I'm not sure if this came up before, but I know that the function is basically experimental. Only some VSTs work. Also, you need to take into account, that turning the plugin on and off in the editor can lead to a "pop" sound and using some plugins can create audio glitches, so use this carefully, if at all.
In this case it looks like that the plugin isn't fully supported, although I'm not a developer. But I know it has limitations. There are many posts on this forum mentioning issues with VST.
If I remember correctly, Jonas, the developer mentioned that he may work on a better support for VST, but I don't have any other information about it.
So in fact, the "VST plugin support" as declared on the summary page is very limited in this state. It should be clearly said there.
By the way, I already suggested the function to be renamed.

It loads the 64 bit plugin, but says ''library does not contain needed finctions''
