These child apo registry keys are used at the uninstallation of Equalizer APO. It contains registry values for restoring audio device APO's (audio processing objects) to their former state. When starting the Configurator or Configuration Editor these keys are searched for. So adding a dummy key is alright but the question is why these keys aren't there in the first place. Usually this is because Equalizer APO hasn't got full access to the Windows registry.

As for the headphones not giving sound, that could be another matter. Or the same, as in Equalizer APO can't remove and add registry keys in HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices\Audio specifically the audio devices in render and capture subkeys.

So the above 2 issues suggests the same, Equalizer APO wasn't installed correctly which usually points to some anti-malware and/or firewall app preventing the proper installation or preventing Equalizer APO access to the Windows registry.

Any solution on this? I tried formatting my SSD drive and re-installed the Windows 10 Pro, Re-installed Equalizer APO, during install I see that error. I'm using a regular Windows 10 Installation media. I don't know what to do next. See attached files, thanks

      Unfortunately the developer hasn't responded.

You might try to install version 1.1.2 after uninstalling the current installed Equalizer APO. I don't think that the newest version 1.3 is doing any better than 1.2.1 you've tried to install.

Or perhaps one audio device isn't behaving as it should. Do you have any USB or Bluetooth audio devices connected and switched on? Sometimes such a device can't be read from the Windows registry causing the error popup and the empty audio device list in the Configurator.

    Hello Peter,

Thanks for the input. Here's my Audio Devices, see attached file. Yes I'll try 1.1.2. Does REVO un-installer does substantial damage to Equalizer APO registry settings? Anyway for now I'll try version 1.2.2..

I don't think that Revo uninstaller should be used in case of uninstalling Equalizer APO. The audio devices on which Equalizer APO was installed must be restored to the former state. This must be done by the uninstaller of Equalizer APO as Revo uninstaller can't do this. In other cases Revo is just fine.

We (I and others on this forum) still don't know why this happens. Somehow the Child APOs registry key or perhaps the key above EqualizerAPO can't be created during the installation process. The obvious thing to do is to give the installer all rights (right click -> run as administrator) to enable to do its job of making a backup of the audio devices in Child APOs. And to check if any antimalware/firewall app is preventing the key creation (writing to the Windows registry).

Unfortunately giving all rights and disabling (temporary!) antimalware apps sometimes isn't enough. So in the Windows registry editor, first check if the EqualizerAPO key was created in HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE . If not then create it. Then try to create the Child APOs subkey if it isn't there. Then start the installer. I'm guessing that the installer is able to create the key values (ConfigPath, etc.) as can be seen in the attached screenshot.
