Hi, When I plot a file like "output.plot" which has two columns of data points like: 1.1 2.6 2.3 4.5 6.7 5.4 ... using the code plot "output.plot", I always get an extra point on the right side of the output plot screen. I get the same problem using both gp426win32 and gp440rc1_win. I am running Windows Vista 64-bit. Thanks, David |

Ries will carry on the propaganda, demagogues and quacks will become less certain of their short-cut remedies, and _everybody will be made to think_. The evolution of this newly awakened national interest in clean milk follows the seven stages and illustrates the seven health motives presented in Chapter II. I give the story of Robert M. Hartley because he began and prosecuted his pure-milk crusade in a way that can be duplicated in any country town or small city. Robert M. Hartley was a strong-bodied, strong-minded, country-bred man, who started church work in New York City almost as soon as he arrived. He distributed religious tracts among the alleys and hovels that characterized lower New York in 1825. Meeting drunken men and women one after another, he first wondered whether they were helped by tracts, and then decided that the mind befogged with alcohol was unfit to receive the gospel message. Then for fifteen years he threw himself into a total-abstinence crusade, distributing thousands of pamphlets, calling in one year at over four thousand homes to teach the industrial and moral reasons for total abstinence. Finally, he began to wonder whether back of alcoholism there was not still a dark closet that must be explored before men could receive the message of religion and self-control. So in 1843 he organized the New York Association for Improving the Condition of the Poor, which ever since has remembered how Hartley found alcoholism back of irreligion, and how back of alcoholism and poverty and ignorant indifference he found indecent housing, unsanitary streets, unwholesome working conditions, and impure food. Dear all, I am puzzled by a strange behaviour when trying to set the line styles and colors in the contour-plots. I'll try to describe it through a reproducible example. I am using gnuplot 4.2 patchlevel 6. *** DESCRIPTION AND REPRODUCIBLE EXAMPLE *** - SURFACE PLOT and CONTOUR PLOT set style line 2 lc rgb "black" lw 2 lt 1 set style line 3 lc rgb "orange" lw 2 lt 4 set style increment user set iso 30 set hidden set contour both f(x,y) = exp(-(x**2 + y**2))*cos(x/4)*sin(y)*cos(2*(x**2+y**2)) splot [-2:2][-2:2] f(x,y) set terminal postscript color enhanced set output "case_3D.ps" replot What do we get here? - the 3D plot is fine (red and solid line, I did not touch it infact) - the first color contour is solid, width = 2, but is RED, not BLACK (despite having indicated lc rgb "black") - the second color contour is dotted, width = 2, but is PINK, not ORANGE - the key (legend) is surprisingly right, showing a black solid and an orange dotted sample lines which do not exist in the contour plot proper. I am confused here: it seems that if I specify the line style, that determines also the color, overriding my specifications. *** GNUPLOT VERSION *** gnuplot> show version long G N U P L O T Version 4.2 patchlevel 6 last modified Sep 2009 System: Linux 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5 Compile options: -READLINE +LIBREADLINE +HISTORY +BACKWARDS_COMPATIBILITY +BINARY_DATA -LIBGD -NOCWDRC +X11 +X11_POLYGON +MULTIBYTE +USE_MOUSE +HIDDEN3D_QUADTREE +DATASTRINGS +HISTOGRAMS +OBJECTS +STRINGVARS +MACROS +IMAGE DRIVER_DIR = "/usr/local/libexec/gnuplot/4.2" GNUPLOT_PS_DIR = "/usr/local/share/gnuplot/4.2/PostScript" HELPFILE = "/usr/local/share/gnuplot/4.2/gnuplot.gih" *** *** Thank you for your help. I am running the version 4.4 release candidate of gnuplot in opensolaris 2009.06 with a wxt terminal type. Dear all, I have problem with plotting 3D color figure. I'm thinking this is caused by newer OS, Snow Leopard... The command I used: > set term x11 > set pm3d > set log cb > sp "data.txt" u 1:2:3 w pm Result: - Once the window is opened and immediately closed. - I can plot without "set log cb". - If I type "replot" immediately after the window closed, the new window opened but the colorbar is filled by black. - changing cbrange does not help. - I can plot figures such as "x**2+y**2" from the keyboard with the same command. - I can plot from the data file correctly with Mac OS X 10.5.x Versions: Mac OS X 10.6.2 gnuplot Version 4.2 patchlevel 5 (installed through MacPorts) I can share the data file for the solution. -MasaYan |

I have confirmed. Perhaps this is intrinsic to combination of wgnuplot + wxt term. For gnuplot + wxt, the 'gnuplot>' prompt remains at cmd console. In the case wgnuplot, wgnuplot command console does not appear by 'wgnuplot test.gp -' and 'wgnuplot --persist test.gp' state. Stop of wxt terminal window perhaps cannot stop wgnuplot itself. If you use wgnuplot -noend test.gp wgnuplot /noend test.gp wgnuplot -persist test.gp the command windows is open, its not a problem. I found that difference between --persist and -persist for windows in reading winmain.c and plot.c. In winmain.c, I found the code ***** if (!stricmp(_argv[i],"-noend") || !stricmp(_argv[i],"/noend") || !stricmp(_argv[i],"-persist")) noend = TRUE; if (noend) ShowWindow(textwin.hWndParent, textwin.nCmdShow); ***** For wgnuplot + wxt terminal, is 'ShowWindow(textwin.hWndParent, textwin.nCmdShow);' inevitably used to avoid the problem ? However, there perhaps exist a demand that command window does not ppear. For compromising points, command window is open in the minimized state (I cannot find good translation from Japanese to English). Is it possible ? This is what I can comment at this time. In plotting some data I notice that this works as expected gnuplot> set pm3d at b interpolate 1,1 gnuplot> splot sqrt(x**2+y**2) but this does not gnuplot> set pm3d at b interpolate 2,2 gnuplot> splot sqrt(x**2+y**2) The problem seems to be interpolate having an argument greater than 1. In this case, the color map appears only at the surface, regardless of whether "at s" is specified. The color map does not appear at the bottom (or at the top, if t is specified). Also, using "splot xxxx with pm3d at bs" gives the same result, with the plot at the bottom missing. Using 'set pm3d map' works as expected. Of course, I realize one shouldn't use interpolate with a function, I am just providing this as an example. I'd like to be able to plot both the colormap on the bottom, and the colorized surface with interpolated colors working off numerical data from a file. The same exact behavior occurs with numerical data rather than a function. I have tested this on Ubuntu 9.04 with gnuplot 4.2 patchlevel 4 and Windows with gnuplot 4.2 patchlevel 6. That's not what it does, so it would be wrong to put that in the manual. Gnuplot accepts raw binary image data. That's not what it does, so it would be wrong to put that in the manual. Gnuplot accepts raw binary image data. If that's not what your input is, it's up to you to find out how your image file can be transformed into such a formats. |

I'm sorry to learn that I've lied to gnuplot! This was never my intention. Cutting off the header works indeed. Part of the problem, to my opinion, is that I (any probably more users) don't know the differences between all these bitmap/pixmap types and the gnuplot manual is not very descriptive about how to tailor a given bitmap/pixmap so it gets accepted by gnuplot. It's probably not the role of gnuplot to describe file formats, but if it doesn't know what to do with the headers, where other programs do, then my conclusion (as a non-expert) is that gnuplot doesn't read (properly) PNM, PPM or whatever format. So if gnuplot only accept images without the first (4) header lines, then I think it's a good thing to say/hint that in the manual. Gnuplot is a very versatile and useful plotting program and I appreciate all the work done by all the authors! and thank you for your fast response!
