I've been using equalizer apo for probably 3 years now and never had an issue when using it with voicemod, but I just recently downloaded a newer version of voicemod and now everything is messed up. When I went to redownload apo with the new voicemod virtual device as the capture device it tells me "check failed for one device" and my voicemod disconnects and reconnects itself while apo is trying to download it on LFX/GFx, SFX/MFX, etc..
I click troubleshoot and it says the same thing as well as my use original APO button being greyed out. I haven't found a single person with the same issue and would really appreciate any type of help.
A bit of explanation of the "Check failed ..." messages which is rather cryptic imo. On Windows any sound effect and enhancement is internally called an Audio Processing Object (APO). VoiceMod could be an APO or just a virtual device driver doing sound changes. If the "Use original APO" check boxes are greyed out then most likely VoiceMod isn't doing this by an APO. So greyed out is alright.
There are 3 APO techniques: LFX/GFX (Windows Vista, 7, 8), SFX/MFX or SFX/EFX (both Windows 10 and 11). Device Selector test them in sequence trying to find one that works. Unfortunately it happens that none of them work. But you need to try them manually to check this. Note that you need to click the Ok button when changing to another APO technique.
For what purpose do you use Equalizer APO? For some pre amplification (volume) of the mic?
my voicemod disconnects and reconnects itself
This could be because the audio stream of VoiceMod is temporary disconnecting as Device Selector is going from one APO to another. But I'm not sure of this.

I tried each one separately and nothing changed unfortunately, I use Equalizer APO just to make my mic sound better and more clear.
My voicemod is still disconnecting itself but I'm not sure if this is an issue anyways. But still nothing has changed since trying those, anything else you think might work?

As this is happening on the new version of VoiceMod it could be that this version uses the mic in WASAPI exclusive mode, meaning no other app can use the mic during VoiceMod. This sounds fine but it bypasses any Audio Processing object like Equalizer APO. This is a Windows thing of which I'm not sure why Microsoft has implemented it this way. Anyway, this exclusive mode can be disabled by unchecking some check boxes on the Sound panel of an audio device (see screenshot). It forces the audio device into using WASAPI shared mode.
After doing the above I'm afraid it's again trying all APO techniques which is annoying but necessary to try.
