The options of the "Install as" dropdown box depends on the options available in the audio driver software of the manufacturer. What kind of mic is it? A USB one or 3.5 inch jack?

I guess you have tried to follow the troubleshooting wiki. What's not in there (and should be) is that some apps need/want exclusive access to the mic. That's not unusual as an app wants to record something and at the same time preventing another app from recording. But it may bypass Equalizer APO thus pre amp in your case. Disabling this exclusive mode is done on the Advantage tab of your mic. To go to this on Windows 10:
Open Windows settings -> System -> Sound -> Input -> Select mic -> Device properties -> Extra properties (at the right) -> Advantage tab -> Exclusive mode checkboxes.

They must be unchecked to prevent exclusive access.

Another user has found that disabling the anti-virus, in his case Norton, the SFX/EFX option became available.

Also if the USB mic came with software then unchecking the "Use original APO" checkboxes might help.
