I would have liked to reply earlier, but I'm afraid I have and will have for
several days family visitors at home and have not had the time.

I'm afraid you are right, EtherApe hasn't been ported to Gnome 2 yet, and
it's quite unlikely that it will compile out of the box. 

Having said that, it doesn't mean that I don't think it should be impossible
to build, as long as you have a Gnome1 environment alongside. Although I
have not tried it myself, I believe that both environments can be installed
one besides the other without clashing. I know it would take a good bite on
HD space, but it's a workaround, at least.

Another workaround is using a cheap PC with a distribution that comes with
EtherApe as a package. Debian, for instance.

On the other hand, knowing that there users that would be very happy to have
it ported to Gnome 2 gives me the motivation to put again some work on it.
I'm not giving myself deadlines, though, remember that this is free software
developed in spare time. ;-)
