    HI,

I am using equaliser apo and REW to help produce a three way crossover and filtering for ,my speakers. ( I only have a pair of speakers )

This works great for stereo, but when I want to listen to a film, that has multichannel assignment, I find I need to send the center channel to the speakers in order to hear dialogue.

My question is: - how can I send a feed of the center channel to these speakers AND HAVE CONTROL OVER THE VOLUME OF THE CENTER CHANNEL??

WHen I try to send a feed to the speakers, although I can hear the center channel, I don't seem to have any control over the volume of the centre channel?

Any help would be appreciated :-)

    Keith

If I got it right, you have std 3-way stereo speaker setup there. If so, (I did not test this (I'm running Ubuntu ATM) but) have you tried something like this (not perfect way but ... something to start with):

      # "downmix" surround to stereo

      Channel: C
      Preamp: 0.0 dB

      Channel: SUB
      Preamp: 0.0 dB

      Channel: RR RL
      Preamp: 0.0 dB

      Channel: SR SL
      Preamp: 0.0 dB

      Channel: All
      Preamp: -12.0 dB
      Copy: R=R+0.5*C+0.5*SUB+RR+SR
      Copy: L=L+0.5*C+0.5*SUB+RL+SL

Save above preset as downmixSto2.txt and load it through EQAPO Editor. On Editor, set the preset 'ON' and then open its property tab by clicking the up-arrow button. You shoud see few knobs and connection dialogs there.

EDIT: As your setup is a 3-way crossover through EqualizerAPO, use above code before crossovering part of your config file. You can omit those un-needed speakers from script.

    R=R+0.5*C...

    Should it be 0.5 or 0.7071 (ie. 0.5*sqrt(2)) ?

Since audio volume is logarithmic would it take 0.5*sqrt(2) in each front channel for the center channel to be at the right volume level?

It seems to be linear. Besides, it's a matter of experimenting. There isn't a right volume level. It differs for each speaker setup due to distances between the speakers and the spot you're listening to music or watching movies.
