I installed and the re-installed and I can no longer configure Equalizer APO. I get as far as the opening request to choose the Capture and Playback but my mic and headphones do not show.
I also get this message when I try to install Equalizer APO. I guess they are both saying the same thing. I have tried installing and uninstalling several times but with no success
Yes, they are the same thing (good thinking!). At installation of Equalizer APO the subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO\Child APOs can't be created. This key holds all possible audio devices. If the base key EqualizerAPO exists but the Child APOs isn't then it's a known issue (although not easy to resolve). Somehow the Configurator/Install program doesn't have enough rights to create the necessary Child APOs key.
Some solution found on this forum are:
1. Creating an empty Child APOs key and install Equalizer APO.
2. Change the rights of the base EqualizerAPO key (see this post) and run the Configurator or install Equalizer APO.
If the above doesn't work:
1. Uninstall Equalizer APO
2. If still exists remove the base EqualizerAPO key
3. Run the Equalizer APO installer with administrative rights (right click menu -> Run as administrator).

Sorry to hear that. I wish it would be easier. You could try a registry cleaner to remove all Equalizer APO keys left after an uninstallation. But I'm not sure if this helps as I don't know what causes this issue in the first place. I'm guessing during the uninstallation that the registry keys couldn't be removed. So at installing again things go wrong due to these left keys. But this is all based on an assumption.

After several hours working on the problem and scouring the internet, just in case somebody else has the same problem, the only option is to find an alternative software.
All I wanted to do was to "Boost" the recording level in Windows as it is pitifully on my laptop. Just need a consistent recording level and not have to reconfigure every session.
BTW, I cleaned the registry but no success - but worth a try. My last hope is that I can find a simple set of instructions on how to edit the registry to add the Child APO keys in the hope that will allow me to move on to trying the SFX route.

I didn't intend to spend most of today hunting for an equivalent to Equalizer but I have but all was not lost.
After making several installations and uninstalling them I happened to install 2 at the same time - Equalizer and Viper4Windows - both using APO. During the install, Viper needed to download various files from .Net2.0 and 3.0. Also my laptop needed to repair Visual C++ x64 files also. The Visual files I am guessing caused by the multiple installs and uninstalls.
Imagine my delight when I got 50% of the configurator and was about to re-install Equalizer again when the missing Capture devices showed up after 5 minutes - strange.
Why did this happen? My guess is that there were files deleted after the 1st uninstall that were not replace by Equalizer but were forced by Viper4Windows.
Now, just got to learn how to use Equalizer!

all returned.
Currently, I am setting up different scenarios but a could not find a
simple guide on saving configurations until I saw your Equalizer/Peace help
file.
I still think a simple guide could help many people as we are not all as
competent as we would like to be.

Although Peace is the most popular interface for Equalizer APO it isn't mentioned on this Equalizer APO website. And the wiki's aren't that great too. But there is at least the Troubleshooting one although not always helpful as many issues could occur (as you have notice) during the installation of Equalizer APO. But that's where I and others come in with help.
Your idea of a guide is good. I've a tutorial on Youtube called 'How to install Equalizer APO properly' which deals with the main issues. Unfortunately some issues can be resolved easy. And some I don't understand (precisely) the cause. Also the manual of Peace covers this subject. And I have some sticky notes on the Peace website that deals with some issues.
I wish it could be much easier. At least the developer could improve the wikis here. Also the Configurator should be much easier to use and understand. And the Configuration Editor must be improved too. Great software but too many userunfriendlyness imo.
