#211 Configurator and Editor won't launch after W11 update
Copy-pasted from my Feedback Hub feedback (link opens Feedback Hub).
After installing KB5012643 (and MAYBE another reboot following the update's initial reboot), Equalizer APO now cannot start up.
Both of its executables, Configurator and Configuration Editor, cannot launch.
The EQ feature itself also stopped working.
Nothing special happened prior for this to happen, apart from the update.
Maybe all APO programs might not be working anymore.
Some info I should have included…:
OS: Windows 11 21H2 build 22000.652
Equalizer APO version: 1.2.1
Audio Driver: Windows's built-in driver
I can't reproduce your problem. Same update installed, same build number (652). Equalizer APO is working perfectly - the Configurator, the Editor and the APO itself. I did have to reconfigure my audio devices but that's not unusual after a non-trivial Windows update.
Have you already tried the sequence of uninstallation -> rebooting -> installation -> rebooting?
Already tried it and tried it again just now, to no avail.
That's unfortunate.
I've seen this issue on this forum. I don't know if anyone has been able to resolve it but you could browse the forum. One thing is clear: A next update may get Equalizer APO going again. This happened on Windows 10 when it was in development. Btw. Microsoft is still tinkering away on Windows 11.
Anyway, you can try a few things. At least try out the troubleshooting options of the "Install as" dropdown box, especially "SFX/EFX". Do you know how to access the troubleshooting options of an audio device?
I've stated that both Configurator and Editor cannot launch, so I can't access those settings.
Sorry, you're right of course. My mistake. Obviously I stated the most common solution which doesn't apply in your case at all.
Although it may not be the problem you could try is to rule out your antivirus/firewall software. For instance, there was a small time period in which Windows Defender thought that Equalizer APO was malware, meaning its editor and Configurator. Probably due to the fact that both access the Windows Registry and even changing key values as necessary for Equalizer APO to work.
