitions you show above are read from the file prologue.ps
You could edit this file in place (will affect all future use of the
gnuplot postscript terminals) or you could make a copy in a new directory
and edit the copy. You can then use the gnuplot command
set psdir <new-directory-name>
so the the postscript terminals will use the edited copy rather than the
system-wide copy. This will affect only the current gnuplot session, or
until you say "unset psdir".

I came a bit further by looking at the generated eps files.
I found the bellow default colors (this whole block is not present with
the old generated eps with gnuplot 4.0 patchlevel 0) and if I change the
values in the eps file the lines color will change. So I am looking for
the behaviour of gnuplot 4.0 patchlevel 0 (this was the old working
version).
Is there a way to not have the default line colors present, or otherwise
what is the way to set the default line colors to other values, because
altering them may be a workaround.

Since my program which generates the gnuplot code is written in Python, I finally can also use Python to get a screenshot of the gnuplot wxt terminal. It assumes that the window frame around the plot stays always the same, in my case (l,t,r,b)margins = (8,63,8,31) pixels. Unfortunately, one flaw is that I had to insert a waiting time because the gnuplot window is not coming to front immediately. Maybe somebody has a solution for this? See: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/51879113 With this as a base, I can implement something where I can give a dimension in mm or cm and get the screenshot on the clipboard scaled accordingly when copied into the final application (Word, PPT, LibreOffice, etc.). Maybe this is also useful to somebody else... |

Your attachments to the original query did not make it through to
anywhere I could see them, so I do not know what colors you are talking about.
The new color scheme was not made a default until version 5, so whatever
you are seeing in version 4.6 must be something else.
Version 4.6 does however support the mechanism for setting linecolors
that was eventually used in version 5 to change the default.
It is possible that your initialization file is using this mechanism
to change colors on entry. If that is what is happening you can either
edit the initialization file or bypass it using the "-d" flag.
gnuplot -d
Otherwise, more information needed.
Is this affecting all terminal types or only a particular terminal?
Is there some reason you would upgrade from version 4.0 only as far
as 4.6 rather than 5.2 (current)?

Thank you for the link, I also came across this page. Well, this is for MSOffice 2016. In MSOffice <=2013 I haven't found such a setting. In MSOffice2013 there is a similar DPI setting but for *exporting* pictures not for *importing* pictures. Too bad... |
