In the cargo loading screen of a colony, when a wagon train is being loaded it says "Cargo on ship wagon train" (see attached screenshot). Since wagon train isn't a ship... :)

I think we can safely omit the word "ship" generally. "Cargo on Merchantman", "Cargo on Privateer", "Cargo on Frigate" sound fine to me.
