I've been using the APO with my mic for a few months now, but overnight it stopped working. Initially noticed because it no longer applied noise filtering and volume boost. Changing formats in Windows settings became impossible (throws an error). Uninstalling APO results in normal behaviour, but then reinstalling it fails now:
That does happen. Either an audio driver update is installed or Microsoft is changing the audio system causing issues, for instance the current audio driver not working.
Another thing could be that another APO technique starts working, in this case SFX/MFX, which brings issues on its own. At least try the disabled exclusive use mode for the mic (see screenshot). WASAPI exclusive mode bypasses any APO (Audio Processing Object).
First error says "class not registered", others "the remote procedure call failed". The installer on auto mode tries going through all the modes, as shown above, all fail with that 2nd error.
It's also specifically the mic, headphones still work just fine.
And I'm not too sure if it was due to Windows, as there were no updates that night. In fact, I had some pending, which I installed and it didn't help nor make anything worse.

Actually, never mind, headphones also don't work properly. I'm using it with HeSuVi and it's not applying anything either. It just doesn't outright break, i.e. I can still change formats and it installs with no errors.
Edit: though, simple preamps and whatnot work... very odd...
Edit2: no, sorry, ignore this message I accidentally uninstalled APO for headphones. Mic is the only broken one.

Just found a solution:
1. (optional, just in case) Open DeviceSelector in your Equalizer APO folder and untick your installed devices
2. (optional, just in case) Fully uninstall Equalizer APO and reboot your PC
3. Reinstall Equalizer APO only for your other devices, e.g. headphones, NOT the microphone
4. Now open DeviceSelector again, this time tick "Troubleshooting" and select your microphone
5. Untick "Use original APO"
6. The installation should proceed as expected
7. (optional, Discord users only) set your audio subsystem to "Standard" in Discord settings
I'm using this setup with werman's Real-time Noise Suppression Plugin and a slight preamp boost.

About to try fully reinstalling audio drivers, but otherwise I'm out of ideas. Potentially a Windows update broke something?
Windows 11

Unfortunately disabling those didn't work.

Thanks for sharing your solution. Good job finding it 😃
