Preamp - 6dB,0dB,+6dB ?.

If you're like me, with a integrated Realtek HD audio sound-card that at maximum volume barely makes any sound at all, then this is your salvation and solution to your problems! Thanks to this little piece of software I am finally able to play my music loud, like I want it :) Installation is easy, just a couple of clicks, select which sound-card it should apply to and it's almost ready. the final step in cranking up the volume of your sound-card is to open the default settings file which is located at C:\Program Files\EqualizerAPO\config\settings.txt it says Preamp: -6 dB change this to Preamp: 8 dB delete the second line then save and exit, reboot your computer and now, enjoy your volume at the max!

Normally you should try to keep the frequency response of E-APO below 0 dB to avoid clipping. But in your case, E-APO would not be helpful then.

In theory, the audio output by an application can reach a maximum of 0 dB (1.0), so increasing this value further using E-APO would introduce clipping. You could try this out using Audacity by generating a sound file with amplitude 0dB (using the signal generator). Increasing the preamp while playing this file should not increase the heard volume as Windows' integrated limiter should be in action then. If the volume you hear still increases then there must be something in the audio driver or its own APOs that reduces the volume and you can use E-APO to workaround that by seeing how much you can increase the preamp while hearing a volume increase.

If I understand you correctly, you are also using equalization. If you do that, make sure that you do the preamp test with disabled EQ or you have to also take into consideration the effect of the EQ on the frequency of your generated signal.

Front right + 2 Subs with EQ made EQ.Target 71 dB.
1.1.1 APO to put the preamp to +6dB or +7dB and noticed the rise in volume and no distortion.
Now I have to 0dB.
I always equalized downward.
