Sweet Nathan! I have always wanted to use etherape in full screen, I am applying the patch now..will let you know how it goes. I have compiled the program on RedHat Linux 8. The following do not work for me. Large buttons on the secondary menu. Open / Preferences / Quit commands on the File menu Start / Pause / Stop on the Capture menu About on the Help menu. And it crashes when I close the program, gives the following error. Application "etherape" (process 14262) has crashed due to a fatal error. (Segmentation fault) That's it. It's nice to see you haven't abandoned the project. I luv the program! Hello, I installed the latest deb. (0.9.0-1) and also compiled the source but still get the same behaviour. Suddenly, my etherape and children windows go blank and I have to restart the app. The app is still running (if I click where I think the buttons are, then things happen) but it is blank. I am getting an error when trying to make on Redhat 8.0. I downloaded etherape-0.8.2.tar.gz. I was able to run the configure script. But when I try to rum make I get the following errors. Hello. I installed Etherape from a RPM to my distro (Mandrake 9.0), but when I launch it I get the following error message: "Link Type Not Yet Supported". The program actually starts, and after the message it appears the graphic interface, but if I try to start the capture, I get the same error message again. The error appears in any mode I try (IP or TCP, the others are greyed out), and also when I launch the program. If you have any suggestion, all the help will be greatly appreciated. Etherape first tries his private services file (the standard location is /etc/etherape/services) and /etc/services only as a last resort. You need to add your names to etherape private file... |

Gnome EtherApe 0.8.2 Redhat 7.2 I have a protocol on our network that runs on a non-standard port. I'd like Etherape to recognize it though, rather than have it show up as "TCP-unknown". I've added a name and port mapping in /etc/services, but no dice. I tried going Preferences-->Names->TCP->add protocol, but clicking that button brings nothing up. I still see plenty of "TCP Unknown" packets, but can't figure out how to map them. Any pointers much appreciated. Thanks, -rob rfr...@sl... |

I would have liked to reply earlier, but I'm afraid I have and will have for several days family visitors at home and have not had the time. I'm afraid you are right, EtherApe hasn't been ported to Gnome 2 yet, and it's quite unlikely that it will compile out of the box. Having said that, it doesn't mean that I don't think it should be impossible to build, as long as you have a Gnome1 environment alongside. Although I have not tried it myself, I believe that both environments can be installed one besides the other without clashing. I know it would take a good bite on HD space, but it's a workaround, at least. Another workaround is using a cheap PC with a distribution that comes with EtherApe as a package. Debian, for instance. On the other hand, knowing that there users that would be very happy to have it ported to Gnome 2 gives me the motivation to put again some work on it. I'm not giving myself deadlines, though, remember that this is free software developed in spare time. ;-) Kind regards, Juan. Thanks for the help these lists have given me. I'm currently running it on my SUN Blade workstation. Solaris 9, 64bit, Gnome Beta 2.0.1. If I wanted to compile the application (it's called etherape see http://etherape.sourceforge.net/ ) then it will require gnomeConf.sh . Hmm. I didn't realise that you were trying to compile libglade-0.17. I
assumed that since you said you had gnome 2.0 that you would be talking
about libglade-2.0 (which is already installed on your system if you
have gnome2).
To compile the previous stable version, you need gtk+ 1.2 (which you
seem to have) and libxml-1.x (not 2.x). If you want gnome support in
the old libglade, you will need gnome-libs-1.x (and its dependencies).
For the gettext problem, you may need to adjust your path so that the
GNU gettext utilities (xgettext, etc) get found before the solaris versions.

I didn't realise that you were trying to compile libglade-0.17. I assumed that since you said you had gnome 2.0 that you would be talking about libglade-2.0 (which is already installed on your system if you have gnome2). To compile the previous stable version, you need gtk+ 1.2 (which you seem to have) and libxml-1.x (not 2.x). If you want gnome support in the old libglade, you will need gnome-libs-1.x (and its dependencies). For the gettext problem, you may need to adjust your path so that the GNU gettext utilities (xgettext, etc) get found before the solaris versions. Sir, i saw your product for network monitoring in the net.It is great .I'm doing a project intrusion detection system using genetic algorithm.I need to monitor the network from server for the outside network services and require informations like 1)Raw datas like name of network services coming to the server from outside internet ,number of packets for each service,and the time.
