Hello Thomas,
thanks for your answer. However, i think compiling my own special
version of gnuplot doesn't go well with our goals ;) 
I'll try to work out some other way, in the worst case having to convert
to text files.
Is there any other way to supply gnuplot with the date/time information?

[Gnuplot-info] Help with xyerrorbars

Dear all,

I am trying to plot a set of data from an experiment with xy errorbars.
However, whenever I try to do this and export the file to jpeg or png, I can
see the vertical and horizontal error bars on the first two data points
only. I have tried making the values larger and smaller to make sure that
it's not just the scale that's making them impossible to see.

I used the load command in gnuplot to load the following .txt file

set terminal jpeg
set output "graph.jpeg"
set bars 0
set points 1
set multiplot title "The Current-Voltage Characteristics of the DSSCs"
layout 2,1
set grid
set title "pH 1.0"
plot "pH1.txt" using 1:3 w linespoints, "pH1.txt" using 1:3:7:6 w
xyerrorbars
unset title
set title "pH 3.0"
plot "pH3.txt" using 1:3 w linespoints, "pH3.txt" using 1:3:7:6 w
xyerrorbars
unset title
unset multiplot


columns 7 and 6 include the delta x and delta y for my values for x and y.

(I am using Windows Vista.)

If anyone can offer any help at all I would be extremely grateful.

maybe you should post the commands you used to plot
the data.
normally, two empty lines in between cause the plot to
be interrupted.

Plotting polygons looks fairly simple and straightforward, but only if I arbitrarily insert numbers I need. I am wondering if I can make a custom plot where the x axis is symmetrically bound (0, 20), left and right of 0, e.g. (+20----+10-----0----+10----+20), and the y axis has fixed values for specific ions.  Is there a way to map a text label for the ions to a specific numerical value, and have no intervening numerical values?

I am looking at http://gnuplot.sourceforge.net/demo_4.2/surface1.html, specifically the 'fence plot'.  I'd like to apply that to some chlorophyll traces.

I've been beating my head and scouring the net to see how I could take something like that and turn it into a 2d image but not lose the data.  I've gone through many hands on iterations, and nothing turns out quite right.

In the case of that example, I would want to drag the image down such that the X and Y axes would appear normally as a 2d chart, but the -1 to 1 Z axis data would be color-coded by a smooth gradient that I might see had I splot-ted w/ a palette.

In other words, I'd end up w/ 10 vertical lines on a 2d chart, but these vertical lines would each have multiple colors within each one to represent the Z value.  Each line would be like a variably colored gummyworm.

You left out the most important one: the "set terminal postcript" line. 
  The information you're lacking is in the documentation for that 
command.See "help postscript" and pay special attention to the "solid"

In the output I am getting a Solid RED line and Dashed Green line but I want the Solid Green line. 
I want to change this Dashed Green line into Solid Green line.

I think its trivial but I am not getting right answer :(

an 'unknown' terminal is invisible...
you should 'set terminal' to something reasonable.

I can plot the contents of the file fine with

however, i would like to have the tics on the x-axis as readable

if you used a package manager then there should be no missing packages.

when gnuplot starts there a several messages, could you post them here?
the last message tells which terminal is used, which one is it?

[Gnuplot-info] 2 file 3D splot with different palettes or points possible?

Hi,

I want to combine the contents of 2 files in 1 3-d plot.

The following command does almost what I want:

splot './data/file1.txt' using 2:3:4:1 , \
'./data/file2.txt' using 2:3:4:1

But this will create a plot where each file differs just in the
dot-marker ( '+' for the first file, 'x' for the second file). This
gives a poor plot, given the number of dots.

Is it possible to change the point to a singe dot and use a different
palette for each file? If so, what should be the exact syntax as all my
attempts to change the global palette an/or point type failed miserably.
