This sounds pretty good to me as a start point! A suggestion, though - we could have *all* of the categories for open source tools (remember, open source doesn't have to be "free of charge" or "non-commercial") which may bring some lesser-known ones out of the woodwork. Some elements not visible or not working with FF and AdBlock Plus ----------------------------------------------------------------- Key: WEB-41 URL: http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/WEB-41 Project: Web site Issue Type: Improvement Reporter: kdv Assignee: Pavel Cisar Priority: Blocker AdBlock Plugin successfuly cuts ad picture http://www.firebirdtest.com/banners/9846.jpg and the Welcome/Get Started ... block is not working. Turning adblock off enables these features, but if Adblock does this bad things to that design, so other "banner-cutters" will do the same. So, I predict that people with these software or plugins will complain "site is not working". -- This message is automatically generated by JIRA. - If you think it was sent incorrectly contact one of the administrators: http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/secure/Administrators.jspa - For more information on JIRA, see: http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira |

Just an initial idea, that can be discussed and enhanced: 1) Open Source tools should be listed for free 2) Free (but not open source) should be listed also for free, but separated from Open Source tools. 3) Commercial would be listed without fee, if author is regular Sponsor or FF member (voting member minimum), otherwise, fee is required. If no one meets the requirements, a small note can be included in the page, like: "You can Google for a list of commercial third party tools" Page structure could be Open Source tools ... Commercial tools (meeting the above requirements) ... Free tools ... We don't have enough Open Source tools for all "tools categories" so, including free (but not open source) tools will give visitor more options. It would be bad if visitor comes to page to search for some tool (ie: administration tool, replicator, etc), and find none available. As we know, Firebird doesnt include any of these tools in the installer, so we need to make it easy for the new user to find the third party options. []s Carlos H. I already created a tracker item for the following, but maybe it's worth discussing here: It seems to me that the website is missing the page with links to GUI administration tools. Anyone interested in trying out Firebird would come to the website expecting to get a functioning database server and graphical administration tool. Hello All, It's a wake up email. We need all resources at the current stage of new web-site development. We have beta version now - www.firebirdtest.com, and it requires testing efforts. The most important thing now is proofreading, so we need English native speakers first. To report any problem, please create issues at Tracker.firebirdsql.org in the Web site section http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/WEB (issues with wrong section will be not considered). Please feel free to ask any questions. Regards, Alexey Kovyazin |

Hello, I have a problem. I loaded firebird sql client software to my machine and when I try to use FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.dll on my website. I receive following problem. Could not load file or assembly 'FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below. Assembly Load Trace: The following information can be helpful to determine why the assembly 'FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient' could not be loaded. WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF. To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1. Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging. To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog]. Seems OK in the sense that it does prompt to save or start the client. From past experiences, though, it should be offering a sign-up dialog for the meeting and telling you that it hasn't started yet. That's not happening. Helen |

I've fixed the error, but I can't check if the links are 100% OK now. If I click on them, I land on a page telling me that the MS Office Live Meeting client is probably not installed on my system. Maybe someone with that client installed can try the links. Cheers, Paul Vinkenoog |
