[Gnuplot-info] transparent fill style with mp driver possible?

Hi,

I'm using mp driver to produce plots.  But with fillstyle
transparent, the output processed by metapost does not show
transparent colors.  I believe metapost should be able to
support transparent colors[1], so changing some color
definition in the output mp file should make the transparent
work.  Perhaps a patch to the mp driver can make it support
transparent colors automatically.  But the output from
gnuplot mp driver seems too complicated to me.  Can someone
help me with this?

convert the image into a format readable by gnuplot, and then
plot the image plus the functions you want to draw over it.

[Gnuplot-info] something like plot filename using VarOne:($VarTwo*1.1) possible?

Hi all,
i have to plot a lot of datafiles in which the position of the columns
could change. A change of the datafiles is not possible. So VarOne
could be e.g on Pos 1 in one file, then on Pos. 17. So i wrote a
script that writes the Variable Positions in a file like
VarOne=17
VarTwo=12
and load the file at the beginnning. That works fine, but now i have
to change some values by a factor. Something like

plot filename using 1:($2*1.1)

of course works. But it does not work with the User Variables, e.g.

plot filename using VarOne:($VarTwo*1.1)

Does anyone knows a solution?

[Gnuplot-info] 2D cross-section of 3D plot - possible?

Hello,

I'm currently working on some fluid modelling and get a bunch of 4D
data - mostly velocity field in cartesian coordinates.

I'm wondering if it is possible to make a 3D plot of this data by
limiting the range of 4th data column?
For example to plot v(x,z), but only for a certain value of y.

A simpler but essentially the same problem is to make a 2D plot from
3D data - eg. to plot v(z) for a specified value of y.

I know I can make a 3D plot with a range limit for one axis, but it's
still a 3D plot which contains only 2D data, so it's not what I want.

Anyone can help?

Unfortunately, my x11 dashed terminal does not seem to have dashed lines
(I am using version 4.4 patchlevel 0).
I attached a screenshot of the test command's result.
What else could be wrong? Or: which Gnuplot version has a working x11
dashed terminal? Any ideas?

Hello,

I am plotting multiple lines.
The color of the lines is based on a palette. This is working fine.
In addition, I would like to set the line style to be dashed or solid.
In the past, I managed to plot dashed lines using postscript terminals
(with different linetype) and without a palette.
Now I need to have the dashed lines on the screen and the color of the
lines should come from the palette.

So this is what I do:
---
set term x11 dashed
set palette rgbformulae 22,13,-31
set cbrange [ 0 : 100 ] noreverse nowriteback
plot "./pressure_10.txt" w l lt palette cb 10, "./pressure_20.txt" w l
lt palette cb 20
---

Is it opossible to plot some of the lines dashed? How?
Currently I'm using Gnuplot 4.4.0.

let us say you have many files in each one of them data   : x    y 


try to put all the data in one file and separate them with an empty line 
.each block corresponding to a given time .


you will get some thing like this :

   0.7      1.3

   0.5      1.9
   0.6      1.8
   0.7      1.3




notice that the empty lines are important (means that we define blocks.each
one for a given value of t )

1) call that file for example  :  output.dat
2) create another  file and call it for example:   plot.gnu

3) in this file (plot.gnu) write :

n=10  # n present here the number of blocks in your file 
plot  "output.dat" using 1:2 every :::i::i
i=i+1
if i<n reread 



4)
 in command box write :

i=0    #initializing the value of i 
load "plot.gnu"

For windows binary persist option works a little bit different way from that in unixy case. (I have
tested in the cygwin gnuplot+X11)

For unixy case
gnuplot -persist -e "plot sin(x)"

The gnuplot finished persisting the plot. (However, no key and mouse operations on plot window are
active because the gnuplot interactive session is closed.)

For windows case
gnuplot -persist -e "plot sin(x)"

The gnuplot does not finished with the prompt 'gnuplot>'.

To my knowledge, at this moment, it is not possible to realize what you want to do.

around volcanic ash from Eyjafjöll.
The soft of one of our probe can not display cumulative data but for our
security we have to see class of particle cumulate on 10'.
So I would like to parse file of its probe at real time and pipe data to
gnuplot.

This works from files (very well and simplest !  thanks for this very
powerfull soft :-) ) :

[Gnuplot-info] Gnuplot data file for contour plot

Hi,

I am trying to make a contour plot.  I have a 3 column matrix for the x, y, and
z values.  The very first line in this matrix, however, says, 

Format: Log(10,s22th13) deltacp chi^2

The rest is a normal matrix, with the numerical values.
I am not sure what this line is supposed to do.  This data file was generated
using some sample code which I am trying to understand.  Is this line formatting
the data within the file itself?  The problem is, that when I try to make this
contour plot with a .gnuplot file I made, I get the error message:

warning: Axis range undefined due to improper data values.  NaN? Inf?

All points z value undefined.

I am not sure why I am getting this result.  It sounds like something is wrong
with the data file and I do not know what.

So I have these two questions:
1) What does the Format line mean?
2) Why do I have this error message?

If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

It continues like this.  The y column or "deltacp" always runs from 0 to 200 in
steps of 4 for a single value of x.

please, is it possible to use gnuplot to plot into a datafile? I'd like
the 'plot' command not to draw graphics but give me back coordinates
of the data points as it would draw them, respecting the range and
using definitions.

I have a set of scripts which produce very nice gnuplot graphs
from my complicated set of raw data. Recalculate them, determine
the correct ranges etc. The problem for me is how to get back the
calculated data, not just the pictures :)

I'm looking for something like
    set term csv
    set output "graph_data.csv"
    plot [] [] .... using (2.126*($2), $175)... , ...., ...,

Which would give me a datafile, one column per one plot line.

Your help would be highly appreciated!

this warning you get because you have strings in your data:

0 23 "slice 1"
0 22 "volume 12"

first, all data is read in as matrices (and so you get the warnings),
then the data block specified by 'index' is selected and plotted.

to test this, just replace the strings by numbers: there will be no
warnings anymore.
